Added DiffLines:

* DyeingForYourArt: A notable aversion with Wentworth Miller, who opted not to work out prior to taking the role of Michael because he saw the character as a BadassBookworm, not an ActionHero. It worked in the character's favor, as his slightly scrawny physique in the first season helped him seem more out of place in the prison and fit more with his background as a structural engineer.

Added DiffLines:

* MeanCharacterNiceActor: T-Bag is an extremely depraved character, but by all accounts Robert Knepper is not.

Added DiffLines:

* RealLifeWritesThePlot: Sarah Wayne Callies was pregnant at the beginning of season three, so the writers attempted to plot around her maternity leave. Fox refused to sign off on the proposed plotline, forcing the writers to redo everything and their new season arc ended up involving Sarah/Sara's death. Callies' refused to return to work just to be killed off so her scenes were shot with a body-double and her death in the fourth episode occurred off-screen. Didn't stop them from bringing her back from the dead in season four though.

* CaliforniaDoubling: Averted with season 1, which was actually shot in Illinois -- the scenes at Fox River were shot in Joliet Correctional Center, which was an active prison from 1858 to 2002.
** Played straight with seasons two and three, as production as moved to Texas, which played the part of ''everywhere'' in the USA, as well as Panama. A few scenes were also filmed in Florida.
