* Downplayed in VideoGame/HorizonZeroDawn. Rost puts Aloy through thirteen years of grueling training (at Aloy's request) to ensure she could not only complete, but outright win the Proving. We don't see a lot of the training outside of a TrainingMontage, but it included the mantra "survival requires perfection". This training, along with Aloy's mastery of her Focus, is key to why Aloy is such a deadly huntress and fighter.

* In VideoGame/EveOnline, it's noted that the training required to become a capsuleer in-universe has a staggering 99.997% failure rate, with 86% of applicants failing outright due to not meeting the physical and mental prerequesites to even begin. For the 14% that remain, only 5% of that number will actually make it through the five grueling years of physical and mental training required to graduate; as any aspirant that falls short of being perfect washes out. Even then, many aspirants that survive training end up washing out regardless as the final test is voluntary euthanasia to get them used to the fact that they're functionally immortal.

** According to the codex, to even get into the N-Program, candidates have to train for 20 hours per day, leading small combat teams through hostile terrain, with little sleep or food. The training is so grueling and extreme that even getting accepted for training in the N-Program earns a soldier massive respect, even if they wash out at N1 level. Anderson reveals that N1 training, for instance, has the recruit dropped on an asteroid with no navigation data, no radio equipment, no food or water and only a limited amount of oxygen, with no objective other than "survive". N2 through 5 get even worse (and if you wash out in N5 training, you're then a N4), while N6 is conducted in active warzones. Out of the few who made it to N6, only those who've proven exceptional in the field, are finally awarded the coveted N7 designation. It goes without saying, Anderson and Shepard both graduated training with this rank. In VideoGame/MassEffect3, Kai Leng and Captain Riley are also both [=N7s=], and Vega is accepted into the training program.

** The "12 year Favor". Simply put, place a dwarf child in a pit with 12 years worth of both food and feral dogs. If said child survives, produce super-dwarvenly tough and super soldiers for instant conscription into the dwarven army.

** In VideoGame/FinalFantasyXIV, the Warrior of Light shares their training regimen with the monks of the Fist of Rhalgr in the Monk questline. This includes ten-thousand reps of Bootshine to hone their swiftness, ten hours of doing nothing but Arm of the Destroyer to increase their strength, and using Fists of Earth ten-thousand times to bolster their endurance. While the Warrior does this often enough to make it look like a light warmup, the hardened monks are utterly winded by the experience.
--->Widargelt: [wheezing between gasps for air] Such brutal training... small wonder you're so strong...
