It turns out that Ludger's bloodline gives him the power to travel into a mysterious [[AlternateUniverse parallel universe]], within which he is transformed into a powerful monstrous form. The presence of this parallel world is threatening the future of Elenpois, and Ludger is tasked by Bisley Karcsi Bakur- CEO of the Clanspia Corporation- to seek out and destroy the "Time Factors" that form the keystones of this threat. Aiding him is Ludger's brother Julius Will Kresnik, his pet cat Lulu, and the returning cast from ''Tales Of Xillia''.

All of the main characters from ''Xillia'' have been confirmed to reappear, including some characters that were killed (who appear in the parallel world). The combat system (''Cross Double Raid Linear Motion Battle System'') will allow the player to switch between three different weapon styles on the fly in the heat of battle. Resonance Artes have been split into Unique Artes and Common Artes, the latter of which can be performed between any two characters that have the appropriate move. Furthermore, Ludger now has a special LimitBreak gauge that, when activated, teleports the battlefield into the parallel world where he gains incredible power for a short time.

Ludger Will Kresnik is a twenty-year-old cook and JackOfAllTrades who has managed to wrack up a staggering ''twenty million Gald'' debt. With collectors from the Clanspia Corporation hounding him, he has no choice but to seek out new sources of work and pay back his debt, by way of his old friend and bank accountant Nova.

One day, on the planet Elenpios, a year after the end of the first ''Xillia'', Ludger Will Kresnik, a 20-year-old cook, is suddenly saddled with a staggering ''20-million-gald'' debt. With collectors hounding him, Ludger has no choice but pay up (by way of his old friend Nova, a young bank accountant). Along the way he meets her boss, Bizri, who orders him to travel different time-space planes to wipe out a parallel world, all the while accompanied by a mysterious young girl named Elle Mel Mata, who wants to reach a land said to grant wishes.

Traveling the technologically-advanced parallel world of Elenpios, Ludger will be aided on his quest by his brother Julius, the twins Nova and Vell and his overweight pet cat Lulu. Alvin, Leia, Rowen, Elise and Jude [[spoiler:and even Millia]] from the previous game are also set to make a return. The combat system, the ''Cross Double Raid Linear Motion Battle System'', will allows the player to switch between three different weapon styles on the fly in the heat of battle. In addition, the cutscenes will present the player with the ability to make decisions that will affect the outcome of the plot.
