* PlayingAgainstType: In Japanese cinema, Ken Takakura was well known for regularly playing Yakuzas, while Yûsaku Matsuda was well known for regularly playing detectives. Here, Takakura plays a cop and Matsuda plays a Yakuza.

* HeyItsThatPlace: The exterior of Sugai's house was the Ennis-Brown House, which is situated at 2655 Glendower Avenue, Los Feliz in Los Angeles, California. Creator/RidleyScott had previously used the dwelling for Deckard's apartment complex in ''Film/BladeRunner''.

* ActorInspiredElement: The scene where Charlie sings on stage at the night-club with Masahiro was not in the script. Andy Garcia conceived the scene to add extra emotional involvement to his character, before he is brutally murdered in the following scene.
* CaliforniaDoubling: Because the production's work visa in Japan ran out, the climactic farm scenes were filmed in Napa Valley, California. According to Ridley Scott, the work visa complications came about due to Japanese bureaucracy. * SameLanguageDub: The Japanese dub of the film is notable for being one of the few ones when this trope is mostly avoided, and for understandable reasons: Normally in Japan, when a Japanese actor or actors participate in a foreign film speaking in Japanese (or whatever language they were speaking in the original film) and when that film is brought to Japan, the actors themselves reprise those roles again in the dubbed version. In this film, due of the deaths of Yusaku Matsuda (Sato) and Tomisaburo Wakayama (Sugai), their roles were voiced by different voice actors. Oddly enough, in the Fuji TV version of the film, Sato's voice remains unchanged from the original English version, while in the DVD release, he was dubbed instead.
