Vega Strike is an open-source space game in a similar style to {{Elite}} and WingCommander Privateer. You have finally managed to scrape together enough money for a basic Llama shuttle, outfitted with sufficient gear to begin your adventure, and a modest sum in your account to... well, [[WideOpenSandbox it's up to you]]. You can purchase goods and deliver them to other locations, you can patrol the systems for pirate activity, you can sit in the bar and talk to patrons until one gives you a job, or you can look for contracts for more income.
Just be careful; there are a lot of factions out there, and any actions you do for one can have an effect on the others. Make too many enemies, and you'll never be safe. Of course, whether this is good or not is up to you.

* AnEntrepreneurIsYou: You start the game with a small amount of money, and you need to increase it to get better gear, better ships, etc.
* BeamSpam: If you have enough space on your ship and enough money in your account, you, too, can have this wonderful form of overkill. With the right ship and tracking equipment, they won't escape.
* ContinuingIsPainful: At the beginning, at least, if you lose your ship, you can eject and escape death, but there's not much else you can do with what little money you have left. Once you have a better bank balance, this aspect eases off.
* CoolShip: The beginning Llama ship is not a bad-looking ship at all.
** Of course, the Military Goddard with several on-board beam weapons and a military-grade tracking autotargeting system is one of the most beautiful sights there are.
*** Unless, of course, you manage to score one of the Aera's ships...
* CopyAndPasteEnvironments: Planet bases seem pretty... identical, regardless of race or faction.
* DeflectorShields
* FasterThanLightTravel: The SPEC drive and jump gates.
* SpaceIsNoisy: [[AvertedTrope Averted]]. Even when you take damage, what you hear is the hull ringing from the impact.
