Technically, [[spoiler:Akito]] counts too, in both English and Japanese... but this could not even be anticipated, as the anime was made years before the revelation that he is a she. Averted with Yuki and Ritsu in the 2019 anime, where they're voiced by male voice actors.

Her hand injury isn't the reason why the first anime ended the way it did. The hand injury occurred while she was working on volume 6 which came out in August 2000 while the anime didn't air until July 2001 in Japan. I'm guessing it ended the way it did because there just wasn't enough material that the company could adapt

* OvertookTheManga: Barely averted. Because of Natsuki Takaya's hand injury necessitating a leave of absence from the series, the 2001 anime would have done this had it continued any longer than it did. Even without overtaking the manga, the anime added an improvised ending that would later [[DisContinuity be contradicted by revelations in the manga]] (namely almost ''everything'' about Akito).
