Something I'm temporally keeping here for safe keeping, feel free to contact me about what it means.
- A VN about a prosecutor and trial. I know, I know, you're thinking it's just a derivative of Phoenix Wright. But I actually want the player to have chance to play as a morally ambiguous prosecutor. At key points in the investigation, which would occur in a largely linear fashion, you'd be allowed to bend or break the rules (if you so wish). This could go from following improper but boring procedures actually falsifying evidence and threatening witnesses.
The interesting thing would be that in order to obtain an conviction, the player would be required to actually bend or break the rules significantly, for the accused would actually be innocent, despite the impression that we'd give to the players beforehand (and which would become more apparent as the trial goes on). So, effectively, to 'win', you'd actually need to lose the case.
- A VN about a man reminiscing about his childhood interactions with his parents and grandparents. Very little would be presented initially about the man, who starts to remember the past. The interlacing of the story would occur so that after two-three 'interactions' in the past, we'd cut back to the man in the present and show how these actions shaped the person that he is today, in more or less subtle ways.
- A VN about a traumatized war veteran, who's starts to have vivid flashbacks that interlace with his real life. The dilemma for the player would be that the actions taken in said flashbacks would have immediate consequences in real-life, i.e., striking at an enemy would correspond to doing so to a complete stranger. However, the only choices that would be offered would be ones that have a negative impact and that would realistically be taken by a soldier in a bad situation.
In a sense, it'd be about the illusion of choice in war and the effects it has on it's participants.
- Finally, a VN about a person who suffers severe prejudice from being a minority in his day-to-day life. The idea would be to present always the same terrible and progressively getting worse situations (ranging from social snubs to death threats), but that there would be three branching paths for the actions and dialogue taken, one where the person endures things stoically, one where they lash out against those who persecute them and one where the person simply runs away from these situations. So initially, there would be a wide range of spectrum of possibilities, but as the player takes more actions, this would narrow down to their inevitable conclusions.
The endings would be ambiguous, so that the person who endures stoically would, by the end, have the 'moral' ground, but would also suffer physically and mentally from it; the person who fights back would be able to confront and even hurt / injure severely those who attack them, but also ends up being chased and possibly arrested for it all; and the person who runs escapes more or less unscathed, but also ends up abandoning everything and everyone they have and know. All this to show that, in such situations, all the choices are hard ones.
