* ShoutOut: In Stage 2, when Houka and Tsubasa enter the secret room in their house, they [[Literature/HarryPotter exit from a fireplace]]. As if it can't get enough, there's also a blinking portrait, and they summon their broomsticks telepathically.

** They do it again in Stage 12, giving Houka [[Literature/SnowWhite apples to inflict on her family.]]

** [[OurGeniesAreDifferent Smoky]], upon being released by the Magirangers, introduces himself with a [[WesternAnimation/{{Aladdin}} big, bombastic song and dance number.]]
** The end of Stage 33 is one giant reference to Franchise/StarWars, mixing pivotal scenes from ''Film/TheEmpireStrikesBack'' and ''Film/ReturnOfTheJedi''.
** N Ma being a giant red eye recalls the Eye of Sauron from ''[[Film/TheLordOfTheRings The Lord of The Rings]]''. The rings Hikaru gives the siblings also evoke the rings from said series (although they thankfully have a more benevolent purpose here).

* ArcWords: "You may also create a new legend". Hikaru says this with regard to each sibling from Stages 25 through 29, [[{{Foreshadow}} foreshadowing]] their obtainment of the [[SuperMode Legend Mode]].

** Stage 20 is a double-whammy TemptingFate for Urara. Urara initially refuses to kiss the frog with the statement that she can't kiss anyone unless she likes them. Not long after, she caves out of pity and does, indeed, kiss the frog after it saves her life. The frog turns out to be Hikaru, who teases Urara that this must mean she came to like him at some point; an embarrassed Urara attempts to slap him in response. [[spoiler:27 episodes later, Hikaru finds himself on the receiving end of a LoveConfession from Urara at a time he has to worry about [[YourDaysAreNumbered potentially dying on her]] if he accepts her feelings. Oh, and she ''does'' kiss him again... at their wedding.]]

** There are smaller examples in individual episodes, especially when it comes to Urara's FortuneTeller abilities; for instance, Stage 14 has Urara see [[BarrierMaiden the shadow of a woman]] while trying to find the [[MacGuffin Key to the Gate of Infershia]], two episodes before they meet "Rin". Stage 19 has Urara find an ill omen of disaster ahead that has a shining presence "like the sun" to offset it, and sure enough, while the siblings are tricked into unsealing Meemy, they also get Smoky and Hikaru after it (the latter of whom had been briefly seen in Sungel form at the beginning of Stage 19, but is properly revealed to be the true identity of the "frog" in the cave one episode later).

* ALadyOnEachArm: Belbireji pulls this with Nai and Mare. They were not amused.

* AttackReflector: Kai used this tactic against the MonsterOfTheWeek in Stage 4, although it was Urara who came up with the idea.

* DeadpanSnarker: Tsubasa's usual demeanor, to the point this is Hikaru's first impression of him when he first evaluates the siblings.

* HandsomeLech: Hikaru is initially introduced in a way that suggests this, since he teases Urara about giving him a MagicKiss, accepts Eriko ditching Makito to ask him out, and is accused of fooling around in Kyoto with Houka ([[NotWhatItLooksLike he wasn't]]), but this never shows up again after the incident in Stage 22, especially since the Ozu siblings comprise the majority of his interactions with humans. [[spoiler:It's also later revealed by the time of Stage 47 that he'd been in love with Urara for a long time, implying that his initial teasing of her may have been a ''little'' more than just a joke.]]

** However this pales in comparison to the [[HeroicBSOD Mass BSOD]] that all five siblings have when [[spoiler: [[IfICantHaveYou Hades God Toad seemingly murders their comatose Mother in front of them because he doesn't want them to have her]]]] It's enough to completely break their [=MagiLegend=] fusion.

* IndyPloy: Hikaru learns an aesop about using these in Stages 40-41, on the grounds that sometimes it's better to just go for it and hope for opportunities to come out of it instead of being too overly cautious.

* ItsPersonal: Lunagel and Sungel took Raigel's betrayal very, very seriously. Likewise, Kai's vendetta against Wolzard for killing his mother goes far beyond that of his siblings, [[spoiler:which poses some issues for him when Wolzard turns out to actually be his respected father]].

* SemiDivine: The five siblings are half-human, half-Heavenly Saint. In practice, they're treated as humans for all intents and purposes with ''slightly'' more affinity for magic than the average human.
* SexyMentor: Hikaru is the Ozu siblings' teacher, who's pointed out in-universe to be very attractive.

* PlayingGertrude: While actors being younger than their characters is common in Sentai, the cast for ''Magiranger'' had an unusually strong trend of skewing on the lower end, besides Kai's actor Atsushi Hashimoto (who was 18 while Kai is 17[[note]]even then, Hashimoto was the youngest actor to play a Red until [[Series/KaitouSentaiLupinrangerVsKeisatsuSentaiPatranger Kairi]]'s actor Asahi Ito, thirteen years later[[/note]]) and Houka's actress Ayumi Beppu (who was 22 like her character and, ironically, the oldest of the siblings' actors), ''all'' of the major characters had actors younger than their in-series age:

* InstantExpert: Upon first receiving their powers from their mother, the Magirangers figure out how to operate them fairly quickly. That said, this only applies as far as basic things go, because Miyuki's death leaves them stuck with self-study and a minimal amount of guidance from Mandora Boy for a while; by the time Hikaru shows up in Stage 20, one of the first things he does is call out how obvious their lack of training shows. (In fact, some of the earlier MonsterOfTheWeek problems in the early episodes, most particularly Houka's vampirism, could have potentially been solved more quickly if an experienced magician like Miyuki, Lunagel, or Hikaru had been present at that point in the series.)

* HiddenElfVillage: Humans are not allowed to set foot in Magitopia, and Heavenly Saints are not allowed to interfere in Surface World matters beyond being patrons for human magicians (the idea being that human magicians can use magic to protect their own world themselves). Or at least, those were ''supposed'' to be the rules, but then Blagel decided to be NeutralNoLonger for the sake of protecting his wife and children, Miyuki went up to Magitopia to support her decision, and Blagel's disciples followed him into the war. Then, later, the Ozu siblings go up to Magitopia to request that Kai be able to use Unigolon to rescue Yamazaki, while Sungel (Hikaru) ''definitely'' continues breaking neutrality to fight directly alongside the siblings and teach them magic via instruction. Magiel is not particularly ''happy'' about all of this rule-breaking going on, but she's at least enough of a ReasonableAuthorityFigure to be sympathetic to their cases.

* ArbitrarySkepticism: In Stage 6, the siblings don't believe Kai when he tells him that Wolzard contacted him in his dreams for no better reason than to facilitate him going against Wolzard alone.

* AttackReflector: Kai used this tactic against the MonsterOfTheWeek in Stage 4. But it was Urara who thought of the idea.

** In Stage 19, after Smoky first comes out of his genie lamp, he sniffs Kai. Smoky turns to the camera and says, "Not the master".

* CastFromHitPoints: Using magic beyond your abilities quickly drains your stamina, as seen with Kai in Stages 6 and 7, and [[spoiler:Miyuki in Stage 46.]]

* DeadManWriting: When the siblings enter the Magic Room for the first time, they find that Miyuki left a message behind a message for her children, anticipating that she would likely be killed once Infershia began its invasion.

* ByThePowerOfGreySkull: "Mahou Henshin! ''Ma-gi Magi Magiro!''" The full version adds "Heavenly Saints, grant us the power of magic!" when inputting the code for transformation spell.

* LawOfChromaticSuperiority: The series has a rather unusual approach to this trope; instead of being TheLeader (that's Makito) or the most powerful (he does have the occasional burst of power and two unique mechs, but his access to these is quite unreliable), Kai is actually TheBabyOfTheBunch, and the series functions as his ComingOfAgeStory. This is reflected in him being ''last'' in the roll call, an unusual position for Sentai Reds. Since the series is about ThePowerOfFamily, most of its episodes focus on the relationship between two characters (usually the two depicted in the episode's eyecatch) instead of just one, so episodes that focus on Kai's CharacterDevelopment also contribute to characterizing one of his siblings or Hikaru since they each have their own way of interacting with him and giving him support (or even getting advice from him in turn). This allows Kai to be at the center of the narrative without overshadowing the others, since his successes and growth reflect back on his family helping him bring out his potential. The next time Sentai used this kind of approach (a Red being the youngest in the group who's more relevant to the story and being TheHeart instead of a combat or tactical leader) would be ''fifteen years later'' in ''[[Series/MashinSentaiKiramager Kiramager]]'', a series that explicitly took cues from ''Magiranger'' in development.

* MixAndMatch: Series/MahouSentaiMagiranger = (Super Sentai + Literature/HarryPotter + [[Literature/TheBible The Book of Revelations]]) + BadassFamily.

* PowerLimiter: It was supposed to be a spell to stop the siblings from turning to Heavenly Saints and lose all their memories but had a certain side effect of weakening the Legendary Power Mode.

* TwoGirlsToATeam: The main team consisted of two girls as usual, Pink and Blue, making Magiranger the fourth Sentai team to have a female Blue, as well as the second team where she was not the lone girl. Magi Mother joins her children towards the end of the series as well, serving as the team's third female member. Half of the Heavenly Saints were also women and all of them were in high positions of authority.
* VillainsActHeroesReact: As is the norm for ''Super Sentai'', we generally have Infershia sending out a MOTW with an EvilPlan OnceAnEpisode, with our heroes then arriving on the scene to stop them.

* AccidentalKidnapping: Hades God Toad had no idea that the "special soul" he'd stolen from the Flower Garden of Souls was [[spoiler:Miyuki.]]
* AccidentalPervert: Kai in one episode where Houka is attempting to help him on a date with his love interest, Yuka Yamazaki, ends up knocking him over, and causes him to see up his crush's skirt.
