** In "The Medusa Bug", Phong explains that the extended period being TakenForGranite by the Medusa Bug will eventually decompile low energy programs and up to high energy programs, showing an evolutionary chart of sorts displaying the hierarchy (street lamps - binomes - sprites). On the chart is a step between humanoid sprites and binomes of more blocky-looking humanoid form, which was the intended appearance of the main characters before they had the graphical power at what the show was eventually produced at.
** Enzo's design has some assets from Bob's earlier incarnation such as his shoulder pads and red robotic like shoes.
* DevelopmentHell: The show's concept was conceived in the early 80s but due to the underdeveloped CGI and limited technology at the time the show was only seen in concept until the early-90s when the show began development as the desired graphical look and episode producing speed became possible.

* RelationshipVoiceActor: Phil Hayes and Creator/GaryChalk's roles as the BumblingHenchmenDuo Hack and Slash mirror their roles as equally bumbling henchmen Scratch and Grounder in ''WesternAnimation/AdventuresOfSonicTheHedgehog''. This goes up to Chalk specifically voicing the dumber and kinder one, while Hayes voices the ''slightly'' smarter and more devious one. This relationship was broken during Season 2 when Hayes was [[TheOtherDarrin replaced]] by Creator/ScottMcNeil, but ironically, this was also the exact point where the characters pulled a HeelFaceTurn.

** Enzo's existence was due to an executive mandate requiring a child character be added as an AudienceSurrogate. AudienceSurrogate (his name apparently came from one exec saying "Put a little Enzo in there"). Creators Ian Pearson and Gavin Blair hated the child sidekick trope and went from portraying trope, so focused on having Enzo as to hype up how cool Bob is while being a ButtMonkey himself. They found themselves getting attached to making the character and missed him as useful and likeable as possible after CharacterDevelopment.a PlotRelevantAgeUp, so they brought him back as a copy in the third season finale.

* WriterRevolt: Towards the end of Season 2, the show began to become more serialized and less concerned with censorship rules. According to Gavin Blair, this was because the writers knew ABC was intending to drop the show, so they felt they had no reason to play by the network's rules anymore.

* WriterRevolt: Snippy comments about the ExecutiveMeddling can be found throughout the show, specifically the "Broadcast Standards and Practices" acronym BSNP will pop up when they are forced to change something dangerous or violent into something less so (Bob uses a BSNP command on Glitch to phase through a stain glass window rather than [[SoftGlass crash through it]], Enzo finds a {{BFG}} but it fires a rubber raft with a BSNP label). Towards the end of Season 2, 2 the show began to become more serialized and less concerned with censorship rules. * NamesTheSame:
** Dot Matrix isn't the same Dot Matrix from ''Film/{{Spaceballs}}'', though they are both named after the dot matrix printers of old. Also, Dot shares the same name of a character from another hit show from 1993 called ''WesternAnimation/{{Animaniacs}}''.
** Bob shares the same name of another Computer Generated Character from [[WesternAnimation/VeggieTales another CGI show]].
** The giant purplish game cubes that came down on the city has the same name as a [[UsefulNotes/NintendoGameCube Nintendo console]] released 7 years after the show debuted.

* WhatCouldHaveBeen:
** The show went through a lot of changes in development because of the improvement of technology at the time and other reasons as you can see in this pitch pilot and promo video.
*** [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4rV87Um09Jw/ In this early promo test animation from 1990]], the show was [[MidDevelopmentGenreShift more of a wacky comedy than a (soon to be) dramatic comedy]]. The characters spoke in technojargon more casually. Bob's name was Chip in early development and he had a more robotic design. Mainframe was a generic motherboard instead of a cyber city inside of a computer. Megabyte had a Chicago accent and was a less intimidating villain before Tony Jay was cast and he was legless. Viruses were only referred to as "Bad Data". Megabyte had a partner named Hacker who looked like Frankenstein's Monster, he eventually evolved into Hack and Slash.
*** [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-sU-QWoUt94/ In this pitch pilot from 1992]], the show was going to have a more stylised look (as you can see in [[http://vignette4.wikia.nocookie.net/reboot/images/3/36/Reboot_earlycover.jpg/revision/latest?cb=20080604205850/ this concept poster]]), and was going to have more slapstick humor. The sprites looked more human in appearance with human skin colors, which was changed to not confuse audiences into thinking the show took place in the future. Bob was not a guardian but instead a Game Champion (all though some of his dialog may possibly imply that he was a person from the real world who got sucked into the computer world). Dot was originally going to be a "ditsy waitress," but that idea was soon scrapped. Dot's Diner was originally called The Chip n' Sip Diner. Binomes were referred to as 1's and 0's and were more seen as construction workers. Most notably, the sprites possibly were helping the User beat the game, instead of going against the User; also, the Games were not seen as fatal to their world if the User wins-- in fact, it seems like they were a pastime for the characters (or possibly seen as fatal if the user loses), as opposed to a giant purple cube that randomly lands in random areas of Mainframe.
*** [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0Izl3PPQeZM This Third Video Promo]] of the series has Bob with a much more less detailed version of his final appearance in the show and a Hexadecimal also having a more simplistic version of her final appearance and her pet Scussy having a more monster-ist appearance, Enzo has a slightly younger and bulkier look. The promo even maintains the same logo design from the previous promo.
*** At one point early in production, All the characters were going to be binomes but this idea was scrapped when they had the graphical power to make semi-organic human forms.
** The original plans for season 4 was to make 3 TV Movies broken up into 12 parts capped off by a 13th musical epilogue but due to budgetary reasons, the season was reduced to 2 TV Movies broken up into 8 parts leaving the show on a cliffhanger, With some bonus scenes cut entirely.
** There was going to be a [[http://reboot.wikia.com/wiki/Binomes_series pre-school spinoff]] series based around the Binomes, but the idea was ultimately scrapped.

** It should be mentioned that the scene in "Talent Night" that would have had Dot kiss Enzo on the cheek ''did'' feature her, dressed as a vampy night-club singer, singing a breathy torch song to her ''little brother.'' Throughout the scene, Enzo and Bob stare at her like they've never seen a girl before. It's almost as if, not being allowed to have Dot simply give Enzo a sisterly kiss on the cheek, they wanted to see how far thy could push things so long as she ''didn't'' kiss him.
