* TheCharacterDiedWithHim:
** Marcus Brody did not appear in the film due to Creator/DenholmElliott's death in 1992. A statue honoring Brody, on the Marshall College's grounds, is shown, and the character's death was written into the movie with the death of the actor. Indy also has a picture of him on his desk, showing Brody during ''Film/IndianaJonesAndTheLastCrusade'' (in a moment when he was lost so how the picture was taken is a bit of a mystery).
** Zig-Zagged with Creator/SeanConnery. Henry Jones was said to have passed away in ''Crystal Skull'' as well—Indy also having a picture of him on his desk—but Connery was only retired at the time. There'd been talks about hoping to convince Connery to return—and for Henry to be FakingTheDead—for the next movie for years, but then he passed away in 2020 at the age of 90. That put the idea of Henry showing up alive in ''Film/IndianaJonesAndTheDialOfDestiny'' to rest almost immediately.

It wasn't for Dial of Destiny specifically, it was for the fifth movie in general.

** Henry Jones is said to have passed away in this film, with Indy having a picture of him on his desk to hammer it in. Although Creator/SeanConnery was only retired at the time, he would never portray Henry again before passing away in 2020 at the age of 90.
