*TheChessmaster. Especially if it's totally not obvious, and even more so if there is no reason to suspect either way whether it's obvious, and even ''still more so'' if you suspect there's a Chessmaster but it is not obvious that the suspected Chessmaster is just a pawn by another Chessmaster.
*ComedicSociopathy. ''HouseMD'' especially.

*LampshadeHanging. If done sparingly and never in excess.

Few things can [[MindScrew screw with a player's head]] more than finding out that the really cool totally-desired thing is unreachable because of [[GuideDangIt didn't something not obvious they didn't do earlier in the game]]. Granted I don't like it when this is abused ad nauseum in games to the point where you want to take it out and douse it with napalm, but it's at least a ''little'' fun wondering what you still may not have noticed from time to time.
*MartialPacifist. People can unleash great whoop-ass but refuse to do it except as a very last resort.
*{{Metroidvania}}. ''So'' much.
*NewGamePlus. Especially if {{Game Breaker}}s were scarce in the first playthrough, and newly available Game Breakers are immensely satisfying in the New Game Plus.
*NiceGuy. Sometimes ''too much'' negative drama is exhausting, and then nothing is quite as refreshing as a genuinely good-natured level-headed personality. But he can still be BadAss, most definitely.
*TheNotSecret. It's been declared a total secret. So naturally, everybody knows.

*SchalaLives. Though not specifically [[ChronoTrigger Schala]]. [[ChronoCross Anymore]]. I mean, [[HeroicSacrifice some characters are supposed to die to properly advance the plot]]. But sometimes it's fun to [[FanOn toy with the idea]] that a character didn't ''actually'' die. I don't appreciate it if it's merely a [[FanDumb popular character fans didn't want to die]]. But if done in an organic storytelling way, it can be good.
*SceneryPorn. Not actual ''porn'', but rich scenery that brings you back again and again and again. Such nostalgia.
*SecretCharacter. TheReveal moment when you get to play the Secret Character is priceless and irreplaceable.
*SequenceBreaking. If it's awesome.
*ShirtlessScene. Especially when it's the guy's [[LimitedWardrobe normal outfit]].
*ShoutOutVideoGames. If subtle but nevertheless noticeable.
*SolveTheSoupCans. If done enjoyably, like in the ''LegendOfZelda'' games.
*StraightGay. So awesome if it's done right, especially in conjunction with good emotional HoYay.
*TransparentCloset. I've had so many friends like this it's become amusing.

I like them if they're clever, but I ''loathe'' them if they are based on [[DidNotDoTheResearch shoddy research]] (multicultural references especially) or if they {{Bowdlerise}}, {{Macekre}} or [[ExecutiveMeddling infect]] with {{Americanitis}} or [[NeverSayDie paranoid overprotection of target demographics]]. Death!--I mean, Doom!--err, I mean Death!...right?
*WordOfGay. The creators had principles, even if they were unable to put them in the story.
