!!Laxus Dreyar
!!!Voiced by: Creator/KatsuyukiKonishi (Japanese), Hideyuki Hayami (Japanese, young), Creator/PatrickSeitz (English), Mary Morgan (English, young)
[[quoteright:350:http://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/laxus_2014.png]]

Laxus is the grandson of Makarov Dreyar, an S-Class wizard, and heir to the title of Fairy Tail's guild master. He is an expert lightning wizard, and a second-generation Thunder Dragon Slayer courtesy of an artificial dragon lacrima implant given to him by his excommunicated father, Ivan. He initially values strength above all else and doesn't get along well with most of his fellow guildmates, particularly his grandfather. However, after Makarov expels him from the guild for endangering the lives of his friends, he becomes a kinder and humbler man, and is reinstated into the guild by Gildarts for his heroism against Hades on Sirius Island.
----
* TheAce: He's one of the absolute strongest members of the guild, so much so that the very idea of ''anyone'' besides [[AlwaysSomeoneBetter Gildarts]] beating him was deemed impossible before Natsu and Gajeel finally managed to bring him down together. He gets even better after he irons out his {{Jerkass}}-ish personality, not only beating Jura (considered to be [[WorldsStrongestMan the strongest human being alive]]) in a fair fight, but also being the only person to defeat one of the Spriggan 12 (wizards of an even higher caliber than Jura) ''without'' direct assistance from anyone else. He also turns out to be quite the ChickMagnet, too.
* AdaptationalDyeJob: He has orange eyes in the manga, which are changed to bluish-gray in the anime.
* AntagonisticOffspring: A variation with his grandfather, Makarov, whose shadow he resents living under even though Makarov only wants what's best for him. That contempt only grew once Makarov expelled his own son and Laxus's dad, Ivan, even though both were fully aware Ivan is [[ArchnemesisDad a scumbag who brought harm to their guild]]. He's even downright gleeful when he hears Makarov is on death's door during the Battle of Fairy Tail, as it means he'll get to be in charge and make his own name. He ultimately abandons his hatred of Makarov when he realizes he doesn't have it in his heart to do so.%%Keep in mind, an Antagonistic Offspring is an exclusively villainous trope, so it doesn't apply to his relationship with Ivan.%%
* AntiVillain: Before his HeelFaceTurn, Laxus wants to turn Fairy Tail into a guild everyone can respect. Unfortunately for the rest of the guild, this means rooting out the weaklings and/or goofballs (i.e., pretty much everyone there), and crushing anyone who talks smack about it.
* ArcVillain: He's the main antagonist of the Battle of Fairy Tail arc, where his efforts to become leader involve manipulating a battle royal between the members of his own guild by taking members of the beauty pageant hostage, and then threatening to destroy the town and hoping that Makarov surrenders the title of guild master to him.
* ArrogantKungFuGuy: His dominant personality trait at the start of the series is his tendency to rub his strength in everyone's faces, and pummel those who doubt him. Getting beaten by Natsu with Gajeel's assistance is what finally brings him down to earth.
* BadassBaritone: He's voiced by the master of this trope, Creator/PatrickSeitz, in the English dub. Even in the original Japanese version, Creator/KatsuyukiKonishi uses a very deep voice.
* BadassLongcoat: He's almost always seen with a fur-lined CoatCape, unless TheCoatsAreOff.
* TheBusCameBack: After a period of absence from the plot following his expulsion at the end of the Battle of Fairy Tail, he returns in the Sirius Island arc to [[BigDamnHeroes save his old guildmates from Hades]], and has since returned to stay.
* CallingTheOldManOut: When he was younger, Laxus called his literal old man Makarov out for kicking his father, Ivan, out of the guild, causing their relationship to sour. He later lets Ivan have it during the Grand Magic Games for demanding his cooperation in talking about Lumen Histoire.
* CharacterDevelopment: At the beginning of the series, Laxus considers strength to be the most important thing in the world, and making sure everyone knows how strong he is. After being forced to face the fact that his friends are more important to him than he realizes (and getting taken down by Natsu for good measure), he leaves to do some soul-searching and comes back a much kinder, humbler man.
* ChickMagnet: He begins showing these traits quite prominently right after the Grand Magic Games, attracting a bunch of female admirers without even trying. [[spoiler:He ends up being quite popular with the ladies once he joins Blue Pegasus during Fairy Tail's one-year disbandment, too. In fact, Lucy mentions in the ending that there have been ''at least'' three rumors that he's together with Mirajane, Lisanna, and Cana.]]
* TheComicallySerious: Best shown during the scenes with the rest of the guild. Before his HeelFaceTurn, he was often off to the side ignoring everyone's wild antics. Even after mellowing out, he remains rather serious while others like Natsu are off starting a BarBrawl or acting weird.
* DislikesTheNewGuy: When Lucy first joins the guild, Laxus is initially fairly dismissive of her, blaming her for Phantom Lord attacking the guild in part to kidnap her. He's also ''really'' peeved when Fairy Tail recruits Gajeel and Juvia, two former Phantom wizards, which partially fuels his desire to take over. It should be noted, however, that he has a poor relationship with pretty much all his guildmates except for the Raijin Tribe.
* DubNameChange: He's called the Thunder Dragon Slayer by Kodansha, and a Lightning Dragon Slayer by Funimation, with his Dragon Slayer attacks named accordingly.
* TheExile: After the Battle of Fairy Tail, Laxus goes into exile after his grandfather expels him from the guild for causing pain and suffering.
* FaceRealization: After [[KickTheDog kicking many dogs]] and beating the crap out of Natsu and Gajeel during his stint as an ArcVillain, he finally decides he'll finish everyone in Magnolia off in one fell swoop with [[HolyHandGrenade Fairy Law]]. No one is more surprised than him when ''no one'' is affected by the spell, which only affects those the caster considers in their heart of hearts to be an enemy. This revelation causes Laxus to suffer a major VillainousBreakdown rather than admit he actually ''cares'' for anybody; only when he's defeated and calms down does he finally accept it.
* FangsAreEvil: Pronounced canines are actually a common trait among Dragon Slayers, but he did not have them until he actually started using his Dragon Slayer magic in the middle of his berserk rage against Fairy Tail.
%%* FatalFlaw: His pride in his abilities ends up leading to his expulsion.
%%* FreudianExcuse
* GameBreakingInjury: Laxus contracts a deadly concentration of Devil Particles during his fight with Tempester in the Tartaros arc. His infection is so bad that even after Porlyusica saves his life, he suffers from recurring heart attacks and violent body spasms afterward whenever he overexerts himself, which greatly hampers his effectiveness in battle against Wall Eehto. [[spoiler:He manages to cure himself completely by tricking Wall into neutralizing a Jutsu Shiki barrier that takes the particles with it.]]
%%* GeniusBruiser
* GoodScarsEvilScars: He has a RuggedScar shaped like a lightning bolt across his left eye, making him look like a big, intimidating bully.
* HeadphonesEqualIsolation: Before his expulsion from the guild, he is always seen wearing headphones and is hardly ever around the rest of the guild except to mock how weak they all are. He stops wearing them starting with the Grand Magic Games after he learns to be a team player.
* HeelFaceTurn: He tries to destroy Fairy Tail in order to remake it in his own image. After being snapped out of his obsession, however, he embraces his kindhearted nature.
* HolyHandGrenade: He knows how to perform Fairy Law, one of the Three Great Fairy Magics, which casts a bright light on the battlefield that attacks anyone the user sees as his enemy. When
* HulkingOut: When he reveals he's a Dragon Slayer during the Battle of Fairy Tail, he immediately grows in girth complete with enlarged canines and scales appearing on his arms. This hasn't happened since.
%%* HumblePie:
* IdenticalGrandson: Looks like a tall, muscular version of young Makarov. Hades double takes when Laxus charges in, and calls Laxus "boy" which he used to call Makarov. He also bears a strong resemblance to his great-grandfather, Yuri.
* JerkWithAHeartOfGold: He's initially a jerk who refuses to listen to his kind-natured heart, but when he is forced to do so, [[CharacterDevelopment he becomes a much nicer person]]. He's still a bit distant and says some oftentimes blunt things, but he cares for the guild more then anything.
* {{Jerkass}}: Before he TookALevelInKindness, Laxus grew up to be an absolute creep who shoved his ego down everyone's throats, and only continued to get worse by forcing everyone in the guild to turn on each other so he could root out the "weaklings".
* KickTheDog: After refusing to help out against Phantom Lord, he mocks Shadow Gear for being weak enough to lose to Gajeel, and blames Lucy for the entire guild war. Erza and Mirajane understandably do ''not'' react well to it.
* LightEmUp: He knows how to perform Fairy Law which is one of the "Three Great Fairy Magics" distinct to the Fairy Tail guild.
* LightIsNotGood: He's a [[ShockAndAwe lightning wizard]] whose name comes from "lux", the Latin word for "light". He's also the TokenEvilTeammate of Fairy Tail. However, he firmly becomes LightIsGood after his HeelFaceTurn.
* LightningBruiser: [[ShockAndAwe All puns aside]], this guy's abilities are ridiculous. He's hard enough to hit as it is, and when things really get dicey, he can actually turn himself into lightning, which makes him ridiculously fast. He's one of the toughest sons of bitches in a guild where being tough is par for the course, and his lightning magic is ridiculously powerful. This doesn't even take into account him being a Dragon Slayer, who are already versatile fighters by default.
* ManlyTears:
** When he is expelled, Fairy Tail gives him the send-off of a lifetime to let him know that [[CrowningMomentOfHeartwarming they still consider him one of their own]], causing him to cry on his way out.
** [[spoiler:He is rather composed following Makarov's death during the Alvarez Empire arc, not because he doesn't care, but out of respect of his grandfather's wishes. It's only after Mavis makes her own sacrifice to bring him back to life that Laxus cries, overcome with joy.]]
* NoSocialSkills: He's quite lacking when it comes to talking with other people, demonstrated when he tugs on Lisanna's face and roughly pats her head to make sure she's real, seeing how she supposedly died the last time he knew her. This is likely due to him always keeping his distance from the rest of the guild for years.
* OrcusOnHisThrone: [[JustifiedTrope Justified]] during the Battle of Fairy Tail. No matter how much he hates Fairy Tail's reputation, he doesn't have the stomach to directly kill anyone.
* PetTheDog: Even before learning his lesson, he did treat the Raijin Tribe with respect and had a fair amount of pride in their abilities, with them being his only friends within the guild.
* {{Pride}}: The reason for his rebellion, and his defining character trait pre-expulsion, is because he is overly confident in his own strength and hates seeing his guildmates make a mockery of themselves. After his return, he still has pride in his admittedly monstrous abilities, but it's majorly toned down and he no longer believes his power makes him better than everybody else.
* PsychoElectro: He's a Thunder Dragon Slayer who starts out as an arrogant and sociopathic douchebag, and later attempts to stage a mutiny against Makarov. He drops this after his HeelFaceTurn.
* RideTheLightning: He can turn himself into a bolt of lightning to dodge an attack or travel short distances.
* ShipTease:
** He gets a bit of it with Mirajane, though not at first, considering how his wretched, self-important personality is one of the few things that can elicit a DeathGlare from the [[OOCISSeriousBusiness normally sweet Mira]]. By the time of his HeroicSacrifice in the Tartaros arc, however, she tenderly commends him for his heroism, [[spoiler:and in the finale, they're happily chatting and (briefly) rumored to be seeing each other]].
** He also has a little bit with Lisanna and Cana, [[spoiler:who are ''also'' rumored to be hanging around with him in the finale]].
* ShockAndAwe: On top of his abilities to create lightning bolts and turn himself into electricity, he's also a Thunder Dragon Slayer, which grants him abilities such as an electric BreathWeapon that's akin to a WaveMotionGun, and the power to toss [[ShapingYourAttacks a literal javelin]] of pure electricity.
* SmugSmiler: Before his HeelFaceTurn, there's hardly ever a scene where there isn't a shit-eating grin plastered on his face. However, he's never ever been seen with one since, and when he does.
* SmugSuper: Pre-CharacterDevelopment, he was an utter {{Jerkass}} but also the ''strongest'' member of the guild outside of both Makarov and Gildarts, and he made sure everyone around him knew it. Post-development has him tone it down considerably.
* TheSocialDarwinist: He initially believes that Fairy Tail should adopt this ideal in order to become stronger, rooting out anyone who holds them back. He thus crafts the Battle of Fairy Tail around the idea of survival of the fittest, forcing his guildmates to pick each other off until only the strongest remain standing. After he's beaten by Natsu, however, he abandons this mindset entirely.
* TheStoic: As a result of getting a slice of HumblePie, he has a much calmer demeanor than his loud, obnoxious bragging.
* TameHisAnger: Upon his return after the fight at Sirius Island, Laxus has mellowed out considerably.
* TookALevelInKindness: Loses his arrogant, apathetic nature after returning to help Team Natsu against Hades.
* UsedToBeASweetKid: Flashbacks show that Laxus was once an incredibly bright young lad who looked up to his grandfather and thought Fairy Tail was an amazing guild. All that changed when he started having to deal with people knowing him only as "the master's grandson" rather than on his own terms. But the straw that broke the camel's back was when Makarov expelled Ivan, his own son and Laxus's father, which convinced Laxus that Makarov truly doesn't care about his own family. He's since mellowed out and regained much of his former kindness, though he's far more subdued than he once was.
%%* VillainousBreakdown
* WeaksauceWeakness: Like all Dragon Slayers, he also suffers from motion sickness. While it's never been shown, he's apparently had it for a while, though he tells Mirajane not to tell Natsu, since he'd NeverLiveItDown.
* WellIntentionedExtremist: In his own way, he loves his guild and hates it when anyone laughs at it. He just focuses on its reputation more than its actual members, and ends up endangering their lives because of it.
* WorthyOpponent: In his own, [[SmugSuper round-about way]], he considered only Natsu and Erza strong enough to fight the Raijin Tribe during the Battle of Fairy Tail. He also considered Mystogan the only member of Fairy Tail who'd probably stand a chance against him in a one-on-one, if only for the fact that [[DarkhorseVictory Mystogan was the one opponent whose magic he wasn't familiar with]]. As for Gildarts, however, he's away from the guild so often that he doesn't even count in his eyes.

!!"Demon Woman" Mirajane Strauss
!!!Voiced by: Creator/RyokoOno (Japanese), Creator/MonicaRial (English)
[[quoteright:249:http://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/75adc58964bde78f4e86d3df11a8aa17.png]]

Mirajane is a sweet-natured S-Class wizard who works at Fairy Tail as an administrator. She is an expert at using transformation magic to alter her appearance, clothes, and voice. She is also the eldest of three siblings who specialize in Takeover, a spell that lets its caster take over the powers of creatures they come in contact with; her specialty is Satan Soul, which allows her to take over the powers and forms of demonic beings. She had initially lost most of her fighting ability due to the grief of losing her youngest sibling, Lisanna, forcing her to retire from active guild missions. However, she has since regained her demon powers to protect her guild.
----
%%* AbsoluteCleavage: In Satan Soul.
* ActionGirl: She assumes the forms of highly destructive demons, so of course she's this. Her power in the guild is rivaled only by Erza, who is officially the strongest female member of Fairy Tail.
* AllOfTheOtherReindeer: After she had first used her Takeover powers to defeat a demon at a church in her hometown, the UngratefulTownsfolk believed her to be [[DemonicPossession possessed by the demon]] and cast her and her siblings out. She was treated much the same way by everyone else she met, making her feel unfit to protect her family, until she found acceptance from Fairy Tail, where Elfman and Lisanna learned matching spells to make her feel more at home.
* AwesomeButImpractical: [[spoiler:Satan Soul: Alegria. It's the most powerful of her transformations ever shown by far, but after just a few seconds of use, it drains her of so much of her energy that she's unable to even stand. This leaves her completely defenseless when Irene Belserion, the strongest woman of the Alvarez Empire, shows up.]]
* BadassAdorable: She may seem sweet, but she's also one of Fairy Tail's elite S-Class wizards, and she can turn into terrifying demons to boot.
* BadassLongcoat: Her Satan Soul: Sitri form has one.
* TheBartender: Sometimes acts as this in the guild. She's definitely got the friendly, good advice part down.
* BewareTheNiceOnes: She's polite, ditzy, and caring to a fault. Hurt one of her siblings and friends, however, and then she'll show you she still lives up to her old title of "Demon Woman".
%%* BewareTheSillyOnes: If you slight her, she ''will'' get you back.
* BigSisterInstinct: It's this instinct that causes her to reawaken her Satan Soul powers when Elfman is being subjected to ColdBloodedTorture.
* BrokenBird: Although she has since outgrown the TroubledButCute part, Mirajane was cast out of her own town by villagers who thought she had been possessed by a demon she had defeated, causing her to develop a withdrawn, and later a ''very'' [[FormerTeenRebel rough and violent]], personality. A few years later, her younger sister was thought to have died, and she took on a more sweet and caring personality to make sure she wouldn't lose her brother as well. With the return of her sister, however, Mira appears to have recovered completely.
%%* Cloudcuckoolander: She has her moments.
* ContraltoOfDanger: Her Satan Souls tend to [[PowerMakesYourVoiceDeep deepen her voice]] to varying degrees upon usage. The Japanese version eventually abandons this aspect after the first anime series, but the English dub keeps it up.
* ConvenientlyAnOrphan: Her and her siblings' parents died when they were very young, which gave them one less reason to stay in their home when the townsfolk drove them out.
* CoolBigSis: She's very kind and supportive not just to her siblings, but also to any junior member of the guild, particularly Lucy.
* CovertPervert: Seems to have UsefulNotes/{{BDSM}} tendencies, especially judging by her spanking of BoundAndGagged Erza due to a penalty game.
* CursedWithAwesome: She originally hated her Takeover powers since she and her siblings were chased out of their hometown because of them, and she didn't even consider herself human anymore. She managed to accept them after her siblings showed her they had the same kind of magic.
* DarkAndTroubledPast: Orphaned, chased out of her home village because of her powers and then presumably lost one of her younger siblings.
* DarkIsNotEvil: Her powerset, known as Satan Soul, involves taking over and transforming into powerful demonic beings and using their abilities in combat. She is also one of the kindest, bubbliest and good-natured people in the entire series.
* DeathGlare: Her eyes in her demon forms are this by default. She'll also flash the same glare in her usual form whenever someone sufficiently angers her.
* DemonicPossession: [[InvertedTrope Inverted]]; ''she's'' the one who possesses demons, as explained by Makarov during a flashback.
* DissonantSerenity: Often has a cheerful smile even in situations when others would be upset. Sometimes, even when she herself is upset, she'll have this expression before suddenly breaking into comedic tears.
* EvenTheGirlsWantHer: Lucy has been seen looking at her modeling pictures. In the Battle of Fairy Tail, it's been stated that she has captured the hearts of men and women across the land.
* ExpositoryHairstyleChange: After her sister Lisanna was attacked by their [[SuperPoweredEvilSide brother Elfman]], she changed her hair from a [[TomboyishPonytail ponytail]] to a [[IdiotHair forehead tail]]. The new hairstyle is more in keeping with the sweeter personality she developed.
* FeminineWomenCanCook: DoubleSubversion. Many have said that she's a good chef, but she's easily the most feminine out of all of the cast. However, interestingly enough, she was even able to cook when she was a kid.
* FingerLickingPoison: To her Satan Soul form, toxic gasses are merely delicious desserts.
* FormerTeenRebel: In complete contrast to her present self, she was a loud-mouthed, HotBlooded {{Jerkass}} who liked to pick on Natsu and the rest of her juniors. However, she still dearly loved Elfman and Lisanna, and the latter's supposed death caused Mira to develop her current persona so she wouldn't lose Elfman as well.
* FriendlyRivalry: With Jenny Realight, and sometimes with Erza if their former rivalry even comes up anymore.
%%* GameFace: Satan Soul.
* GirlyBruiser: She is the TeamMom of the guild, is incredibly gentle, and is said to be the guild's TeamChef. She also has a modelling gig with ''Weekly Sorcerer'' Magazine. Her Satan Soul forms, however, make her very much a bruiser.
* GoodEyesEvilEyes: She had TsurimeEyes when she was younger and when she uses Satan Soul. Now she has TaremeEyes.
* IdiotHair: She purposely wears it this way. As a teenager, she had a TomboyishPonytail.
* IndifferentBeauty: While it's been mentioned that she's won the hearts of men ''[[EvenTheGirlsWantHer and women]]'' all over the country, she never actually uses her looks to her advantage.
* InnocentBlueEyes: Emphasizing her sweet, compassionate nature.
* JerkWithAHeartOfGold: In her youth, despite being rude and abrasive, she still cared for her younger siblings.
%%* TheLadette: When she was younger.
* LetsGetDangerous: Any time she's forced to use Satan Soul in battle, she drops her sweet and friendly side to show her foes a world of pain.
* LightningBruiser: Her Satan Soul lets her fly and move with incredible speed and make shock-waves with her punches.
* LiteralGenie: She has a bit of fun with this during the beauty pageant in the Fantasia arc. While the other contestants use their magic to change into alluring costumes or bathing suits, she uses hers to make a happy face... Happy the cat, that is.
--> "This is my happy face!"
* LittleBigSister: She's Elfman's older sister, but doesn't look like it since he's way bigger and really protective of her.
* LittleMissBadass: Before Mirajane joined Fairy Tail, she defeated a demon attacking a church with her Satan Soul.
* MarkedChange: Her Satan Soul gives her a weird, black scar thing over her eye.
* MeaningfulName: The first half of her name (and frequent nickname), Mira, means "peace." It was more of an IronicName during her EnfantTerrible years, but it suits her adult persona extremely well.
* MsExposition: She's often the one explaining things about the guild or guilds in general to Lucy (and thus to the audience).
* MsFanservice: To the point of winning a fanservice contest against another model in the Grand Magic Games.
* MysticalWhiteHair: A mage with white hair.
* NoHoldsBarredBeatdown: She endured one from Seilah, who was using [[OneWingedAngel demonic power]].
* NoSell: Thanks to Satan Soul, things like poison have no effect on her. It prevents her from being turned into a demon by Tartaros because she already can turn into one, and made her immune to Seilah's [[PeoplePuppets Macro]].
* ObfuscatingInsanity: Zig-zagged. She comes across as a {{cloudcuckoolander}} at times, but there are a few moments that imply she's trying to hide her inner pain through her act. It's also mentioned that she tends to act like TheDitz as part of a persona she assumes.
* OurDemonsAreDifferent: Her spells transform her into different kinds of demons.
* PeoplePuppets: Uses Take Over on [[spoiler: Seilah, gaining her curse, Macro. She uses it to command Elfman to save her. After the second TimeSkip, she now has full access to Seilah's form after using take-over on her half-dead state after defeating her.]].
* PerkyGoth: In her youth, though she wasn't so much "perky" as she was HotBlooded.
* PinkMeansFeminine: She usually wears pink dresses.
* PowerGivesYouWings: Satan Soul.
* PowerMakesYourVoiceDeep: In her Satan Soul Takeovers.
* PowersViaPossession: Her family's trademark magic. Her particular brand is DemonicPossession.
* ProperLady: The apparent death of her little sister mellowed her into one of these. The threatened death of her brother turned her into SilkHidingSteel.
* PsychosomaticSuperpowerOutage: Her sister's death was such a shock that she hasn't been able to use her full power ever since until she is threatened with the loss of her ''remaining'' sibling.
* RedBaron: She used to be called "The Demon" or "The She-Devil", and [[ExactlyWhatItSaysOnTheTin for good reason]].
* RedRightHand: A few of her transformations still have the IdiotHair ponytail.
* TheRival: To Erza. They even had their own version of Natsu and Gray's slugfests when they were younger, though now they are good friends. Still relishes any opportunity to bring Erza down a peg. She is also this to Jenny Realight of Blue Pegasus due to their modeling careers.
* SaveTheVillain: She claims that [[spoiler:her Take Over: Seilah was an example of this, as Lisanna points out that Seilah was about to die. Gray's still incredulous that Mirajane counts stealing her body as an example of this]].
* SealedInAPersonShapedCan: [[spoiler: She used Take Over on all the members of Tartarus. Though funnily enough this seems to be her way of showing mercy, since they would have all permanently died if left alone.]]
* ShamelessFanserviceGirl: She quickly agrees to a modelling contest in her fight with Jenny to show off her body. Though she at least has more control over herself than Erza.
* ShamuFu: In the Eclipse Celestial Spirits arc, she takes down Pisces by grabbing the mother by the tail and whacking the son with her shark body.
* ShipperOnDeck: Natsu/Lucy, in an omake.
* ShutUpHannibal: She does this to Laxus when he mocks Shadow Gear and Lucy for their weakness in the war with Phantom Lord, and points out that Makarov insisted that ''no one'' was to blame, adding that includes Laxus himself, who [[AchillesInHisTent didn't help]]. Laxus is unfazed, though.
* SleevesAreForWimps: Wears spaghetti strap dresses. As a child, she wore tank tops.
* SiblingTeam: With Elfman and Lisanna until the latter's death. [[DoubleSubversion Subverted again when Lisanna comes back.]]
* SilkHidingSteel: So sweet and adorable and spacey, it's easy to forget she's an S-Class wizard.
* SitcomArchnemesis: Was this to ''Erza'' in her childhood.
* {{Stripperiffic}}: Her Satan Soul Take Over.
* SuperpoweredEvilSide: Satan Soul is a subversion. She's extremely angry the first time she uses it after Lisanna's death, so it seems like this at first.
* TeamMom: Is pretty much the entire guild's mother, which is kinda creepy considering she's also their poster girl.
* TearsOfFear: [[spoiler:When faced with the two strongest members of the Spriggan 12]].
* TearsOfJoy: When she reunites with her NotQuiteDead sister Lisanna.
* TheTease: Comes with her status as an in-universe gravure model. Sometimes will use her transformation magic to turn into other women (Lucy usually becomes the unwilling target) and makes sexy poses for the men.
* TenderTears: In most of her emotional moments, her tears are more subdued compared to the males.
* TerribleArtist: Her drawings look like those of a kindergartener.
* TomboyAndGirlyGirl: She was the tomboy to Lisanna's girly girl. Currently averted.
* TomboyishPonytail: When she was younger.
* TookALevelInKindness: Her backstory. She's still got a [[BewareTheNiceOnes dark side, though]].
* TransformationSequence: When she does her Satan Soul Takeover magic.
%%* TuckAndCover
* UnstoppableRage: Pretty much her main power. Mirajane ''really'' let Fried have it after he hurt Elfman.
* UsedToBeATomboy: When she was younger, Mirajane was a [[TheLadette Ladette]] who bad-mouthed everyone and always picked fights with Erza. It comes as a shock given the gentle and feminine TeamMom she is now, though piss her off and she'll show you she can be just as vicious now as back then.
* VoluntaryShapeshifting: Very good at this and acting the roles.
* WeaknessTurnsHerOn: In an anime-only flashback, she is seen blushing over a crying Natsu, much to her sister's dismay.
* WhoWearsShortShorts: As a kid.
* WillfullyWeak: She says that when she's with others, she restrains herself to avoid causing collateral damage to her allies. So when she's separated from them, [[CurbStompBattle well...]]. Justified, as her backstory was fleshed out in Chapter 381.
* TheWorfEffect: She was already having an incredibly hard time fighting Seilah of Tartarus, who was doing nothing but using {{telekinesis}} to [[ThrowTheBookAtThem pelt her with books]]. When Mirajane decides to use Satan Soul: Sitri, Seilah responds by going OneWingedAngel and hits her with a KamehameHadouken so hard that Mirajane is actually [[SoLastSeason forced out of her transformation]].
* WreathedInFlames: Satan Soul: Sitri.
* ZettaiRyouiki: When she was younger. Also, her Satan Soul Take Over.

!!Lisanna Strauss
!!!Voiced by: Creator/HarumiSakurai (Japanese), Creator/CarrieSavage (English)
[[quoteright:253:http://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/lisanan_2014.jpg]]

The youngest of the Strauss siblings, Lisanna uses a variety of Takeover magic called Animal Soul to assume the forms and abilities of animals. She was believed dead after an accident on a mission with her siblings. She is later discovered alive and well in the parallel world of Edolas, and she rejoins her guild after safely returning to Earth-land.
----
* ActionGirl: Can transform parts or all of her body into those of animals in a form of magic called "Animal Soul".
* AdaptationExpansion: The anime gives her relationship with Natsu a lot more focus than the manga, especially in flashbacks. This eventually resulted in her being brought back in the manga
* {{Animorphism}}: Her style of Takeover allows her to take on the attributes and forms of animals.
* BookDumb: She's said to dislike studying, according to her profile.
* CatGirl: Due to her particular brand of [[PowersViaPossession Takeover]], Animal Soul, she can turn herself into a white tiger-girl.
* ChildhoodFriendRomance: Apparently with Natsu before her supposed death. Subverted since she later comes back, but nothing has happened between them. However, that hasn't stopped the anime producers from injecting the series with tons of ShipTease moments between them.
* ChildhoodMarriagePromise: In a joking way with Natsu.
* DeadPersonImpersonation: When she first arrived in Edolas, that world's version of her siblings mistook her for the one from their world, who had coincidentally died, so she reluctantly took on the role so as to not cause them any grief. However, her cover is blown when the reversed Anima forces her to return to Earth-land, though by that point, her siblings from Edolas had already figured out who she really was.
* FatalFlaw: While it hasn't gotten her or anyone else killed, Lisanna has on two separate occasions underestimated someone at the exact moment when she should be completely on her guard.
* FeminineWomenCanCook: She tells Natsu that her sister taught her everything on how to cook.
* FlatCharacter: As a result of being OutOfFocus, she doesn't exactly have as many characteristics that make her stick out from the rest of the cast.
* {{Flight}}: One of the more common uses of her powers is to completely or partially transform into a bird and fly.
* FragileSpeedster: She classifies herself as this, and when facing Wall Eehto's Weakness Soldiers, goes after the fast ones.
* FurBikini: She wears a striped bikini in her CatGirl form.
* GirlishPigtails: She begins wearing pigtails after the second TimeSkip.
* HarpingOnAboutHarpies: Her Animal Soul can change her arms into wings and her lower part of the body into bird legs and tail.
* HartmanHips: While her bust isn't as ridiculously large as some of her fellow guild mates, her hips seem very large and shapely by comparison.
* HesJustHiding: InUniverse. It turns out she wasn't killed during Elfman's rampage, but was simply knocked out and got caught in one of the Anima portals that transported her to Edolas. Though [[FridgeLogic one has to wonder how Mirajane could watch Lisanna's body suddenly disappear and misinterpret it as dying]], seeing as she was right there when it happened.
* IChooseToStay: {{Subverted|Trope}}. While this ''is'' her initial choice when Earth-land's Natsu and Happy appear at the Edolas Fairy Tail, as she doesn't want to upset Edolas' versions of her siblings, it is rendered moot once the Anima is reversed, forcing her to return to Earth-land. It also turns out Edo!Mirajane and Edo!Elfman knew her secret all along, and they wish her well as she heads back.
* IdiotBall: Instead of leaving Azuma unaware of Mirajane's abilities while he fights her, she practically ''brags'' about what her sister is capable of which ruins the element of surprise.
* IKnowYoureInThereSomewhereFight: The anime reveals she tried this to calm Elfman when he went on a rampage during his Full-Body Takeover attempt. [[AvertedTrope The key word here is "tried"]].
* InnocentBlueEyes: She shares her sister's baby blues, and is a real sweetheart.
* ItsAllMyFault: Feels responsible for Mirajane's HeroicSacrifice against Azuma in the Sirius Island arc. Elfman, who'd also lost to one of the Seven Kin of Purgatory, resulting in himself and his partner Evergreen being seriously injured, notes that their opponents are simply too strong.
* KindheartedCatLover: She is noted to have a fondness for cats in her profile. It's quite telling that her favorite combat form is part-cat, and she was more than happy to help Natsu raise Happy.
* TheLostLenore: She and Natsu were close when they were kids and her death affected him greatly. It's ultimately subverted with the reveal that she didn't die, though they've barely had any meaningful interactions since.
* MysticalWhiteHair: Just like her brother and sister.
* NiceGirl: She's cheerful and friendly, and it's said that this part of her enabled her to fit in at the Edolas Fairy Tail despite the fact that their Lisanna had died.
* NotQuiteDead: She was thought to have been killed during Elfman's rampage, followed by being dragged into a mysterious hole in the sky. However, the reality is that she was transported to Edolas, where she had been living all along.
* OffscreenMomentOfAwesome: In the Alvarez Empire arc, [[spoiler:she and Elfman somehow manage to edge out a win against Ajeel, one of the strongest wizards on the face of Earth-land. While most of what we see involves the two siblings struggling, their exact method of victory is not shown.]]
* OutOfFocus: You'd think that someone who plays a huge part in Natsu's background development would be high up on the established side-character list, or, at the very least, begin to hang around Natsu again due to their childhood friendship. That has not been the case ever since her return from Edolas.
* PartialTransformation: Though she is also adept at the Full-Body version.
* ThePollyanna: According to Natsu, she always had a smile on her face no matter the circumstances.
* PosthumousCharacter: Subverted. She is initially believed to have been accidentally killed by Elfman about two years before the start of the series, making her only appearances through flashbacks. However, she was actually caught in an Anima portal after Elfman attacked her, and she was transported to Edolas.
* PowersViaPossession: Like her siblings, she uses Takeover magic to obtain the form of any animal she comes into contact with.
* ShipperOnDeck: She is quite supportive of Natsu's relationship with Lucy, especially in the anime. She also ships Elfman and Evergreen.
%%* ShipTease: With Natsu.
%%* TaremeEyes
* TomboyAndGirlyGirl: She was once the girly girl to Mirajane's tomboy, though since Mirajane became more feminine after Lisanna's supposed death, this is currently averted.
* TookALevelInBadass: After the second TimeSkip, [[spoiler:she's able to help her brother take on Ajeel, one of the strongest wizards on the face of Earth-land, and ''win''.
* VoluntaryShapeshifting: Like all Takeover wizards, she can transform into different creatures at will, with animals being her specialty.
* WalkingSpoiler: Pretty straightforward for people getting into ''Fairy Tail'': a former dead person turns out to be NotQuiteDead.
* YouCantGoHomeAgain: For a while, Lisanna is unable to return to Earth-land thanks to her being stuck in Edolas. She finally returns to Earth-land after Faust's defeat, however.

She had initially lost most of her fighting ability due to the grief of losing her

However, she has since regained her demon powers to Earth-land.protect her guild.

Added DiffLines:

* PowerGivesYouWings: Satan Soul.
* WhoWearsShortShorts: As a kid.
* WreathedInFlames: Satan Soul: Sitri.
* ZettaiRyouiki: When she was younger. Also, her Satan Soul Take Over.

He is an expert lightning wizard, and a second-generation Thunder Dragon Slayer courtesy of an artificial dragon lacrima implant given to him by his excommunicated father, Ivan. However, after Makarov expels him from the guild for endangering the lives of his friends, he becomes a kinder and humbler man, and is reinstated into the guild by Gildarts for his heroism against Hades on Sirius Island.

The grandson of Makarov Dreyar and son of Ivan Dreyar, Laxus is an S-Class wizard and heir to the title of Fairy Tail's guild master. When he starts out, he values strength above all else and doesn't get along well with most of his fellow guildmates, particularly his grandfather. However, after Makarov expels him from the guild following the Battle of Fairy Tail, he decides to become a better person to the point that he rejoins the guild by the time Natsu and the others are on Sirius Island. He is an expert lightning wizard, and is also the Thunder Dragon Slayer via artificially implanted magic courtesy of his excommunicated father Ivan.

* HeroicBuild: He's really muscular and becomes a more heroic person.
* HeroicSacrifice: Instead of dodging an incredibly large and powerful attack from Hades, he takes it. All so he could give all his magical power to Natsu. Why? Because it was Fairy Tail that was hurt, and a member of Fairy Tail should be the one to return it 100-fold.

** Seems to be a case of StrongFamilyResemblance. While Laxus resembles his Grandfather the most, he also bears a strong enough resemblance to his great-grandfather, Yuri (the 4th unknown founder of FT) that fans immediately guessed that the 4th founder was Makarov's father. And of course, Ivan is the BlackSheep of the family.
* ItsPersonal: [[InvertedTrope Inverted]]. He gives his power to Natsu instead of fighting Hades himself specifically because he feels as he wasn't a member of Fairy Tail anymore, he shouldn't be the one to take out Hades. See CharacterDevelopment above.
** Played straight against Raven Tail as he was not happy about how his own father would hurt his family.
* KickTheDog: After refusing to help out against Phantom Lord, he mocks Shadow Gear for being weak enough to lose to Gajeel, and blames Lucy for the entire guild war. Erza and Mirajane understandably do ''not'' react well to it.
* {{Leitmotif}}: The prevalant music from the Fighting Festival arc. Becomes very apparent when it starts playing again after he storms in to attack Hades.
* LightEmUp: He knows how to perform Fairy Law which is one of the "Three Great Fairy Magics" distinct to the Fairy Tail Guild.
* LightIsNotGood: Applies if you go by the alternate spelling of his name, [[SpellMyNameWithAnS Luxus]] (Lux is latin for light). Subverted at the end of the Fantasia arc; he was GoodAllAlong.
This doesn't even take into account him being a Dragon Slayer or having Fairy Law in his arsenal. A perfect example of this comes up in his fight with Mystogan: Mystogan hit him with a devastating spell that took so long to set up that he needed to use illusions to keep Laxus occupied and buy himself enough time to cast it. When Laxus figured this out, he hit Mystogan with an equally powerful spell that he just fired off in the seconds it took for the latter's spell to activate. (although the two are considered to be equals, Laxus is more combat oriented while Mystogan specializes in stealth and utility).
** Interestingly, before his CharacterDevelopment, he had a tendency to turn himself into a FragileSpeedster[=/=]GlassCannon. His [[{{Pride}} arrogance]] had him cast ridiculously powerful and costly spells (read: Fairy Law) when he really didn't need to, which caused him to wear himself out and make it easier (read: actually possible) for Natsu to beat him. However, he's since grown out of this.
* ManlyTears: When he is excommunicated, Fairy Tail gives him the send-off of a lifetime to let him know that [[CrowningMomentOfHeartwarming they still consider him one of their own]], causing him to cry on his way out.
* MySignificanceSenseIsTingling: Right after Makarov is defeated by Hades.
* NotSoStoic: Cries when he is forced to leave Makarov behind to save the others when faced with Acnologia. Also during the Magic Tournament, he enjoyed his fight with Jura and definitely was not emotionless.
* OrcusOnHisThrone: [[JustifiedTrope Justified]]. No matter how much he hates Fairy Tail's reputation, he doesn't have the stomach to directly kill anyone.
* PetTheDog: Even before learning his lesson, he did treat the Thunder Legion with respect and had a fair amount of pride in their abilities, with them being his only friends within the guild.
** Another quick one is telling the guild to let it go about Mystogan putting them to sleep, because he's shy. He immediately goes to insulting everyone else, but still.
** He doesn't object to his grandfather's attempt to perform a HeroicSacrifice, not because he doesn't care, but out of respect for Makarov's decision. [[spoiler:When Makarov finally does a HeroicSacrifice, he comforts Mavis and asks her to continue on for the sake of the guild and Makarov]].
* {{Pride}}: The reason for his rebellion, and his defining character trait pre-excommunication. After his return, he still has pride in his admittedly monstrous abilities, but it's majorly toned down and he no longer believes his power makes him better than everybody else.
* PsychoElectro: He's a Lightning Dragon Slayer and starts out evil. [[CharacterDevelopment He gets better]].
* PutOnABus: At the end of the Fantasia arc.
* RedemptionEqualsAffliction: Laxus' fate at the beginning of the Tartarus arc, as he sucks up all the Bane particles released by Tempester, which puts him out of commission for most of the arc.
%%* RedOniBlueOni: He's the red one.
* RideTheLightning: He can turn himself into lightning to dodge an attack or travel short distances.
* RuggedScar: Has a scar shaped like a lightning bolt over his eye.
* ShipperOnDeck: Implied to be one of Evergreen and Elfman, given his snarky comments and knowing nod toward them at the end of the Tenrou Island arc.
* ShockAndAwe: His main form of magic.
* SmokingIsCool: At first, but it was dropped early in the manga, and removed entirely in the anime.
* SmugSuper: Pre-CharacterDevelopment he was an utter {{Jerkass}} but also the ''strongest'' member of the guild outside of both Makarov and Gildarts, and everyone and him knew it. Post-development has him tone it down considerably, but there's no denying the fact he's still one of the strongest and is ''very'' much aware of that fact.
* SocialDarwinist: He initially believes that Fairy Tail should adopt this ideal in order to become stronger.
* TheStoic: After returning, he has a calm demeanor.
* TameHisAnger: Upon his return after the fight at Sirius Island, Laxus has mellowed out considerably.
* ThisIsSomethingHesGotToDoHimself: He gives his power to Natsu instead of fighting Hades himself because he believes it needs to be a member of Fairy Tail to take him down.
* TookALevelInBadass: A interesting version. He was already the second strongest person in the guild after Gildarts but after getting kicked from the guild and [[TameHisAnger taming his anger]] he improved his fighting style significantly upon returning. So much so that he beats Jura in a straight fight.
** Earlier than this, Laxus was actually rather scrawny and weak as a child, leading his father to implant Lightning Dragon Slayer Lacrima into him to remedy this.
* TookALevelInJerkass: After his father's excommunication, Laxus becomes a jerk to his grandfather and everyone else at the guild.
* TookALevelInKindness: Loses his arrogant, apathetic nature after returning to help Team Natsu against Hades.
* UsedToBeASweetKid: In flashbacks, he looked up to his grandfather and thought Fairy Tail was a great guild. All that changed when he started having to deal with being the master's grandson, and after his father's excommunication.
* UseYourHead: In the anime, he delivers a [[JustForPun shockingly effective one to Hades immediately the following above mentioned case of a double take.]]
* WaveMotionGun: Thunder Dragon Roar.
* WeaksauceWeakness: Like all Dragon Slayers, he also suffers from motion sickness. While it's never been shown, he's apparently had it for awhile, though he tells Mirajane not to tell Natsu, since he'd NeverLiveItDown.
* WalkingTheEarth: When he is excommunicated. He eventually returns.
* WellIntentionedExtremist: In his own way, he loves his guild and hates it when anyone laughs at it. He just focuses on its reputation more than its actual members, and ends up endangering their lives because of it.
* WholeCostumeReference: Anime only. In the Fantasia arc, his outfit resembles what [[Manga/GetBackers Ginji Amano]] wore back when he was known as the [[NamesToRunAwayFromReallyFast Lightning Emperor of the Limitless Fortress.]]
* WorfHadTheFlu: [[spoiler: It's revealed the poison particles from Tempester weren't completely healed from his body and he's been in chronic pain since. Wahl manages to pinpoint this weakness during his battle against Laxus and, not surprisingly, the pain kicks in just as Wahl activates his super form.]]
* WorthyOpponent: In his own, [[SmugSuper round-about way]], he considered only Natsu and Erza strong enough to fight the Thunder God Tribe during his Fairy Games. He also considered Mystogan the only member of Fairy Tail who'd probably stand a chance against him in a one-on-one, if only for the fact that [[DarkhorseVictory Mystogan was the one opponent whose magic he wasn't familiar with]].
