* {{Corpsing}}: Creator/WillFerrell, Creator/JohnCReilly, and Creator/MichaelClarkeDuncan can barely hold it together during the scene where Ricky stabs a knife into his own leg. By the end of it, all three are on the verge of breaking character.

* DuelingMovies (or a really funny double feature): With Creator/{{Pixar}}'s ''WesternAnimation/{{Cars}}'', which also features a cocky race car "driver" who's brought down a few notches by a long-lost master in pursuit of a green-colored rival (the only difference being that Girard is a lot better behaved than Chick Hicks).

* CaliforniaDoubling: Some scenes that are supposed to represent Texas Motor Speedway were actually shot at Charlotte Motor Speedway, which shares an identical cookie-cutter track design with Texas, and the walls being repainted to look like such.

** Pastors and theologans have also used the Sweet Baby Jesus prayer scene to launch discussions of how people perceive Jesus in their own ways and the effects of those perceptions

* LifeImitatesArt:
** Five years after the film, A 2011 invocation at the NASCAR race in Nashville by Pastor Joe Nelms was a social media hit after it referenced parts of Ricky's prayer in the film, including detailed thanks to many sponsors and to his "smokin' hot wife" and two sons. https://youtu.be/DuewQlRbR1c
** In 2021 Kurt Busch won the NASCAR race in Atlanta with strategic help from a teammate who was in 21st place and in position to be lapped. Busch acknowledged this in the press conference as “Shake and bake! Yeah, and the 42, he did his job as a teammate”. "Shake and Bake" has also entered the NASCAR commentator vocabulary, occasionally used to describe the drafting maneuvers like the ones used by Ricky and Cal in the film.

* UnintentionalPeriodPiece:
** While still popular in rural areas and parts of the Sun Belt, NASCAR is nowhere as popular nowadays among the general public as it was during the mid-2000s. The rather dismissive attitude towards homosexuals and the French also date it to that period.
** It is implied that the first part of the movie takes place around 1995-1997. This comes from a number of pieces of evidence:
*** The drivers are wearing Winston Cup patches; Winston sponsored the Cup Series from 1971 until 2003 when Nextel took over the Cup sponsorship in 2004.
*** Chevrolet is racing the Monte Carlo, which was used from 1995 replacing the Lumina that had been raced previously.
*** Ford is racing the Thunderbird, which were raced up until 1997 before being replaced with the Taurus in 1998. The later part of the movie takes place in 2005 due to:
*** Dodge Chargers being present but not Fusions or Monte Carlo SS's, which Ford and Chevrolet respectively switched to in 2006; Dodge introduced the Charger in 2005, a year before the road-going model entered dealerships.
*** The movie being filmed in 2005 even though it was released in 2006, so thus featuring cars and drivers from the 2005 Nextel Cup Series season.
** Carley makes an offhand reference to Ricky looking like a Circuit City in his hospital bed. The last store location closed down in 2009, and the brand became completely defunct in 2012. As the years go on, the reference will probably be less and less understood. Recently however the brand came back as an online retailer of electronics.
** While thinking he's on fire, Ricky screams out for Creator/TomCruise to use his witchcraft to help. At the time, Cruise had become particularly outspoken about Scientology and was making headlines with his statements.
