-->Some days, it seems like everyone around here who's of much consequence is driven by something horrible in their personal history, like sexual assault or dead parents. But I'm a chronic non-joiner, so I figured I'd buck the trend. It may not make me interestingly dark and brooding, but that's a sacrifice I'm willing to make.
--->-Arshan, Another Angel Down, by this troper

A youngish male troper that gets entirely too easily drawn into this wiki. I'm a rampant geek with a fascination for RPGs (primarily tabletop), video games of most stripes, and almost anything science fiction or fantasy. Avid reader of books and (web)comics, watcher of some small amount of anime (mostly seinen with a sprinkling of shonen), and the occasional movie and TV show.

Probably the central feature of my life at the moment is my daily writing blog, Disposable Words, which I really wish I could get a responsive audience for. (Though I largely think my own work sucks horribly, so... yeah.) I write mostly fantasy, with a dash of science fiction. Mostly I'm posting the first draft of a novel page by page each day, but I periodically dump a few one-shots and short pieces in as well when the novels aren't doing so well.

The novels I've been publishing on my blog include the following:

* Gideon's story, an as-yet-unnamed pseudo-Victorian character study of a man named Gideon Fane, a gentleman and mage in a world where magic has been reduced to the everyday workings of society. Influenced mostly, if in an indirect fashion, by The Picture of Dorian Gray by Oscar Wilde. It sucks. Don't read it even if you do go poking around on my site.

* Another Angel Down, an UrbanFantasy following Arshan Ansari, a kith or "being of magic" who doesn't know his own lineage, and gets stuck trying to protect an angel-like being from those who want to harvest its magic-rich body parts. A light biopunk fantasy concerned with PostModernMagik, genetics, breeding, and issues surrounding ArtificialLimbs and advanced cybernetics fueled by magic. Not much better than Gideon's story, so feel free to avoid that too.
** Currently in its second draft, a complete repurposing of setting and plot. Most of the themes will remain the same. The titular "angel" is going to be... very different from in the first draft. Possibly readable if I manage to keep the current tone, quality, and momentum going. The story is to be much more of a character-driven drama than the first draft, using the AppliedPhlebotinum as an excuse to explore the interplay of personality change and physical change.

* Lords of Light, a Bronze Age fantasy in a pseudo-Sumer riven by the strife between dark magic and light magic. An intentional attempt to write a reversed Monomyth chronicling the cyclical nature of a hero's descent into villainy. On hiatus because of plotting problems. Not as bad as Gideon's story or the first draft of Another Angel Down, but there's always room for failure. Possibly readable.

* Never Special, my half of a collaborative superhero romance story, from the perspective of Amanda Park, who has the "standard set" of the world's most common superpowers. Very patchwork, with bits and pieces jumping around all over the place. The other half, from the perspective of Amanda's supervillain love interest Nefarious, is published on my coauthor's private blog. Currently on something of a hiatus for plotting and planning while said coauthor grapples with classes, work, and student teaching all at once. Moderately readable.

doubt I ever will, and will refrain from the perspective of Amanda Park, who has the "standard set" of the world's most common superpowers. Very patchwork, with bits and pieces jumping around all over the place. The other half, from the perspective of Amanda's supervillain love interest Nefarious, is published on subjecting anyone to my coauthor's private blog. Currently on something of a hiatus for plotting and planning while said coauthor grapples with classes, work, and student teaching all works at once. Moderately readable.
this point in time. Atlus video games currently own my life.
