* SpellMyNameWithAnS:
** The subtitles and the Canadian dub render the name of the robot with the radar inside it as Gill, while Funimation went with Giru.
** The subtitles and the Canadian dub say "Evil Dragons", but Funimation's dub says "Shadow Dragons".
** When ''GT'' was being dubbed in English, all the TV edits of the uncut dubs, and the TV-only dubs had censored "Hell" to "HFIL", or "Home For Infinite Losers". The Canadian dub of ''GT'' instead elected to call it "Hades" or "The Underworld".
** The Canadian dub also began spelling Oob's name the same way as it's rendered in the subtitles and the manga, in contrast to Funimation's dub, and the Canadian dub of Z, which had both spelled his name as "Uub". Boo's name is never shown on-screen, but it's reasonable to infer that they also switched over to "Boo" in their scripts, in the same manner.

** It is heavily implied that Redjic([[SpellMyNameWithAnS AKA: Legic, AKA: Lezick]]) was originally supposed to make future appearances.

* BTeamSequel: Although he did some minor consulting and character design work, Creator/AkiraToriyama largely left the show in other hands.
** With the newer SequelSeries ''Anime/DragonballSuper'' being a Toriyama-headed Dragon Ball series for the first time in almost two decades, and completley disregarding everything ''GT'' did, the two are considered [[AlternateContinuity Alternate Continuities]] to each other.

* BTeamSequel: Although he did some minor consulting all the initial designs, consulted on the episode storylines, and character design work, was present during all the meetings determining the scenario and setup of the series, once the show got going, Creator/AkiraToriyama largely left the show in other hands.

* FranchiseZombie: Some would say that ''Z'' already had shown signs of this, and that they should have just stopped it at the Buu arc like in the manga. Others argue that ''GT'' averted this by taking a vastly different approach to telling a Dragon Ball story. Detractors argue that while it did take a different approach, it didn't work.

** The Super 17 Saga and the villains escaping from hell could be seen as a retake of the ''Anime/DragonBallZFusionReborn'' movie.
** The story of Zoonama, a minor villain from episodes 7 and 8, is a repeat of Oolong's origin story from the original ''Dragon Ball''.
** The lead up to Baby is very similar to the 1993 video game, ''Dragon Ball Z: The Plan To Eradicate The Saiyans'', about an evil alien scientist with a vendetta against the Saiyans for killing the Tuffles who created a fearsome monster to destroy the remaining Saiyans. In addition, Baby taking over the Earth by possessing all of Goku's friends and turning them against him is somewhat similar to the setup of the Garlic Jr. story arc.
** The final fight against Baby could be seen as a fusion of Goku's fights against Vegeta and Freeza. Goku reaching a new form of Super Saiyan and utterly curb stomping Baby is similar to when Goku went Super Saiyan against Freeza. Even Goku's darker personality is a CallBack to that battle, and Baby turning into a giant ape to fight Goku because he's outclassed, is like what Vegeta did in his battle against Goku.
** Goku and Vegeta's fusion breaking before they can kill Omega Shenron because the power output of a Super Saiyan 4 shorted the fusion time is just like what happened to Gotenks in his battle against Super Buu. His fusion broke early because of the power drain of Super Saiyan 3. [[spoiler:[[HilariousInHindsight It happened again with Vegetto later]] in ''Anime/DragonBallSuper'']].
** Goku killing the final BigBad with giant Spirit Bomb is like the finale of ''Dragon Ball Z'' where Goku kills Majin Buu with a giant Spirit Bomb.

* With the newer SequelSeries ''Anime/DragonballSuper'' completley disregarding everything ''GT'' did, the two are generally considered [[AlternateContinuity Alternate Continuities]] to each other. One could take this a step further and say that the filler from ''Dragon Ball Z'' -- or at least, the filler that wasn't in ''Dragon Ball Z Kai'' -- also take place in ''GT's'' continuity, cleanly dividing the timelines as splitting after the original ''Dragon Ball'' series into ''Z'' then ''GT'', or ''Kai'' then ''Super''.

The new SequelSeries ''Anime/DragonballSuper'', the first Toriyama-headed Dragonball series in almost two decades, is expected to officially RetCon GT into CanonDisContinuity.
* CelebrityVoiceActor: In Creator/FUNimation's dub of ''A Hero's Legacy'', one of the demons is played by Peter Mayhew, the guy who plays Chewbacca in ''Franchise/StarWars''.
* FanNickname: Dragon Ball: Goku Time. Named for GT Goku's rather large SpotlightStealingSquad in this anime.
* NonSingingVoice: Zig-Zagged with Bon Para in the Funimation Dub. In ''Dance and Attack'', his singing (technically rapping) voice was provided by another actor (who was credited as playing "DJ Para"), but his speaking actor, Brad Jackson, did his own singing in subsequent episodes.
