* Alma. Just... Alma. This poor girl hasn't lived a normal day in her life, was taken from her mother, experimented on and tortured to awaken, study, and control her psychic powers, and raped and forced to give birth to a super soldier and a telepathic psycho murderer, and kept alive through a medically-induced coma to continue studying her powers. In ''3'', [[spoiler:by the time you finally get to see her in the flesh, and not as a psychic projection, her belly is bloated to a disturbingly large size with fleshy tendrils supporting it like an alien egg sac, she looks like she's been struggling to give birth for ages, is emaciated, bloody, and dripping with sweat. That creepy child and horrifying projections are no more, and all that remains is a scared hurting woman desperate to safely deliver her child. If you get the "good" Point Man ending, the baby is delivered safely, but Alma's strength leaves her and she dies, but does so looking content knowing her good son will take care of her new child.]]

* Near the end of the first game, the Point Man encounters the adult Alma who seemingly tries to attack him and if she touches him, it's instant death. But if you look at the way Alma reaches for him it doesn't look like she's trying to harm him...it looks like she's trying to ''hug'' him. [[spoiler:She's meeting her child in person for the first time and wants to hug him and yet she's still so filled with rage she can't do so without killing him.

** It's also terrible to know that [[spoiler: Point Man and Fettel]] go from genuinely innocent and caring brothers to a murderer and a psychopath whose destructive tendencies are only matched by the sheer enmity between them. Throughout the course of the game you can even see the bond reforming before splintering viciously at the end.

* In ''FEAR 3'' Beckett's trauma over the events of the second game, particularly his confused pain and rage over [[spoiler: being raped by Alma]] is more than a little heartbreaking, with his emotions and decisions being reminiscent of real-life [[spoiler: rape victims]].

''{{FEAR}}'' may be a game series focused on supernatural horror and intense gunfights, but it nonetheless has some truly heartrending moments.

* In ''FEAR 2: Project Origin'', there's that scene where you finally arrive at Still Island and encounter the hallucination showing a flashback of Alma [[spoiler: being dragged away tot he Vault at Harlan wade's orders. A little girl being manhandled by two heavily-armored troops, sobbing the hole way and dropping her doll....]] Holy shit that's sad. Then you step onto Still Island, and find Alma's HappyPlace, and that just amps up how painful it all is.

** Especially when you see how pathetic her HappyPlace really is. Just a dead tree in a drainage ditch.

* ''FEAR 3'' has the Point Man and Fettel's flashbacks to their childhood. One scene involves [[spoiler: Harlan Wade getting angry that the twelve-year-old Point Man couldn't defeat an adult Armacham mercenary in hand-to-hand combat, and thus beat him with a metal bucket so hard he went flying into a concrete pillar]]. No wonder they were so messed up as adults....
