The story focuses on the Baltian prince Garett's armies as they engage the Dalsis Empire in combat alongside the beasts unwittingly unleashed. This is a tale between the forces of good and an ancient evil that poses a threat to the world. The conflict began when the Dalsis Emprie raided the realm of Baldia, prompting King Alfador to send his son away to ensure he is safe in Sultras Town.

!!The original game / Warsong provides examples of:
* BigDamnHeroes: In Scenario 4, Chris and Thorn lead magical troops to come to save Ledin's party from {{Blob Monster}}s that are highly resistant to physical attacks.
* BlackKnight: Lance, recurring foe and the Empire's most notable warrior, is always wearing dark (though sometimes depicted as more blue than black) armor with gold trim.
* CrutchCharacter: Volkov. His units can mow down any enemy troop while only suffering minimal casualties (even in the case of [[ScissorsCutsRock type mismatches]]). He also gets a PlotlineDeath at the end of Chapter 5.
* KilledOffscreen: Ledin's father, King Illzach; after Ledin escapes from the castle siege in Scenario 1, he's informed of his death later on after reuniting with Narm.
* RedShirt: The Civilians being protected by Chris in Scenario 2 have zero attack power, and are rather swiftly killed off by the roving barbarians on the map.
