* The game system in episode 39/chapter 91 resembles the [[UsefulNotes/NintendoEntertainmentSystem Famicom]], although it is a Chinese Bootleg, made by Master Huang. The videogame the characters play is a bizarre cross between ''Franchise/SuperMarioBros'' (with even suspicious similar protagonists' names) and ''Franchise/DragonQuest'' (with random enemies battles and JRPG content). Additionally, the dialogue over the first eyecatch of the anime was one of the slogans that was used in the advertisement campaign for the ''[[VideoGame/EarthboundBeginnings MOTHER]]'' game.

* One of the alternate universes featured in the manga is a whole play on the ''Franchise/DragonQuest'' RPG format (the change of jobs, the character's roles), that becomes wrong in so... ''so'' many levels (Bossun ends up as a ''slime'', to mention an example). And the song that Switch is humming in the "screen title" (in the anime adaptation) is the Overture theme of the franchise.

* The rally that Bossun's class organizes for their final School Festival ("Vegetable Veritable") is based mostly in ''Franchise/DragonQuest''[='=]s elements.

** In the manga, Switch mentions that Dante using a symbol with furigana reminds him of the ''Manga/MajinTanteiNougamiNeuro''[='=]s chapter titles.

** The Sket Dan is requested to make an adaptation of the story after the success they had with the theater play they did for the kindergarten in an earlier chapter, but it turns to be ''weird''.
* Chapter 100 (and its adaptation in anime, s half of episode 71) is based on the Japanese folklore tale of "The Monkey and the Crab", and its ending hints the start of ''Literature/JourneyToTheWest'', once the Monkey (implied to be Sun Wukong) reforms himself.

Himeko even calls sepia a lame color, a RunningGag in the series, where people regularly made fun of the group's colors.

* At one episode of the series, Switch can be seen playing a game about ''Manga/{{Saki}}'', and in another episode there's a poster of the Vice Captain of Kazekoshi Girls School, Kana Ikeda, on a bulletin board.

* Himeko's last name is [[Manga/GreatTeacherOnizuka Onizuka]], another show about a former delinquent...

* In episode 3 Bossun asks Himeko if she can master [[Manga/{{Bleach}} Bankai]]. The episode/chapter where Himeko replaces her hockey-stick has Bossun suggest that she name it 'like a zanpakuto'.
** Switch apparently introduces himself and states his favorite Espada (Aaroniero Arruruerie) in the manga and Vizard (Kensei Muguruma) in the anime. The last is also a shout out to his [[Creator/TomokazuSugita seiyuu]] as well, since he also previously voiced him.
* In episode 5 the way Yuuki enters the Sket Dan club room is an obvious reference to the [[Literature/TheRing Ringu]] (especially as the eyecatch is the same but with a the background changed to TV static. Given her being that [[StringyHairedGhostGirl ghostly]] in appearance, it fits her character as well.
** Played again with Reiko in the [[AlternateUniverse Ninja universe]] chapter.
** Episode 10 of the anime starts off as a largely {{bowdlerised}} parody of {{Ringu}}, with a ''cursed'' videotape (not exactly cursed, but pretty much ''revealing''.

* In episode 8 the anime that Momoka is trying to get a part on is called [[Anime/FutariWaPrettyCure Futari wa Nervous]], one of the guys watching the audition looks very like [[Creator/ShinichiWatanabe Nabeshin]] (and he is even voiced by the man himself).
** And then there's the spin-off/sequel, [[Anime/YesPrettyCure5 No! Nervous 5]].
* Also Bossun excepted the MagicalGirl's CatchPhrase while they were helping Momoka to be InTheNameOfTheMoon and he did the [[Franchise/SailorMoon pose]] too.
* Episode 10 starts with a hilariously accurate parody of Manga/KimiNiTodoke at the beginning. In the manga, the original chapter was parodying [[Manga/StrawberryOneHundredPercent Ichigo 100%]].
* Episode 15 introduces us a teacher who looks like [[Franchise/FridayThe13th Jason]] with J-son as his nickname, for all things. Later, Date writes a spiral which Switch thinks he is referring to ''Manga/{{Uzumaki}}'' but Date was in reality meaning ''Manga/{{Naruto}}''. Switch can also be seen playing a game based on Manga/KatekyoHitmanReborn.
** Despite being a visual expy of Jason, J-son actually prefers [[HockeyMaskAndChainsaw chainsaws]] over machetes, and his first appearance has him replace [[Franchise/TheTexasChainsawMassacre Leatherface]] in some pretty obvious scene homages (in the form of an [[ImagineSpot imagine spot]] and the episode's [[EyeCatch eye catch]]).

* Episode 19/Chapter 48 has Bossun getting his hair cut like Goku from Manga/DragonBall and Switch channels Cell and he [[TrrrillingRrrs even imitates]] his [[Creator/NorioWakamoto seiyuu]] (Being said, this is not the first and only time Sugita has imitated Wakamoto's voice.)

** When Koma hits Bossun with her ''Koma's cannon' in chapter 95, Bossun ends up with a rather familiar death stance in the ground...

** Roman's 'stand' in her shoujo manga is named Lover Soul in the same nature that Araki does normally in his series. It's probably referring to J-music group, Judy And Mary, too.
** In the NextEpisodePreview of episode 6, Switch mentions ''Yare Yare Daze'', in Jotaro Kujo's way of saying it. It's funny, that later Tomokazu Sugita would have voiced another Joestar as well, Joseph Joestar [[spoiler: who is the grandfather of Jotaro later in ''Part 3: Stardust Crusaders'']] in the TV Animation from 2012.
** The phrase of 'Yare Yare Daze'' is also played on a cardboard in a record/DVD store in episode 43.
* In chapter 220, Switch goes to see a seiyuu by the name of Marina Onoue, a play on Momoka's VA, Creator/MarinaInoue.
* Several mentions of ''Manga/{{Kinnikuman}}'' are also in there, like the time they were playing ''Hyperion'' with a figurine that looked so much from the original protagonist of the series, and mentions around here and there of the ''Kinniku Buster''.

** The plot of the Ninja World's AlternateUniverse chapter is based mostly on it. With such references as Bossun's saying '-ttebayo' and Switch's changing clothes to make him look cooler (like a Genin).
** Bossun, at the end of the mini-arc of the Fake Fortune Teller, he mentions 'dattebayo'.
** In the full Biscuit Dance chapter, when Agata is suggesting for a play, Dante mentions of a 'Masked Shitobi' (Kakashi).
** Kiri's dad thinks that Sasuke sounds much as a ninja name... sadly, Tsubaki really sucks at learning ninja skills (though in defense, it couldn't be just a reference to ''Naruto'', Sasuke is indeed used for many ninja characters, one in mind is the servant of Kuno Tatewaki, who was an exclusive character for the anime series of ''Manga/RanmaOneHalf''.
* The tail of the Genesis' "net" is called [[Manga/OnePiece One Piece]] [[Manga/FairyTail Fairy Tail]].
* Roman, being almost the 'Queen of Old-School Shoujo Manga' in Kaimei, often refers to old shoujo works such as ''Manga/CandyCandy'' ("My prince of the Hill" which Switch refers it to be from the source material of ''Gyarando Gyarando'')), she channels sometimes as one of the characters in ''Manga/GlassMask''.
* The first appearance of [[AuthorAvatar Enta Hinohara]] in episode 09 is that ''misleading'' in the anime since he looked like a certain [[Creator/OsamuTezuka God of Manga]]... covered in light.
** Speaking of whom, the shonen manga club's assesor. Kezuka, is a race-flipped reference to him as well.
* Mentions of Anime/{{Doraemon}} are also done around the series. The chocolates the Himeko and Bossun were eating in the chapter were Dante was looking for his mechanical pencil, are a parody of the famous cosmic cat, and Chuu-san is referred as "he thinks like he is Doraemon or something".
* Roman Saotome is a walking [[ShoujoDemographic Old-School Shoujo]] echoing trope, and Gaou Ugajin (introduced in ch 219) has panels and a misleading communication problem based on dialogues of [[ShonenDemographic Old-School Shonen]] series such as, more notoriously, ''Manga/FistOfTheNorthStar''.

* Episode 16 has Bossun watching [[{{Transformers}} Transforminators 5]]
* Reading Hyperion game piece name Dodon-don-dodon out loud sounds suspiciously like [[ThemeTune the opening to]] [[{{Terminator}} a certain movie franchise]]. Also a somewhat [[PunnyName Punny name]].
* Episode 19 has Bossun getting his hair cut like Goku from DragonballZ and Switch channels Cell and he [[RollingYourRs rolls his Rs]] like his [[NorioWakamoto seiyuu]].
** A later episode has Shinzou trying to pick out casual clothes with Switch making him dress up like Vegeta, hair and all.

* Episode 30 has a shout out to, of all things, ''SpecialDutyCombatUnitShinesman''. One of the members of the Slender {{sentai}} team is "sepia," one of the same colors of the Shinesman. Himeko calls sepia a lame color, referencing a RunningGag in Shinesman of people making fun of their colors.
** The NextEpisodePreview in the same one was a complete shout-out to ''Manga/{{Bakuman}}'', with Shinzou talking about his dreams, similar animation, and even an Azuki CaptainErsatz.
* Episode 38 has Bossun picking up a toy sword and proclaiming [[GaoGaiGar This is the Key to Victory!]]
* The game system in episode 39/chapter 91 resembles the [[NintendoEntertainmentSystem Famicom]] (mostly because it is a Chinese Bootleg, made by Master Huang himself). The video game the characters play is a bizarre cross between {{Super Mario Bros}} (with even suspicious similar protagonists' names) and {{Dragon Quest}} (the random enemies battles). Additionally, the dialogue over the first eyecatch of the anime was one of the slogans from the advertisements for the game [[VideoGame/MOTHER1 MOTHER]].

** Speaking of whom, the shonen manga club's assesor is a race-flipped reference to him as well.

** The song that Switch's is 'singing' is the Overture fo the franchise too.

* The Party! Hallelujah! single cover is based on the one of Blood, Sugar, Sex, Magik of ''Music/RedHotChiliPeppers''.

* In New Year's (2010), Bossun and Tsubaki are playing a game which looks similarly to VideoGame/MonsterHunter.
