* CCGImportanceDissonance: For CompetitiveBalance's sake, the power levels of many characters are off compared to the source material:
** '''Stronger than canon:''' Zwei is a destructive power house capable of annihilating tons of units in one blow, a nice step up for a PluckyComicRelief dog. Neopolitan and Roman are extremely powerful as well, and though Neo's true power is still ambiguous in the show, Torchwick's CaneFu is definitely way stronger than it should. Finally, most {{Mook}}s became way more dangerous here especially thanks to [[ZergRush the power of teamwork]] (where in ''RWBY'' ConservationOfNinjutsu was in full effect).
** '''Weaker than canon:''' Both Blake cards are surprisingly weak in this game compared to the other main characters as they mainly serve to distract units and/or sneak out in the enemy base. Cinder is similarly very frail despite her role as TheDragon and dies in a few hits.

Added DiffLines:

* ExcusePlot: There's only one cut-scene/tutorial where Ruby and Yang introduces the player to a new Scroll game featuring participants in the Vytal Tournament and... that's it. Don't question why the makers of this GameWithinAGame also included renowned (or sometimes even unregistered) Vale criminals. [[TeamPet And a flaming dog too.]]

* FakeBalance: At this early stage, a lot of matches boil down to "ZergRush the turrets and towers". Since many {{Mook}}s are in the 2-3 range, it's easy to wait for a player to make a small miscalculation, then launch a swarm of enemies too numerous for characters like Ice Weiss or Scythe Ruby to take out with their AOE attacks effectively.

This was eventually counterbalanced with the addition of more low aura AOE characters namely Cinder and especially Zwei, the later being an extremely fast and easy to use ZergRush killer.

Added DiffLines:

* CaneFu: Torchwick's cane has a concealed [[GrapplingHookPistol grappling-hook]] hidden in it. Also it might seem weird at first that he doesn't use its [[ShoePhone hidden cannon]] as well, but it's not when you realize that it's surprisingly the most powerful melee weapon in the game, only rivaled by his partner in crime Neo's {{parasol|OfPain}}.

Added DiffLines:

* GrapplingHookPistol: Roman Torchwick has one hidden inside his cane. It can catch any opponent on the map and grab it to him (with the added bonus of [[StatusAilment making them dizzy]], long enough for a good ol' fashion whoopin') or draw an ally next to Roman which is useful to [[SummonBiggerFish transport slow units directly to the enemy base]].

Added DiffLines:

* ParasolOfPain: Neo's signature parasol acts as a [[LuckilyMyShieldWillProtectMe super-shield]] of sorts, then when it's broken draws the SwordCane hidden in it for a devastating counter-attack.

Added DiffLines:

* YouWillNotEvadeMe: Several characters have the ability to hit other units from anywhere on the arena, wether it's by sniping them from a distance (Roman, Penny, Cinder) or by going right to them (Shadow Blake, Crow, Zwei, Beringel).

** Pitra Gigas' quote in its Card Info is from Floyd, the {{Jerkass}} Geist from ''RWBY Chibi'' annoying the two Beowolves Mike and Marty.

* GaleForceSound: Flynt's ability pushes the enemy units with his trumpet[[MesACrowd (s)]] which can disrupt the opponents' attacks or stale for precious seconds.

** Flynt's initial trumpet attack is unbreakable and devastating for large groups of weaker units. After that however, his regular "toots!" are extremely weak and Flynt himself has very little HP, rendering him almost useless past his placement.

** When placed on the arena, Flynt Coal uses his Killer Quartet to summon 3 copies of himself and blast GaleForceSound. Unlike the show, they are not [[ColourCodedForYourConvenience color-coded]] and all have the original's appearance.

* MusicalAssassin: Flynt fights with a jazzy trumpet, and can even turn it into a whole quartet all by himself. Though without his semblance to boost it, it's probably the weakest weapon in the game...

* OneHitPointWonder: Emerald's illusions are this but retains the originals' attack powers. Now you just have to make sure that they attack before getting attacked.

* RevisitingTheRoots: Despite coming around the same time as Volume 6, almost all the elements from this game are from the first three seasons before the short TimeSkip. The only elements taken from the "Maya Engine era" are two Mistral locations and the Beringel Grimm (all of them only available late game) plus some [[CostumeEvolution outfits]] for Team RWBY.

* ChuckCunninghamSyndrome: Although the [[https://www.facebook.com/notes/rwby-amity-arena/developer-letter-1/2307073526236555/ dev team promised]] to eventually hopefully include [[LoadsAndLoadsOfCharacters every single character from the original show]], some important ones are still currently missing. This is especially true for some Teams that lack half of their members or more like for examples Velvet and Fox for [[BigDamnHeroes Team CFVY]] or Flynt's FNKY partner [[GenkiGirl Neon]]. But the developers confirmed that they prioritize CompetitiveBalance over popular fan requests as for who comes to the game first.

''RWBY: Amity Arena'' is a mobile phone-based video game released in 2018. It is based off of the popular web-aired animated series ''WebAnimation/{{RWBY}}'' by Creator/RoosterTeeth and Creator/MontyOum.

Set prior to the events of Volume 3, you're confronted by Ruby Rose and her half-sister Yang Xiao Long over the brand-new game "Amity Arena", using people participating in the Vytal Tournament. Thanks to Ruby and Yang's help, you're given the basics over how this new Tower Defense game works and you set off to climb the ranks in your own way.

!!The Game features examples of the following tropes:

* AnIcePerson: Ice Weiss, whose special skill lets her encase her opponents in ice.
* AwesomeButImpractical: Anything that costs 5+ Aura. As Aura builds up slowly over time and only speeds up during the final minute, it's easier to launch 2-3 Aura-charged characters than wait for a 5, 6, or 7 Aura-charged characters to launch
* ButtMonkey: Jaune, as usual. When Ruby finds out he's in the game, she's shocked at it before she quickly changes her tone.
* LightEmUp: Nolan, who uses a taser rod, Rocket Yang, who uses Ember Cella, and Sun Wukong.
* MesACrowd: Team RWBY, with the exception of Weiss, has multiple selves. thus it is quite possible to launch two different versions of the same heroine.
* {{Mook}}: Many of the normal-bordered cards you can use either use White Fang members, Atlas machines or Grimm.
* ThrowingYourSwordAlwaysWorks: Or rather, your shield, as Pyrrha pulls a Captain America and throws her shield around.
* ZergRush: Baby Death Stalkers and Lancer Swarms. White Fang Goons as well.
