''The Machine, And Her'' is a mod for [[VideoGame/Fallout4 Fallout 4]] that was released on September 8th, 2019 for PC and Xbox, on both the Nexus Mods platform as well as Bethesda.net.

The player character receives a strange broadcast announcing the "Grand Opening" of a decrepit subway station, and upon investigating they meet Kit, a [[StoicWoobie teenage girl]] who has befriended A.G.N.I.S., an [[CheerfulAI "Automated Transit Steward]] who still announces the arrival and departure of trains, seemingly unaware that the world ended over 150 years ago.

Kit tells the player that A.G.N.I.S. is [[AIIsACrapshoot experiencing pain and distress,]] glitching in and out of awareness, and sometimes even forgetting she and Kit have talked before. The player agrees to help repair A.G.N.I.S., and as the pair travel together across the wasteland it soon becomes apparent that there's [[HiddenDepths something Kit isn't telling you]] about herself.

The mod received widespread acclaim; its creator was featured in an [[https://bethesda.net/en/article/32AWU6xmyjmhTXrpBjmRbR/monthly-modder-nikanine interview on Bethesda.net]] alongside the project itself, which was also chosen as Nexus Mods' file of the month for September 2019.

!!The mod provides examples of:

* Tykebomb: [[spoiler: Kit was stolen from her home territory as a small child, and raised to serve as a [[ChildSoldiers child soldier.]]]]
* Jerkass: [[spoiler: The Arbiter and Jarl Metellus. The Arbiter is the Dwemer who has been enforcing the Draconian laws of the city while Metellus is violating the law in secret to rape Maisi nightly.]]
* TheCallLeftAMessage: Dixon placed [[spoiler: hidden code and messages into the demonstrations units of the A.G.N.I.S store, which would have only been found by someone technically competent enough to shut her down properly.]]
* EvilTwin: Kit's sister, Kat. This trope is possibly subverted, depending on the player's actions.
* BlueAndOrangeMorality: The system of Heralds and Keepers.
* ChekhovsGun: A.G.N.I.S. tells the player early on that she is afraid of water for reasons she can't understand; later it's revealed that [[spoiler: her true location is a subterranean facility that is almost entirely flooded.]]
* DivorcedInstallment: After the success of the project, its creator decided to expand on the universe it introduced by creating a stand-alone game that tells a new story with Kit, set in the world/universe she comes from. The game is called Dead Reckoning and is scheduled for release in late 2022.
