* BudgetBustingElement: It is estimated that approximately one-fifth of the films $25 million budget was spent on the originally filmed DownerEnding where [[TheBadGuyWins the Audrey II plants take over New York]], a sequence that makes heavy use of elaborate puppetry and miniature effects. The scene was cut and replaced with a happier ending after negative test screenings.

** Interestingly, the screenplay of the movie that is available contains a slightly different ending to the movie from the two that actually exist. The screenplay is largely the same up until just after Audrey's death and Patrick Martin's offer. The fight between Audrey 2 and Seymour occurs (to the cut song from the stage show "Bad" in the script as "Mean Green Mother" likely hadn't been written) but after the plant brings the shop down, Seymour crawls out of the rubble and runs away yelling that he'll warn the world about the plants. Seymour is then present in "Don't Feed The Plants" first seen slapping the plants out of customers hands, before being seen running with a crowd as Audrey 2 rampages across the city.
