In the far distant future the evil organization known as "Jack Matter" have taken over the entire universe. In response, the nine "Kyūtama" transformation items sought nine individuals, each representing the different constellations of their home world, to become the Kyūrangers and save the universe.

* AnimalThemedSuperbeing: The rangers are based on constellations, which are all animals. Tenbin Gold is the exception, being based on Libra the Scales [[note]] and depending on your interpretation, so is Hebitsukai Silver (a snake charmer vs. being a snake[[/note]].
* ArmCannon: In addition to being morphers, the Seiza Blaster doubles as a ranged weapon too.

** Tenbin Gold has a more armoured form than the others, and looks somewhat mechanical.

** Following the [[Series/DoubutsuSentaiZyuohger 40th anniversary]] of the franchise, we have a series based on constellations. However, Kyuranger isn't the first team with that motif. That designation actually goes to, believe it or not, [[Series/HimitsuSentaiGoranger the first Sentai]] [[note]]Goranger's finale revealed that the team was linked by the constellation, Cassiopeia; even the beginnings of their names in team rank order spells the constellation's name[[/note]].
