Hmm. Let's see. I'm 16 years old, female, and something of an [[{{Understatement}} unusual person]]. I like "art" (that's my catch-all term for visual art, writing and music). I'm also quite fond of animals, especially [[{{RidiculouslyCuteCritter}} small, fluffy rodents]] (hamsters in particular make me {{squee}}). I always feel a weird need to inform people that I'm genderqueer (which is just a fancy and weird term that refers to when you don't particularly feel like you belong to one gender or another). I have Aspergers' syndrome and synesthesia (and if you don't know what either are or what they mean, I hope you won't be too upset by having to look them up). Despite the fact that I am a teenager, I do not talk like a teenager is typically expected to. In fact, I imagine my speech comes off sounding like a cross between [[AdventuresInOdyssey Eugene Meltsner]], OscarWilde (or someone else from around that time period), and possibly a British person from TheSixties (perhaps Liverpool, because I've got [[TheBeatles something specific]] in mind). I am fond of playing music, mostly using bass, guitar, drums, mandolin, kazoo and autoharp (as they are my favorite ones to play). [[http://www.youtube.com/user/PippinMercury I make albums, in fact.]] My pseudonym is Jude Conlee. I feel better about being known for a pseudonym than a real name, for some reason.

If you wanted to look at my good qualities, you might say that I'm generally helpful to the people around me, creative, outwardly caring, polite enough, self-controlled and I do what I'm told. And then there are my negative qualities, including but not limited to a degree of apathy, a tendency towards depression, weirdness, complete lack of desire to act normal, a fondness for thinking about morbid and dark things, isolation from the world around me (in an "living-in-a-different-world-mostly-on-purpose" sense) and a ridiculous habit of thinking I'm going insane at most times. I find my negative qualities more interesting.

I used to read a lot when I was younger, but not so much anymore. Still, I do like a few books these days; mostly BridesheadRevisited, {{Wicked}}, [[{{KurtVonnegut}} Cat's Cradle]] (I love KurtVonnegut), WatershipDown, and my favorite - TheGreatGatsby. I watch films even more infrequently, but when I do, they're generally comedies, like NapoleonDynamite, [[{{BillAndTed}} Bill And Ted's Excellent Adventure]] and WhatAboutBob. I'm fond of TheMuppets. I'm even more fond of MontyPython. Music's one of my favorite things. Anachronistically, I'm most fond of 60's [[{{WhatDoYouMeanItWasntMadeOnDrugs}} psychedelic music]] (though I do like some 90's-00's indie music, too) - PinkFloyd (I am a Syd Barrett fangirl and I am not ashamed to admit it), NeutralMilkHotel, TheBeatles, PsychicIlls, TheDecemberists, {{Cream}}, TheWho, TalkingHeads, TheyMightBeGiants, {{Rasputina}}, TheVelvetUnderground, TheClash, TheUnicorns - oh, I like just about anything that's good and weird.

If you see any similarities between the tropes used in my works and the tropes found in my life, it's because I have a habit of basing my works off of my life (or at least, I glean inspiration from my life).

So yeah. Cheers.

'''This Troper's life provides examples of:'''
* ADarkerMe: Inverted; my online personas and literary self-insertions usually emphasize my more positive, light, happy, whimsical, idealistic aspects (as opposed to the negative, dark, depressed, angsty, cynical side of myself). Sometimes I'll base a character in my writing off of my more negative qualities, but I typically poke fun at them.
* AfraidOfNeedles: Me, and to a lesser extent, my younger sister Becky.
* ApologizesALot: My mum has gotten tired of years of this.
* {{Asexuality}}: It's a lot more complicated than that, but, to put it as simply as you can, asexual is what I am.
* BerserkButton: I don't go too terribly berserk, but I ''do'' get quite upset when people suggest that I had to be on drugs to create the psychedelic art that I draw. When kids at my digital art class started asking me what my favorite drugs were, I had had enough by that point and refused to let them see any of my art again, ever (except for the one time one of them requested I draw a psychedelically-colored mushroom for her, which I did - I don't know why). I believe that this also got my animation teacher, Mr. Graham (who happens to be Alex Graham of TheInternalTulips), upset. Like, for example, he was once showing us YellowSubmarine in the class, and he prefaced it with basically an explanation of how it [[WhatDoYouMeanItWasntMadeOnDrugs wasn't made on drugs]]. He then said that ''he'' was often accused of using drugs to create weird animations. He did not go berserk, but he ''did'' assume a very upset tone, the sort that lets you know that the person using it has been quite offended. I never ever saw him anything other than happy or neutral before or after that.
* CatchPhrase: There are plenty of phrases I use over and over again that the people around me have come to associate with me, such as "Good crikey!", "I have no clue what you just ''said''", "Works for me" and "That's what I'm here for", but my favorite is the one I made up myself - "Oh badgers!"
* CloudCuckooLander: I was surprised at reading the article, in fact, because I thought, "My gosh, that's ''me''!" Exaggerated once I got into art school. ''Everyone'' is a CloudCuckooLander. Even a lot of the teachers. You're considered atypical if you're ''not'' strange.
* CoolBigSis: ''I'' don't have one, but I fulfil this role to my little sister. I make stuff for her, I share some of her interests, and I even gave her an iPod once. She thinks I'm pretty darned cool.
* CrowningMomentOfFunny: So I was playing a game with my mum, my sister, my "aunt" (who's really my second cousin), and her daughter. Now, I don't remember what game it was - it involved cards, I recall - but there was a point at which no one was completely sure what was going on. During this time, I yelled, in an extraordinarily goofy voice, "[[TheGreatGatsby The GREAAAAAT GAAAATSBYYYYY!]]" That wasn't what was funny. A few minutes later, the game got back on track and we kept playing. Then, my mum yelled, out of nowhere, "The GREAAAAAT GAAAATSBYYYYY!" ''That'' was the CrowningMomentOfFunny.
* DeadpanSnarker: I'm fond of sometimes doing this.
* DidIJustSayThatOutLoud: Often used for comic effect. "My gosh, I just said that."
* [[DontSingAlongIfYouKnowTheWords Don't Sing Along If You Know The Words]]: I talk in song quotes and titles a lot. Some people catch it. Most people don't.
* EpilepticTrees: My friends and I call them "crackpot theories".
* GratuitousGerman: My family is perfectly American (save for the fact that my father lived in Germany for a while and our surname also happens to be German), but I have a fondness for saying things in German randomly. Especially "Ich bin ein Regenschirm" (I am an umbrella) and other such things that earn me my [[CloudCuckooLander cuckoo]] status.
* GoshDangItToHeck: Swearing is very strongly forbidden in my family, and I guess the rules that are enforced at home carry over to other places. Plus, I just like euphemisms. Though, I will occasionally swear if I'm around my friends (who are okay with that) and I'm ''really'' upset, angry, or otherwise feeling something negative (which I rarely am). And (I like to think) it's always of the PrecisionFStrike variety.
* TheHyena: I fancy it's how I cope with life.
* IAmTheBand: Literally. People hear the CD's I make and ask what it's like to be in a band, and some even ask if they can join the band, and I must inform them that there ''is'' no band.
* [[ItsNotYouItsMe It's Not You, It's Me]]: Surprisingly, all my usages of the phrase have been used outside of its typical context of breakups. (That's because I've never had the ''opportunity'' to use it in a breakup yet.)
* TheMadHatter: Subverted. I ''call'' myself crazy, but I'm not really insane. I'm just wired a little differently. (Or so I like to think.)
* MajorInjuryUnderreaction: I fairly frequently run into doors and walls and it makes a loud banging noise that most people seem to consider painful-sounding. They immediately rush to me and ask me frantically if I'm okay. Not only am I okay, I didn't even feel anything.
* MemeticOutfit: Double subverted. I used to wear shorts and patterned knee socks that everyone knew me for. Then I stopped wearing them. Then I took on a habit of wearing [[NiceHat hats]] all the time.
* MindScrew: My thought processes. Just - my thought processes.
* MinorInjuryOverreaction: My younger sister Becky. She will burst into tears and be totally inconsolable for 15 minutes if she so much as stubs her toe. I am not exaggerating this. Once, when we were at the grocery store, my mum just randomly started parodying her behavior, to great comic effect. The funniest thing about it was that Becky couldn't even tell that it was her who was being imitated.
* NiceHat: Exaggerated. I lost count of how many hats I had after about the thirteenth one. Though, now, I tend to keep it to just a brown flat cap and a black bowler hat with a whole bunch of button pins stuck into it (which someone once described as my "folk singing hat", which only makes sense because he loves folk music a lot - I'm not a folk singer, though).
* NightmareFetishist: I've been this way ever since I was a little kid. I'm thankful for the pages where tropers can share their tales of NightmareFuel because it satisfies my fetish.
* ThePowerOfRock: Used in a highly interesting way. It's not "the power of rock" as you typically think of it, but I was ''extremely'' depressed at one point (as in, got extremely miserable and suicidal at least once a day). Rock music - both my own and that of the bands I was listening to at the time (mostly {{Queen}}) - helped get me out of that depression by giving me something to think about that I liked.
* RummageSaleReject: Thrift store, actually, in my case.
* SheCleansUpNicely: There was one occasion in which I put on more fashionable clothes and let one of my former acquaintances put make-up on me. She was amazed at my transformation from T-shirt-and-jeans-wearing self to more traditionally attractive. Subverted, I suppose, in that ''I'' didn't really think I looked prettier.
* StepfordSmiler: Zig-zagged. Sometimes I pretend to be happy, even though I really have depression. Sometimes I genuinely feel happy. Sometimes I feel sad and act sad.
* SophisticatedAsHell: I usually don't use the swearing element (using [[GoshDangItToHeck euphemisms]] instead), but other than that, it ''perfectly'' describes the way I talk. ''Perfectly.''
* TheSuziQuatroPrinciple: I tried to form a band with myself as the keyboardist and singer, and initially the other members said yes, but later (without my permission) they chose someone else to fill that role. The band was without a bassist and I without an instrument; desperate to stay in the group, I learned how to play bass specifically for that purpose. The group has since disbanded, but I am now left to be labelled solely as a bassist in any musical situation (though I do play eight other instruments aside from the mentioned bass and keyboard).
* WeNamedTheMonkeyJack: My stage name is currently Jude Conlee. People ask me, "Why Jude?" all the time. I give them two explanations, and they can choose to believe either one. One of them is that I got it from TheBeatles song "Hey Jude". The other is that I once had a (male) hamster named Jude, which was named after the song, and I would have named myself after it because 1, it was my favorite animal that I've ever known, and 2, I wanted to be the second rock star to be named after a hamster ([[TheSexPistols Sid Vicious]] being the first - no, I am ''not'' kidding).
* WeirdnessCoupon: It's quite off-putting initially, but once you've known me for a while, you generally decide that what, coming from most people, would be proclaimed insanity is "just Jude".

'''This Troper's works (which you have almost assuredly never been exposed to, but that she is still putting here) provide examples of:'''

* AlbumTitleDrop: I love this trope. Used in all of my albums recorded as Jude Conlee (which are ''Red Lobster Telephone'', ''This Side of Soon'', and ''The Cold Equations''. Yes, like the short story.)
* BerserkButton: In ''The Rebel'', the main character, Sawyer Snipe, gets angry all of one time during the course of the book. That is the time that someone accuses his band of making "drugs music".
* CloudCuckooLander: Severin Barrett from {{Fragile}} is the most notable one so far, but there have been others.
* DisneyAcidSequence: In one of my screenplays, ''A Rare Process'', there is a part in which one of the more villainous-seeming characters tortures a main character by taking "a little trip into the center of [his] mind". What ensues is a frighteningly trippy animated sequence, although it's not explained what exactly happened.
* GainaxEnding: Two my four screenplays end this way. One, ''Windowpane Mind Completely'', ends with the main character finding himself locked in a white room with no windows and only one door. He tries opening the door, only to realize "[he] can't get out!". Another, ''A Rare Process'', ends with that film's main character (who may or may not be a character in ''Windowpane Mind Completely'' - they share the same name, which may indicate something, or nothing) meeting two characters who go unnamed except in the script, having a surreal exchange with them, and running off with them, all three of them holding swords (it's a contemporary setting, not a historical or fantasy one).
* {{Improv}}: All my drum fills, all my guitar solos, all my piano solos, all my anything else solos...
* TheMadHatter: In {{Fragile}}, it's used in that [[spoiler: Severin Barrett experiences a temporary respite from his madness long enough to work out that something is wrong with him]]. In ''The Rebel'', Sawyer Snipe states in the very beginning that he is "criminally insane", but [[spoiler: it turns out that he is ''not'' insane, but rather just considered such by society - he ends up in a mental institution by the book's end - so all that stuff throughout the book about him being crazy is completely untrue]]. This trope also pops up in my music a lot, with song narrators admitting they are mad or that they believe themselves insane.
* MindProbe: This seems to be the purpose of what catalyzed the DisneyAcidSequence in ''A Rare Process''. How it was done is not explained.
* MindScrew: Some of my songs are very confusing if you try to interpret the lyrics (which I don't, by the way). I also have short stories that fall under this category, such as [[http://pippin-the-mercury.deviantart.com/gallery/#/d27uk3x Ringo's Garden]], [[http://pippin-the-mercury.deviantart.com/gallery/#/d1y3e5s May]], and [[http://pippin-the-mercury.deviantart.com/gallery/#/d21wtoj Someday I Will Let You Go]]. There are more I have written (including two of my four screenplays), they're just not available on the internet.
* ShrugOfGod: I do not know what my screenplays mean. I do not know what my songs are about. I don't even know what some of my short stories are about. I do not ''claim'' to know, either.
* StepfordSmiler: Zig-zagged. Most of my mad/depressed characters (and there's a lot of them) do not fit this trope, but there ''is'' one subverted inversion. Sebastian Dean from ''Paradise Found'' acts depressed, when he is, in actuality, rather happy. This is subverted when he meets Syd Scott, the story's terminally ill protagonist. Sebastian concludes that he should try to act happy, after meeting someone who has a ''real'' reason to be sad, plus coming to grips with the fact that his feigned depression is really just a ploy to get attention from people.

Sebastian concludes that he should try to act happy, after meeting someone who has a ''real'' reason to be sad, plus coming to grips with the fact that his feigned depression is really just a ploy to get attention from people.

* StepfordSmiler: Averted. I have so many depressed and/or crazy characters that you'd imagine that at least ''one'' of them would fit this trope, but no. They don't.
