** Characters like Katalina and Vaseraga having capes or other flowing accessories in their designs was a notable hurdle to jump over, to the point where they were considering simplifying the designs for gameplay, but they ultimately decided to stick as faithfully as possible to the original artwork for the fans.
** Lowain's entire moveset has been described as an indisputable labor of love by Creator/ArcSystemWorks for going above and beyond with a character idea that was originally just being able to use Yggdrasil as an add-on to Lowain's gameplay. It's been noted by the animators that Lowain's animations are far and away some of the most unique and fun that this game has to offer with their sheer variance. They even have an entirely unique environment with the cafe table which only appears ''just for their win screen''.

* AuthorsSavingThrow: After no announcement was made for rollback netcode at EVO 2022 when most other games got rollback announcements, many players lost hope that the game would ever see an update. In January 2023, Cygames announced an update for the game...in the form of a sequel: ''Granblue Fantasy Versus: Rising''. One that would finally allow for not only rollback implementation, but also crossplay.

** The reveals for Lowain, Percival, Metera, Zeta and Vaseraga are already expected by the fans ever since the first trailer because the official title artwork contains their unlocking weapons from the gacha, itself is a big {{Foreshadowing}} for the base roster. {{Averted}} with Ladiva (who counts as an UnexpectedCharacter) because her weapon is nowhere in that logo.

* ThrowItIn: The weapon skin feature was added after they realized they could give Lancelot's sword to Gran for fun, which the developers found to be really neat and decided to expand it into a full-fledged feature for all eleven fighters.

*** Unlike the [=PS4=] version, this game's Steam version will not have the bonus codes that can be redeemed for items in the ''Granblue'' gacha game. As of this writing, there wasn't any official statement from Cygames, nor the publishers, justifying the absence of the codes.
*** Though an interview with Tetsuya Fukuhara said that Sony was instrumental in developing the bonus code system. A reason perhaps to why it is exclusive to [=PS4=].

* DuelingWorks: With ''VideoGame/SamuraiShodown'', specifically the 2019 installment. Both games are grounded, slow-paced fighters compared to the more chaotic "anime" style that's become popular in recent years. Came to a head when this game's beta and the demo for ''[=SamSho=]'' fell on the same date in late May 2019. Even if ''Granblue Versus'' got released a year later, there's still some minor arguments or comparisons between the games (although not in FandomRivalry levels), such as the fact that while ''[=SamSho=]'' came first than ''GBVS'', it's ''GBVS'' that received a UsefulNotes/{{Steam}} port on PC first on March 13, 2020. A week later on the same month, ''Samurai Shodown'' also received a PC port, but on the Epic Games Store instead. Comparisons between the PC platforms were inevitable, as well as the gap between each games' initial [=PS4=] release dates and PC announcement dates (1 month for ''GBVS'', while 9 months for ''[=SamSho=]'').

Specifically, these are some of the characters' nicknames, old or new from the players of this game:
** Gran:
*** "Ryu" - Putting emphasis on Gran's {{Shotoclone}} status as a fighting game character and his protagonist role in the ''Granblue'' franchise. Put them together and add the idea that this game is [[InspirationForTheWork inspired]] by ''Street Fighter'', and you'll have fans comparing to, or simply calling Gran as the Ryu counterpart of this game.
*** "Timbs" - Coined after the "Gran Boot Fantasy" [[MemeticMutation meme]] started when fans joked about one of Gran's flying kick moves. Photo edits of Gran wearing Timberland Boots were common to the point that he gets called just by a shoe brand.
** Charlotta:
*** "Box Potato", "Potato" - Since the [[Characters/GranblueFantasyHarvins Harvins]] are a race of LittlePeople, the potato is commonly used by English ''Granblue'' fans to describe how small they are. It later turned into an AscendedMeme where an in-game event outright calls Charlotta a "thoroughly-baked potato" in the official English localization.
*** "Saber", "Excalibur" - An existing nickname for her since she's basically an {{Expy}} of Saber from ''VisualNovel/FateStayNight'' if her appearance, default color theme and LimitBreak are any indications.
*** "The Demon", "Demon Loli", "Akuma Loli", "Loli Honda" - When fighting game fans [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EZ0ovTUTVTY found out]] that Charlotta has a MovesetClone from Akuma and E. Honda from ''Franchise/StreetFighter'', they naturally went with these characters' names instead of her own.
*** "Moonlight Greatsword" - From pointing out how her default weapon (Claiomh Solais) resembles the iconic blue weapon from ''VideoGame/DarkSouls''.
** Ferry
*** "Armpits", "Pits" - Due to how official in-game artworks and even fanartists tend to focus that [[{{Fanservice}} specific body part]] when they include Ferry.
*** "Updog" - Ferry's "dragon punch" attack has her send Beppo to attack at a vertical angle.
*** "Dhalsim" - From comparisons made to a ''Street Fighter'' character, since both Ferry (who has a whip) and Dhalsim (who can extend his body parts) have very long-ranged melee attacks that can be whiff-punished.
** Katalina
*** "Silver Chariot" from those who compare Ares to a Stand from ''Manga/JoJosBizarreAdventure'', specifically, Jean-Pierre Polnareff's own, due to visual similarities.
** Lowain
*** "Music/LilWayne" - The UsefulNotes/FightingGameCommunity (initially from the African-American/Hispanic side, but has expanded to most ''GBVS'' players from the FGC as well) intentionally call Lowain as this, due to how his name sounds similar to the rapper.
*** "Bros.", "Brofamily" - A collective term for the trio, also coming from the mobile game where some story events [[InSeriesNickname outright call them that nickname]].
*** "Yggdrasil Main", "Yugu Main" - Somehow crosses as a [[MemeticMutation meme phrase]] used to poke fun at how Lowain's most definitive gimmick lies in his Super Skybound Art, which is to summon Yggdrasil and make her take his place temporarily.
*** "Scrub Killer" - (Un)fortunately, [[LethalJokeCharacter Yggdrasil]] has been named as this by the UsefulNotes/FightingGameCommunity because her moves are devastating and can manipulate the stage, that non-experienced players are more likely be taking damage to the face or via massive [[ScratchDamage chip damage]] in just a short amount of time. Emphasis on "scrub" because it takes practice to counter her, and she becomes less effective at high-level plays, where she can be anticipated or her moves be spot-dodged.
*** "Bros Install", "Waifu Install" - Both of Lowain's Supers are "Install" Supers (ones that allow you to enter a SuperMode upon activation), with each of them involving assistance from his bros, and them summoning the very female Yggdrasil, respectively.
** Metera
*** "Zoner Thot" - A combination of her "Zoner"/ranged fighting game archetype and her HeroicSeductress trope.
** Beelzebub
*** "[[spoiler:Diavolo]]" - Since Beelzebub's [[Creator/KatsuyukiKonishi voice actor]] also played as The Boss/[[spoiler:Diavolo]] in ''Manga/JojosBizarreAdventureVentoAureo'', anime fans quickly recognized the similar voice, and began calling Beelzebub by this.
*** "Bubs" - Coming from his InSeriesNickname even in the gacha game, a nickname which Belial calls him.
** Narmaya
*** "Vergil", "Vergirl", "Waifu Vergil", "Vergil's Wife", "Nero's Mom" - Some of the humorous names spawned from the [[MemeticMutation Motivated]] memes comparing Narmaya to Vergil from the ''VideoGame/DevilMayCry'' series, mostly (and simply) due to their similar trope of being an IaijutsuPractitioner, but the ''DMC'' memes and comparisons unexpectedly blew from that.
** Soriz
*** "Fundoshi Install", "SOIYA Install" - A nickname for Macho Ultimatum, his Super Skybound Art, where he destroys his clothing and fights only in a fundoshi with a GoldenSuperMode similar to [[Franchise/BlazBlue Bang Shishigami]].
** Djeeta
*** "Ken" - There was quite a confusion or mixed reception when Djeeta's teaser was revealed on the 6th Anniversary Livestream, showing some of her moves to be similar to Gran's. While it was just a teaser and not much of her entire moveset was known at that time, players easily speculated if Djeeta would be a MovesetClone of a {{Shotoclone}} in one game, comparing her to Ken from the ''Franchise/StreetFighter'' franchise in contrast to Gran's comparisons with Ryu and the FanNickname derived from it.
*** "Sakura" - When people realized that her moveset was very similar to Sakura's.
** Zooey
*** "Chocolate Waifu", "Ramlethal" - Fans putting an emphasis on her DarkSkinnedBlond trope. Sometimes, she also gets compared to other dark-skinned fighting game characters, commonly Ramlethal Valentine from ''VideoGame/GuiltyGear'', since this game is also developed by Arc System Works, and Zooey's setplay-heavy playstyle feels reminiscient of Ramlethal's as well.
*** "Daenerys" - Coming from newcomers who aren't well-versed in ''Granblue'' lore, whose first impression of Zooey (from her Teaser Trailer) is that she is accompanied by dragons, thus comparing her to the Mother of Dragons, Daenerys Targaryen from ''Series/GameOfThrones''.
*** "Zooey Badgirl", "Grand Order Sol" - It was quickly discovered that Zooey's moveset has many parallels to that of ''VideoGame/GuiltyGear'' protagonist Sol Badguy, as well as his past counterpart Holy Order-Sol.
*** "Dustloop" - Her jumping Unique attack is the exact same as Sol's jumping Dust attack, which is notable for being able to loop into itself with good timing and the opponent being at the proper aerial height, quickly becoming one of Sol's signature combos and techniques.

*** "Diavolo" - Since Beelzebub's [[Creator/KatsuyukiKonishi voice actor]] also played as Diavolo in ''Manga/JojosBizarreAdventureVentoAureo'', anime fans quickly recognized the similar voice, and began calling Beelzebub by this.

*** "Dustloop" - Her jumping Unique attack is the exact same as Sol'd jumping Dust attack, which is notable for being able to loop into itself with the proper timing, quickly becoming one of the characters signature combos and techniques.
