Primarily a SpyDrama spoof, ''Chuck'''s appeal comes from a mix of sharp writing, well-realized characters with surprisingly genuine emotional lives, and a strong cast including Zachary Levi as Chuck, Creator/YvonneStrahovski as Sarah, and the inimitable Creator/AdamBaldwin as John Casey. (And Yvonne Strahovski being good-looking. ''[[MsFanservice Really good looking]]''.) Much of the comedy comes from Chuck's FishOutOfWater nature in the spy world (even the cartoon version of it presented in the show) combined with the contrast between his life as a PartTimeHero and the normal one he tries to maintain with his sister and in his job at the Buy More.

* KissKissSlap: Played with in the season 3 premiere where Chuck jeapordizes a mission by showing up to help. In order to preserve her cover, Sarah orders Chuck to kiss her. He does, then she slaps him so hard it knocks him out. She then tells the mark she is on a date with that Chuck is her ex who wouldn't let go, thus invoking this trope.

** Of course, this doesn't stop him from using tranqguns to knock out enemies.
** Even more than guns that he actually hates ''killing'' and would rather knock out his enemies than kill them.
** Shaw hates guns too ([[UnreliableNarrator or so he claims]]), but he uses them all the time.
