* WhatCouldHaveBeen: Fox's 2015 reboot of ComicBook/FantasticFour was originally going to be a part of this series' universe. The higher-ups at Marvel vetoed the idea, however, and considering the critical and box office thrashing the movie received, this is probably for the best.
** Dark Phoenix was originally going to be the start of another trilogy, which much like how First Class, Days of Future Past, and Apocalypse all featured prominent time periodsthe 60s for First Class, the 70s for the past segments of Future Past, and the 80s for Apocalypse, with Dark Phoenix covering the 90s, and (presumably) it's 2 sequels would've covered the 2000s and 2010s. However, even if Dark Phoenix does well, it's possible that said trilogy won't happen, due to Disney buying Fox and the [=MCU=] higher-ups have made comments suggesting a complete reboot is planned.

** Singer even has a second favorite: Nightcrawler. He's been trying to find some way to bring the blue elf back since Film/X2XMenUnited all the way back in 2003. He finally succeeded over a dozen years later in Film/XMenApocalypse.

** After the Franchise/MarvelCinematicUniverse proved to be a highly successful franchise through annual releases, Fox started putting out movies at an annual rate as well. Before, one would have to wait three years to get one X-Men movie, but now there are two years with two releases (2006: Film/2016 and Film/XMenApocalypse; 2019: Film/TheNewMutants and Film/XMenDarkPhoenixboth were planned for 2018 along with Film/Deadpool2, but ExecutiveMeddling on the former and the extended post-production on the latter delayed them. It's likely they want to create their own Cinematic Universe out of X-Men, just like Marvel's own - and with Disney's purchase of Fox, there has been speculation that the two would make up a single universe.

** There are a lot of similarities between Will Graham from Series/Hannibal and the younger Professor X in Film/XMenFirstClass and Film/XMenDaysOfFuturePast. Will's "pure empathy" is not unlike Charles' mind-reading power (and since Will's brain contains an abnormally high number of mirror neurons, this would make him a genetic mutant), their BlessedWithSuck "gift" can cause them a tremendous amount of agony, and they're both tormented by a love-hate, emotionally intimate, homoerotic friendship with a violent man of equal intelligence who has physically harmed them (Lecter for Graham, Magneto for Xavier). Both characters are dedicated to saving the lives of others, but occasionally their actions are morally questionable. In terms of their altruism, Will takes care of numerous stray dogs, while Professor X provides shelter and education to runaway mutants. As a bonus, Hugh Dancy looks somewhat like Creator/JamesMcAvoy (both actors are brown-and-wavy-haired, blue-eyed and possess PrettyBoy-like features), so after Series/Hannibals debut, Dancy became a very popular fan casting choice for Brian Xavier should the Film/XMenFilmSeries ever decide to show Charles' father in a flashback.
