* CreativeDifferences: After ''The Graduate'', Mike Nichols offered parts to both Simon and Garfunkel in his next film, ''Catch 22''. Simon's part got cut from the screenplay, so with Simon's blessing, Garfunkel went off and did the movie while Simon continued work on the album. After filming was done (which took longer than expected), Simon found out that Garfunkel had accepted a part in Nichols' next film, ''Carnal Knowledge''. When confronted, Garfunkel said he didn't tell Simon because he was worried progress on the album would stop. Considering the two were already having disagreements about their musical direction anyway, Simon felt it was best they go their separate ways after the album was completed.
