* WhatCouldHaveBeen: "The Sixty-Two Curses of Caliph Arenschadd" was originally commissioned for Jane Yolen and Martin H. Greenberg's 1988 anthology ''Werewolves''. Yolen felt the story was a good one, but had to turn it down for that publication because, as she explained, the anthology had taken a darker tone and a humorous story just wouldn't fit. It took another five years before it was finally published in Micheal Stearns' 1993 anthology ''A Wizard's Dozen''.
