[[spoiler: Okay, I want to emphasize the fact that this does not reflect how I feel about myself at all. Like, in any way. My actual troper page can be viewed [[Sandbox/{{Rumetzen}} here.]] This is simply a project I'm working on to pass the time.]]

In 2012, 16 year old Dean Paradise decided to tell a story that would live on through the ages. A story that would be compared to works such as TheIliad, TheDivineComedy, and WarAndPeace. A story that would become the linchpin of a generation and shape the course of history. A story that would make people care about stories again.

To be brief brief, [[{{Understatement}} He succeeded.]]

First published in 2012 and running til 2022, Rumetzen tells the story of the eponymous wanderer, who travels through the [[CityOfAdventure seemingly infinite city of Dis,]] looking for the man who killed his family. [[spoiler: It's eventually revealed that this is a lie. The man is actually Rumetzen's brother, who made a deal with [[TheDevil Mephistopheles]] to gain ultimate power. Rumetzen took this as a betrayal, and vowed to hunt him down and kill him.]] Along the way he meets and interacts with an incredibly large cast of characters, including Vance, a chain smoking, CrazyAwesome musician who uses a guitar as a weapon, Meg, a pyrokinetic punk and main love interest for most of the story, the crazy hermit Daidiades, and many more.

The character Rumetzen is often cited as one of the best examples of LawfulGood in modern storytelling. Dean manages to avoid many of the problems associated with the archtype, creating a character who is extremely lawful, yet never lets that get in the way of doing the right thing. However, he's still deeply flawed, and constantly must wrestle with his inner emotions, most notably of which is the self loathing that stems from his FailureKnight status.

One of the most notable things about the series was the way it dealt with a wide variety of dark themes, ranging from Existential Anxiety to the ethics of murder, but still managed to maintain an optimistic attitude. On the SlidingScaleOfIdealismVersusCynicism, it's firmly on the idealistic side. One of the ideas most often brought up is the necessity of looking past pain and tragedy to forge a better life, an idea that Dean would further explore in later works such as LolipodDistortion.
