She's realizing the Mane 5 are the kinds of friends Tempest needed in her childhood, and she did not treasure their friendship.

** Twilight's [[MyGodWhatHaveIDone silent, horrified expression]] the moment the words leave her mouth, followed by her crying inconsolably after getting left behind.

* How about we start off with the fact that within the first 10 or so minutes of the film, Tempest Shadow [[TakenForGranite turns three of the four princesses to stone]]?

* Cadance getting petrified and Celestia calling her name in horror.

*** Made even sadder when you bear in mind how worried Shining Armor and Flurry Heart must've been in her absence.

* The argument between Twilight and Pinkie, resulting in Twilight's WhamLine. They are just about the last words anybody would expect the Princess of Friendship herself to say to her best friends. And it's just as heart wrenching to hear as it is to the other Mane Six.

* After being reverted from stone, the first thing Celestia cries out is "Twilight!" Knowing that the pony she thought about the most within her stone prison was her own student is just gut-wrenching, especially if you take the way their relationship was portrayed in ''[[Recap/MyLittlePonyFriendshipIsMagicS7E1CelestialAdvice Celestial Advice]]'' into account; that's the pony she's looked after since youth that she's thinking about...

* After being reverted from stone, the first thing Celestia cries out is "Twilight!" Knowing that the pony she thought about the most within her stone prison was her own student is just gut-wrenching, especially if you take the way their relationship was portrayed in ''[[Recap/MyLittlePonyFriendshipIsMagicS7E1CelestialAdvice Celestial Advice]]'' into account...

* Twilight abusing her friends' trust by trying to steal the Pearl of Transformation. The other Mane Six, especially Pinkie, look utterly betrayed when they see Twilight tangled up in the Pearl's defenses right after they got Queen Novo's support.
** Really, just Twilight being so desperate that she would ''steal'' is a TearJerker. You're just silently begging her not to do it.

* Seeing the normally upbeat and cheerful CMC sitting in a cage in despair just like everypony else.

* Capper's reaction to Rarity fixing his coat says a lot about how the man thinks others act. To elaborate, he honestly has trouble believing that anyone would do something nice like that without wanting something in return, and is flummoxed that Rarity would do something like that for free.

* Cadance getting petrified and Celestia calling her name in horror.
* Luna's horrified expression when Celestia is turned into stone.
** Celestia trying to quickly tell Luna where to get help before she fully becomes stone. The scene feels so much like those are Celestia's dying words to her sister! Then, Luna flying off to try to follow, only to be turned to stone before she can get away.
** After being reverted from stone, the first thing Celestia cries out is "Twilight!"
* Derpy Hooves TakingTheBullet so Twilight could escape. It just hurts seeing [[EnsembleDarkhorse the fan-favorite]] getting turned to stone. Thankfully, she's restored with the princesses, but poor Derpy...
** Put yourself in the horseshoes of any of the Derpy-like foals we've seen on the show. That's Mama[=/=]Auntie[=/=]Big Sis trapped in stone!
* One of the Storm King's minions tries to fight Fluttershy, but she [[SincerityMode sweetly asks if there's anything troubling him]]. Moments later, we see the said-minion in ''tears'' about [[NoodleIncident something]]. If it's any indication, he really ''was'' having a bad day. It's beautifully poignant to see [[WhatMeasureIsAMook a minion show a tender side]].
** It's possible, considering how easily and quickly the ponies managed to befriend them, that the Storm King's minions are only working for him because he has subdued and forced them to. They seem happy enough to join in on the celebrations, so it's possible they were in a similar position to Captain Celaeno and her pirates. So if you're a lone minion among many having someone kindly ask if you're alright, tears aren't that a surprise.
* When we meet Captain Celaeno and her crew, we learn they used to be pirates until the Storm King subdued their ship and forced them to serve him. They still recall a time when they used to go on adventures and find treasures. But now, they've been reduced to hauling Storm King merchandise, following rulebooks, and wearing drab black uniforms. [[DoesThisRemindYouOfAnything Not too different]] from people who have a passion, but find themselves put in a miserable job by the world.

* Seeing Ponyville on fire in a FreezeFrameBonus, we realize that some of the (more obscure) background ponies we've seen in various episodes will [[BusCrash not be back for season 8]].
