* TrueCompanions: By Episode 4 the Heroes fully establish themselves as this by fully accepting Ichika when she came out as trans to them, apologizing for insensitive things they said and even offering to be there for her when she works up the courage to come out to her parents.

removed transphobic wording.

* TheHeart: Taisei insists on looking for a girl to fill the role of Momo Hero who will provide the traits that the rest of the team lacks. Momo Hero turns out to be a boy who identifies as a girl, and who beautifully plays the role of The Heart of the team by successfully talking down one of the Mazins.

* GratuitousEnglish: The villains' motto is "Pure, Right, Beautiful" in English.

* NeverTheObviousSuspect: Whenever the heroes have to investigate who a Mazin is, it is never the first person that they suspect and they often have to go through multiple suspects. Taisei Manaka is a Goranger otaku who dreams of becoming a hero and protecting his school from the threat of mazins, humans transformed into monsters by the pain in their hearts, one of which attacked him 10 years ago. Using a smartphone app created by his deceased father, he believes that he can transform. He must recruit 4 more members to become The High School Heroes and save their school, and the world.

----

!! Recurring Super Sentai tropes:
* BroughtToYouByTheLetterS: The High School Heroes each have the first letter of their own name covering the faceplate of their helmet.
* ColorCodedCharacters: Each of The High School Heroes, except for Gin Hero, are based on the Gorangers whose color that they match.
* DancingTheme: The characters dance in the show's end theme. In episode three they are joined by Zenkaizer and Kamen Rider Saber who do the dance with them.
* DefeatEqualsExplosion: The Mazins explode before reverting back to their human forms when they are defeated. In the final episode the BigBad explodes when he commits suicide.
* FiveManBand: Until they are joined by their sixth member, it follows the typical pattern of five members established by Goranger.
* GoldColoredSuperiority: Gold Mazin is the most powerful of the Mazins aside from Black Cross Mazin. This ties into Hyuma Oura's obsession with being the best. His color changes to silver before he transforms into Gin Hero when he learns to accept that he doesn't need to always be the best.
* HeroesPreferSwords: Likely due to this trope, Aka Hero gets a sword for his weapon even though the other members of the team get the same kind of weapon as their Goranger counterparts.
* SixthRanger: Even though the Gorangers never had a sixth member, The High School Heroes get a silver sixth member, Gin Hero.
* SuperSpeed: Gold Mazin and Gin Hero both have the ability to move so quickly they appear to be teleporting.
* TragicMonster: The Mazins are humans corrupted by an evil smartphone app that drives them to commit acts of violence motivated by the pain in their hearts.
* TransformationTrinket: The High School Heroes and the Mazins transform by opening an app on their smartphones and pressing a big button that says "Change".

----

!! Tropes specific to The High School Heroes
* BaseballEpisode: The famous Baseball Mask returns as Baseball Mazin and is defeated by a baseball thrown with so much force it breaks his bat.
* BrotherSisterIncest: Naoya is called a "siscon" by Junka after she finds out the reason why he doesn't want a relationship is because he worries too much about his sister and wants her to find a boyfriend first.
* EvilPrincipal: The BigBad of the series is the school's headmaster Danjuro Sumitomo, who first wants to drive all the nonconforming students out of school using the Mazins, and then take over Japan by spreading the Mazin app to everyone.
* FakeMemories: Black Cross Mazin has the ability to modify people's memories, including making them remember things that never happened. This ability has one weakness. It cannot change the victim's core personality, so if a person is a hero at heart, they will remain so.
* FusionDance: Yo-Yo Mazin is a fusion of two brothers.
* {{Homage}}: The entire show is full of homages to ''Series/HimitsuSentaiGorenger''. The main character is a fan of the show, all of the Mazins are based on Gorenger's Masked Monsters, the opening theme recreates several shots from the ''Goranger'' opening theme, and much of the music and sounds of the show will sound familiar to people who have seen ''Goranger''.
* ImaginaryFriend: Akaranger appears to Taisei as an imaginary advisor in every episode.
* LaserGuidedAmnesia: When the Mazin app is erased from the user's phone, they lose all memories of it and what they did under its influence. It also turns out that Black Cross Mazin has the power to modify or erase people's memories.
* MayContainEvil: The BigBad's plan is to take over the world by using the Mazin app to control everyone's minds. Hyuma Oura also modifies the gambling app that Yo-Yo Mazin created to turn the students who downloaded it into {{Mook}}s.
* NeverTheObviousSuspect: Whenever the heroes have to investigate who a Mazin is, it is never the first person that they suspect and they often have to go through multiple suspects. It is given an additional twist with Black Cross Mazin when it turns out that [[spoiler:Black Cross Mazin actually was the first person they suspected, but they are tricked into thinking it was somebody else all along because there actually are two Black Cross Mazins, of whom had had their memories modified.]]
* NotSoImaginaryFriend: Taisei finds out that his mother could see Akaranger all along near the end of the show, and in the final episode Akaranger is briefly able to become real enough to help fight Black Cross Mazin.
* SchoolClubsAreSeriousBusiness: In the first few episodes Taisei is desperate to recruit members for the School Defense Club, which he initially is the only member of.
* SpiderSense: Taisei is always able to hear it when somebody cries for help even when nobody else hears it. This ability may be some form of psychic ability and not just having really good hearing.
* SpottingTheThread: Taisei realizes that [[spoiler:Amari]]'s memories had been altered because he didn't remember [[spoiler:attacking Taisei and giving him a scar 10 years ago]].
* TalkingTheMonsterToDeath: After gaining their 5th member, it seems that the Heroes are going to use their team finishing move for the first time, but Ichika stops them because he empathizes with Sun Halo Mazin and instead defeats him by giving him a speech about being yourself.
* TrappedByGamblingDebts: After losing all the money that he made on Yo-yo Mazin's gambling app and ending up with less money than he started, Ryuhei has his sense of pride ripped out by Yo-Yo Mazin and is made to help him recruit more people to participate in the app, and when that doesn't work, he is reduced to becoming the one that bets are placed on.
* {{Yandere}}: Black Hair Mazin goes around attacking girls and cutting their hair, stating that she won't let them have that man. It eventually turns out that Black Hair Mazin is Junka, a girl that Naoya rejected because he wasn't ready for a relationship.
* YouKilledMyFather: Despite Akaranger's warnings, Taisei becomes determined to defeat Black Cross Mazin to avenge the death of his father.
