* MurderArsonAndJaywalking: As in the original novel, the kids' crimes are: Eating too much, being spoilt, watching too much television...and chewing gum, in Violet's case. With this in mind, this version's Violet is also a ShamelessSelfPromoter and SmallNameBigEgo, with her and her StageDad parlaying her non-talent into a lucrative entertainment career. As well, Mike Teavee's fixation on electronics turns out to stem from his mother's desperation to keep him out of much worse trouble -- since when he ''isn't'' playing video games, etc. he's pulling such stunts as setting a cat on fire and stealing a German tank.
