Having hated Devlin Deval out of jealousy, he considered it a blessing when the former got killed attempting a stunt and extended his grudge to his daughter, Dera. Convincing Dera to sign a contract that would entitle him to all her inheritance in the event that she got killed or arrested, Macintosh devised a plan to kill her and make it look like an accident. When Plan A is foiled, however, he has to resort to Plan B, which is getting Dera arrested. He dressed in one of Dera's spare costumes and robbed a bank, during which he hit an innocent woman with a car because she saw his face. When Dera is arrested, he feigns concern and hires Phoenix because he's the first lawyer he comes across, thinking that the former would lose the case. When Phoenix finally realizes that Macintosh is the one behind everything and calls him to the stand, he revels in being a SmugSnake and worms his way out of all of the defense's arguments. Until Hawk decides he's had enough and teams up with Phoenix to take him down. This, combined with an assist from Manley and Gumshoe allow both attorneys to finally corner Macintosh. However, even defeated, he's not done being a scumbag, as he spites Dera by telling her that nobody truly cares about her and people will try to kill her for her wealth.
