** In one episode, Steve sings Scott Grimes' hit song, Sunset Blvd. He also says that two movies Scott Grimes was in, Critters and Critters 2, are crappy.

* TheOtherDarrin: Reggie the TheOtherDarrin:
** Reginald
Koala's voice actor changed between the season four episode for his first two appearances in "Family Affair" and "Wife Insurance" and again in season five. The voices don't sound alike at all.was done by Donald Fullilove of Back to the Future fame. But starting with "The Return of the Bling", he's now voiced by show writer Erik Durbin.

** Coach Keegan was voiced by Dee Bradley Baker in "The Wrestler" & "Naked to the Limit, One More Time". But in "Introducing the Naughty Stewardesses", he's voiced by Kyle Chandler.

** Steve also had a different design (read: he was really skinny and awkward-looking), and was going to voiced by WesternAnimation/FamilyGuy writer Ricky Blitt. This design can be seen on an early trailer for the show on the Family Guy: Freakin' Sweet Collection DVD.

** An idea for a plot was proposed that Debbie would become skinny which resulted in Steve losing interest in her. Said idea ultimately never came to be likely due to one of the showrunners admitting that he thought the very idea of Debbie being seen as skinny would've felt like a betrayal to her character.
** A subplot was originally conceived for the Season 4 episode "Escape from Pearl Bailey" where Francine buys Roger his very own star. It was completely removed when the writers ended up making the main plot the only story of the episode and in turn made this the only episode to date where Roger doesn't speak.

* ChannelHop: Because of low ratings and FOX's plans to revamp their Sunday night line-up with live-action shows (Series/BrooklynNineNinethough that show has been moved to Tuesday nights and has been replaced with Cooper Barrett's Guide to Life and The Last Man on Earthoriginally, the sitcom Mulaney was there, but it was such a critical and rating failure that it's been canceled) alongside the CashCowFranchise animated shows they still have (WesternAnimation/TheSimpsonsthough the show's future as of its 27th season is looking a little hazy due to contractual negotiations, falling ratings, and belated renewals, though it has been renewed for 44 episodes -- which sounds like a lot, but is really just two seasons [seasons 27 and 28] and WesternAnimation/FamilyGuy), the vastly underrated WesternAnimation/BobsBurgerswhich actually has a loyal viewership and critical acclaim, even if the ratings aren't spectacular, and the new show Bordertownwhich got a lot of negative reviews, but is doing well enough in the ratings for a second season, American Dad moved to TBS in late 2014. Initially, it was going to end its run there by airing a handful of episodes that FOX never did, but has recently been renewed for another season with new episodes being made.

* HeyItsThatVoice:
** The obvious one: Stan's boss is Captain Picard!
*** In Germany, Stan is voiced by Commander Riker...
** It's a testament to Seth [=MacFarlane=]'s vocal talents that his voice doesn't leap out at you as much in this series (or WesternAnimation/TheClevelandShow, as [=MacFarlane=] only voiced Tim the Bear and Dr. Fistwho were later replaced with JessHarnell and Bryan Cranston, respectively). Most viewers can figure out that Seth voices Stan (since the voice of Stan has been used on WesternAnimation/FamilyGuy in a couple of parodies of 1950s educational short films, like the one on "I Am Peter, Hear Me Roar" about how men should treat women in the workplace [which includes a lot of emotional manipulation and sexual harassment, as this is the 1950s]), but a surprisingly large number of people aren't aware he voices Roger the alienthough, if you watch both this show and WesternAnimation/FamilyGuy long enough, you can sort of tell that Seth voices Roger because Roger's crying sounds exactly like Peter Griffin's. On top of that, Seth actually broke out his Roger voice during his monologue on Series/SaturdayNightLive and a DVD-exclusive special on how American Dad was created and the table read for the second episode "Threat Levels" and Greg the newscaster.
** Hayley is voiced by Rachael [=MacFarlane=], Seth's younger sister, which leads to a lot of incestuous undertones as both Seth and Rachel have played characters who get romantically involved (Stewie Griffin and Olivia; a couple episodes of American Dad have had references to Hayley being romantically involved with her father -- in "Francine's Flashback," Stan's plan of revenge after Hayley's boyfriend runs off with Francine is for Stan and Hayley to date each other [until Stan realizes that he didn't think the plan through], and "Pulling Double Booty" was all about Hayley dating a man who actually looks like Stan).
** Phoebe Buffay is a Christmas Spirit in one episode.
** Spottswoode is Stan's dad, Jack.
** "An Apocalypse to Remember" has Roger trying to get married to a Jewish woman; the father of the woman is Ron Stoppable's dad (Elliot Gould)
** It's funny to see that Joan Holloway Harris ended up with a trailer and a bunch of kids by the time she was dating Roger.
** Dr. Cuddy plays mountain man Buckle's incredibly Jewish wife Shari.
** Sarevok took a break from trying to be a god to work as the principal at Steve's school.
** Creator/DeeBradleyBaker is Klaus.
** The first voice actress for Toshi's sister Akiko (GreyDeLisle) played Lizzie on WesternAnimation/CodenameKidsNextDoor.
*** The second actress is Grace Park.
** Jon Kavanaugh apparently moonlights as a series of detectives in Langley Falls all named Turlington.
** Ethan from "Iced, Iced Babies" (the episode where Francine wants to have another baby and Hayley has a crush on a guy from her class) is Frodo.
** Hot-to-trot but slightly crazy (and not only because she wants to have sex with Steve) Ashley in "Stan's Food Restaurant" is Kairi.
** In addition to Kairi, Steve's love interests have included Amy Burley (the closest thing he's had to a regular girlfriend), Kitty Katswell (who later becomes Kono Kalakaua), Emily Prentiss, Effie Trinket, Makemba Likasu, Dakota Block, Carrie Hopewell, Buffy Summers and Willow Rosenberg.
** In France and Hungary, Hayley and Steve are respectively Stacy Hirano and Fez.
*** Also in Hungary, Hayley and Jeff are Wendy and Dipper. In turn, Roger (later Stan Smith) is Discord.
** Mary Jo Catlett, the voice of WesternAnimation/SpongeBobSquarePants character Mrs. Puff, voices the owner of a gift shop in the episode "American Dream Factory".
