During gameplay, 2x2 blocks of blue, red or yellow Sonics fall into the screen and must be erased for as long as possible as you'd expect. To do that, the player must build a line of a single color such that it either encircles a group of blocks or completes a path across any two edges of the board. Clearing Sonics deals a proportionate amount of damage to Dr. Eggman at the middle of the screen until the player is awarded with a Chaos Emerald that will clear all lines over it.

''[=SegaSonic=] Bros.'' is a FallingBlocks PuzzleGame designed by Fukio Mitsuji of ''VideoGame/BubbleBobble'' fame. Although planned for a 1992 release in arcades, it didn't perform well in location tests and was quietly cancelled by Sega. The game went completely forgotten outside of rumors for over two decades until information on it was disclosed in 2016 by arcade collector [=ShouTime=]. It was finally showcased to the public at the California Extreme event two years later in 2018.

At least the aesthetics are more fitting to the series than those of ''Sonic Eraser'' and there ''is'' a certain Sonic-ness to being able to clear blocks by tracing curves around the screen.
