** Her battle outfit in ''SFV'' has a color option that is blue and yellow, with a red visor. The CFN site points out that she looks like she might fire off an [[Comicbook/Cyclops optic blast]].

** Mike slightly resembles Mr. Sandman from ''VideoGame/PunchOut'' series. Coincidentally, Mr. Sandman is also based off an African-American boxer, in his case, UsefulNotes/MuhammadAli, another possible inspiration for Mike.
** The African-American character and the Caucasian character featured in the original ''VideoGame/StreetFighterII'' intro were initially believed to be Mike and Joe from the very first game. However, the ''VideoGame/StreetFighterV'' website [[WordOfGod later revealed]] that they were separate characters named [[http://streetfighter.wikia.com/wiki/Max_and_Scott Max and Scott]], respectively.
* '''Retsu''''s name means "Furious" in Japanese.
** During the events of ''Anime/StreetFighterAlphaGenerations'', Ryu was facing an old man during a fight at the abandoned temple; it has been speculated that this man may have been Retsu. This character was played by [[Creator/TakeshiAono the same actor that voiced Retsu]] in the SFII's CD dramas.

Added DiffLines:

** It is a possibility that [[Characters/StreetFighterI Geki]] was the one who trained (or at the very least inspired) Vega in the art of Ninjutsu, since the latter went to Japan to study it according to the games' storyline. Vega also wears the same type of claw weapon like Geki's.

Added DiffLines:

** Although not connected to Retsu in any way, Makoto is similar to him in terms of fighting style, involving traditional Japanese martial arts with no fireballs, and her background in ''VideoGame/StreetFighterIII'' is similar to Retsu's background from the original ''[[VideoGame/StreetFighterI Street Fighter]]''.

** Ed's win quote against Abigail asks if he's some kind of robot. This is likely a nod to Jack from VideoGame/{{Tekken}}, both of them being very tall and muscular.

** More a coincidence than an inspiration, there's another fighter that also is a chef: Kung Pow from ''VideoGame/ClayFighter 63 1/3'', which is also a parody of Ryu and Ken. But instead a Luchador that make Mexican food, Kung Pow is a Karateka that makes Chinese food, also predating the idea by more than 10 years (''[=CF63=] 1/3'' is from 1997). And as El Fuerte, [[LethalChef his dishes are disgusting]].

* '''Decapre''''s Super and Ultra 2 resemble [[VideoGame/MarvelVsCapcom Wolverine's Berserker Barrage X and Wesker's Lost in Nightmares Hyper Combos]], respectively.

respectively. And about the latter, has gained the FanNickname of the ''Street Fighter'' version of [[VideoGame/MarvelSuperHeroes Spider-Man's Maximum Spider Hyper Combo]].

** His Battle Costume gives off a serious SelfDemonstrating/{{Lobo}} vibe. It's probably no coincidence that Abigail has a newfound fascination with motorcycles.

* '''Abigail''' is named after the Music/KingDiamond album of [[Music/{{Abigail}} the same name]]. His face-paint is also modeled after King Diamond's.

** One of Guile's versus mode win quotes in ''Street Fighter IV'' references "Stronger (What Doesn't Kill You) by Music/KellyClarkson.
--> "What doesn't kill you makes you stronger. Let this beating be a lesson."

* '''Ed''', in his playable design, resembles General Blue from ''Manga/DragonBall'' and both the physique and fashion sense of a ''[[Manga/JoJosBizarreAdventure Joestar]]''. His V-Skill even resembles Joseph's Hermit Purple, especially as depicted in Capcom's own ''JoJo'' fighting game.
