* CoolButInefficient: This is a problem that plagues endgame Aeons' Overdrives, as for all the flashy theatrics they have, they still do only a single hit, ensuring they can never hit for more than 99,999 damage in one use, something that a party going for the {{Bonus Boss}}es can achieve with ''normal attacks''. The Magus Sisters are notable for this issue, as all three sisters' Overdrive gauges need to be charged up to cast Delta Attack...and they still only do one hit! This is corrected somewhat in the PAL and ''International'' rereleases onwards: the sisters' and Anima's Overdrives now do 6 and 20 hits, respectively.

* AwesomeButImpractical: Armor with Break HP Limit. It is hard to get or to customize, needs severe remodeling of sphere grid to be worth it, and most of enemy attacks (including [[BonusBoss Penance]]) can be reduced below {{Cap}} with five stacks of cheer and combination of armor abilities "Defense +20%" and "Auto-Protect"(which are way easier to get), can be predicted and thus blocked by an Aeon, or deal secondary Damage {{Cap}} worth of damage thus making BHPL irrelevant. You can also unlock [[AutoRevive Auto-Life]]. And then there are [[PercentDamageAttack Percent Damage Attacks]], which make healing problematic.

It ''can'' be useful on Auron with the Masamune, as its damage output [[CriticalStatusBuff increases the more he's missing HP]], and even then the increased power can be easily lost by healing him back to full.

** Or Sin; besides being an obvious name to give something that you believe is the embodiment of the population's... sins, Sin is also the name of the Babylonian moon god. Makes sense when you consider Sin's affinity for the ocean and its powers over gravity.
** A more subtle one: The Japanese way of saying Sin's name is "Shin", which can be translated as "Truth", as in the truth that's being concealed about it.

gravity. More subtly, the Japanese way of saying Sin's name pronunciation is "Shin", which can be translated as "Truth", as in the truth that's being concealed about it.it. Finally, there was an ancient Chinese aquatic dragon monster who created mirages called [[https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shen_(clam-monster)#Aquatic_dragon Shen]], which is pronounced in Japanese as "Shin".

** The re-releases have a bunch more [=AFFs=] that are essentially officially-sanctioned cheats. You can speed up movement (for traversing wide spaces much faster during backtracking), as well as substantially increasing or decreasing RandomEncounters for faster grinding or completely eliminating them altogether. You can also boost all characters to max level and gil.

* YouBastard: To get the sigil for Rikku's [[InfinityPlusOneSword Ultimate Weapon]], you have to hunt down and fight some Cactuars. Each one is introduced individually, with a name and personality. First, the cactuar stone tells you their names and where you can find them, e.g. Tomay -- Gone to fetch the water, be back soon. The eighth one even escapes to the airship, but rather than fight with you, it just leaps off! When you've killed them all, the stone reads it all again, but instead of "be back soon" after each one, it says "gone for good", and it's actually quite chilling. This is retconned in ''X-2'' in order to make Yuna hunt down the Cactuars all over again. It turns out they don't die; in fact, the Cactuar Mothers encourage a senseless beating now and again.
** This can also become retroactive FridgeHorror in the case you captured the Cactuar guardians for the Monster Arena during the quest. Of course they didn't die. You sold them into slavery to be brutalized time and time again. And their mothers are okay with that.

** Though it is subverted regarding the Al Bhed Primers. Al Bhed spheres, which can be found here and there throughout the world, can be used to give you every Primer that was found on other save files. If you have an old save file in which you did find every Primer, or happen to have a relative or friend who did find every Primer, you can still get the ones you missed on your own save file (or alternatively, get them extremely early in the game).

* EliteTweak: Towards the end of the game, if the player has the foresight to initiate a conversation with Wantz [[PermanentlyMissableContent during their first pass on Mr. Gagazet]], he will show up in Macalania Woods later and sell weapons and armor for each member of the party. Each of the equipment he sells comes with four empty customization slots, allowing a grind-tolerant player to craft extremely powerful equipment made with items that must be farmed from particularly difficult enemies.[[note]]While the [[InfinityPlusOneSword Celestial weapons]] do exist, no equivalent exists for armor.[[/note]]
