Moments pages are Spoilers Off

* [[spoiler: With the death of Mako, Jake is now the last surviving Pentecost. Raleigh, status unknown, is also left without his beloved friend and co-pilot.]]
** [[spoiler:It has been confirmed that Raleigh died sometime after the first film, due to being exposed to the strange energies in the Precursor dimension.]]
** [[spoiler: When Mako's helicopter got hit by Obsidian Fury, Jake in desperation tries to catch it with Gipsy Avenger's hand he controls... Only to miss and the helicopter crash landed, killing Mako. Poor Jake was devastated of his adopted sister's demise despite their strained relationship.]]
* In a way, [[spoiler:[[BrainwashedAndCrazy what happens to Newt.]] The quirky scientist who despite having an unhealthy obsession with Kaiju is ultimately on the side of humans and is instrumental in bringing the Precursors down in the first movie. However, his continuous drifting with a Kaiju brain leads to the Precursors possessing him and forcing him to turn on humanity. This leads to the death of Mako Mori, his former ally, and almost undoing all of PDCC's previous works to stop the Kaiju ten years ago. Even Gottlieb, his best friend, who pleas for him to snap back fails to break him out of the Precursors' control.]]
** There's one really notable bit during [[spoiler:Gottleib's confrontation with Newt, where Newt has him by the throat while Gottleib tries an IKnowYoureInThereSomewhereFight - just for a second Newt stops his ranting and simply says "They're in my head" while looking like he's about to start crying (DVD extras have revealed that they shot some takes where Newt actually had tears streaming down his face, but they were apparently unusable for continuity reasons). It's genuinely quite heartwrenching to see the real Newt is still in there and knows on some level that what's happening is wrong, but is so thoroughly dominated by the Precursors he's unable to break their hold.]]
* [[spoiler: Suresh's death.]] At the end of the day, he is just a kid, the level of a high-school student, being killed in action against a war. The shot where his dead hand is seen sticking out of the wreckage is rather awful to see, and it drives in the cost of this war, as well as the heartbreaking idea that the Jaeger pilots are just ChildSoldiers.
* A bit of sympathy for the villain, but the Mega Kaiju itself in a way. The three kaiju that formed it were torturously sliced apart and stitched together by [[spoiler: Newt]], and the resulting creature is just an agonized monstrosity that borders on a DeathSeeker, whether it completes its mission or not.
* Jake had a very strained and sad relationship with his father. Jake could never live up to his father's standards, while constantly being upstaged by his adopted sister Mako, causing his father to favor her over him. This eventually got to be too much, causing Jake to runaway.
