** The Hadouken upgrade in the original, and most of the special unlockable powers in the following installments. The Hadouken in particular requires you not only to have all of the other upgrades and items (many of which are Guide Dang-Its themselves), but also to jump into a specific BottomlessPit and die four times in a row before it appears.

** Possible pun here, but the series is known for having little Mining robots known as Metools. In the X Universe all of the robots have been made obsolete by the creation of Reploids which would make this series equivalent Pun Mettdroids

* LighterAndSofter: In a DarkerAndEdgier sequel series to Mega Man Classic, the X series has it's lighter moments. X1 and X8 are considerably more upbeat and cheerful compared to the other games.

* VideoGame/Mega Man X3 (SNES, Saturn/PSonly in Japan and Europe, PC): First game where Zero is playable. A port was released for the SegaSaturn and PlayStation, including CD-quality music, a save feature and anime cut-scenes, but not in North America prior to its PC port and its inclusion in Mega Man X Collection. Like X2, it also used a microchip in the SNES version for 3D effects (the disc-based ports just used their native 3D for the effects).
