* DevelopmentGag: When Macaulay Culkin backs out of the Christmas production in It's a Wonderful Home Alone, John steps up and says he'll do the part, he'll play Culkin in a blonde wig shot only from the back and they'll pretend it's him. This is ''exactly'' what appears to have happened in the three or so frames "Culkin" was visible towards the beginning of the episode. This also happens directly after the CreatorInJoke of Culkin backing out of Celebrity You Guessed It.

* ScrewedByTheNetwork: FOX had a lot of faith in Mulaney at first, bumping the original episode order up from 6 to 16. Then it aired, and the bad reviews flooded in. The second episode did get better ratings and better reviews [[labelnote:*]]Granted, one reviewer noted it was because he thought the pilot was so dreadful that ANYTHING would be an improvement[[/labelnote]], but it was too little, too late. After episode 3 aired, FOX cut the episodes order from 16 to 13 and moved the show to a worse time slot, where it was subject to multiple pre-emptions.

FOX only changed the number of episodes ordered twice; 6 to 16, then to 13. Changing the episode order didn\'t matter too much; there wasn\'t much continuity to speak of. Frankly, I don\'t think it was screwed at all...the issue wasn\'t the timeslot, it was that the show sucks...but I kept it and added some extra info nonetheless.

* ScrewedByTheNetwork: From the get-go, the series had its number of episodes ordered changed multiple times and was aired in a random order. After the show started underperforming, FOX cut the episodes ordered and moved the show to a worse time slot... where more often than not, it got pre-empted by a football game.

It does. The first changes in ordered episodes and the out of order airing occurred before the show began, and even if a show is the worst thing on the planet that gets awful ratings, it\'s still Screwed By The Network, regardless of whether the screwing is justified or not.

The more I think about it, the less Screwed By The Network fits. It got really good treatment before the bad ratings and reviews came in.

* RecycledScript: The stand up segments use jokes from John Mulaney's ''New In Town'' act almost verbatim, and many of the jokes on the show are adaptations of jokes from the act, sometimes awkwardly added to conversation.
