In rejecting the voice with the warmth of sunshine and emerging from the cover of parasols her newfound power blossomed from admitting to the selfishness of such an ideal. Even if there's no-one left to follow her, even if the world forsook her and she did it, Dongbaek will walk forward towards a newer more innocent world returned to beautiful meadows and a breathtaking blue sky. The mind-sinking puddles and resentful umbrellas of Sunshower pale in comparison to the piquant fragrance spread by the flowers blooming on her person and the environment around her. And this scent is often accompanied by powerful gusts of wind from her fan ranging from precise, crushing gales to all-encompassing cyclones. The Spicebush E.G.O is a reference to the work written by Korean author Gim Yujeong "The Camellias", of whom Dongbaek is named after. The story describes a character, Jumsoon resting under the yellow camellia flowers representing budding if not intimate attraction to the protagonist. While no such flowers exist in Korea, the closest equivalent and potentially what Gim colloequially referred to the local Lindera obtusiloba otherwise known as blunt-lobed spicebush.

spicebush. And in real life, Gim Yujeong was close to fellow author Kim Hae-Gyeong (who went by Yi Sang as his penname) due to also suffering tuberculosis to the point where they tried to form a suicide pact though the plan fell through with as Kim soon moved to Tokyo. The two would pass away in 1937 just month apart.

This guilt wouldn't last, however, as he soon embraced his ambition and wish to head towards the future with his first act being to kill Yi Sang to finally escape from the League's shadow. That same plow-turned-scythe . Ironically, in spite of all of his talk of advancing himself, the real life author Yi Sang came to see the humble farmer as symbolic of Korea's stagnation as a country. In addition the aforementioned stage play, The Cow, featured a mareum as a villain who eventually took the farmer's cow but would no sooner meet his karmic end by said animal. While the roles were reversed here, Dongrang would still meet his end at the hands of Yi Sang just moments after manifesting E.G.O and failing to move forward like he wanted, forever embraced by the shadows of the past that gripped him.

For this reason sunshowers also referred to as "fox rain". It fits Dongbaek to a tee, being left in the rain as the League irreprovably cracked and one of her closer friends leaving with someone else in the accident that scarred her. There is also another meaning to the E.G.O and her usage of it: Drifting Fox also represents of the resentment directed against empty gestures of kindness, the kind akin to giving the homeliness a broken umbrella. You may pat yourself on the back for such a good deed but that umbrella is full of holes and they're still huddled underneath the rain. If anything, such a gesture is comparable to ignoring the downtrodden to begin with. Though Dongbaek rallied those with hatred for technology and their destruction they wrecked upon the world, ultimately they are stepping stones for her own goals of resetting the world and recreating the happiness the League once shared for future generations. ** A hometown friend of Yi Sang and Dongrang who joined the League of Nine with them was fond of fireworks as they reminded her of home in S Corp where the stars were as clear as day. Alas, no such sky could be seen in T Corp's smoggy and colorless light-polluted skies hence her admiration for pyrotechnics. Dongbaek was of a cheerful sort, a bit of a jokester and an enthusiastic member of the League though was a realist in not really looking towards using any of their technologies for good if it wasn't going to meaningfully change the City. The happiness they had here in the moment mattered more.

* What did you think the famous such as when people saw a moving film for the first time, or when the original plane took to the skies? Did they have stars in their eyes and wonder in their heart when such creations were brought to life? This simple joy was what drove the League of Nine Littérateurs, a society operating in T Corp after moving from Nest S composed of inventors and tech enthusiasts who held illuminators conferences to showcase the inventions they privately made for their hobbies. Among the members are Yi Sang, Dongbaek, and Dongrang who hailed from the same hometown. They were an innocent bunch, taking time out of their busy lives to fund their private ventures but this time of peace would not last. Cracks began to form as members came and went, the group was barely scraping by economically, and their technology was soon at risk from being confiscated due to not having the prerequisite registration. Some members began caving into pressure and sold out the League for their personal safety with the final fracture being a raid conducted by T Corp's agents ending in the League's building burning to ash, scattering any of the remaining members with it.

fireworks as they reminded her of home in S Corp where the stars were as clear as day.
*** Following the League dissolution she became a bitter shell and at some point joined the terrorist syndicate known as the Technology Liberation Alliance where she swayed many of the downtrodden under her banner and would raid an abandoned L Corp laboratory in K Corp, one that happened to be occupied by Dongrang. In truth, however, Dongbaek's goals did not end with technology's abolishment as in destroying them she hoped the technologies would be rediscovered anew. Unfortunately, Dongbaek would never fulfill her wish as she was stopped by Yi Sang and the rest of Limbus Company with Dongrang finishing her off with the Golden Bough. Her goals scattered to the wind, as transient as a flower in bloom and the fireworks she loved so much. Though, she would help Yi Sang by encouraging him to fly towards the future and break free of the sloth and stagnation that gripped him.

animals. He took care of strays simply because they were suffering and under ailments, but Dongrang was most fond of a yellow calf who was abandoned by his mother. Fittingly, Dongrang's specialty was with medicine and took pride in it as he cared for animals. Slowly, however, this benevolent outlook was chipped away as visitors flocked to other League member's technologies but not his own. Dongrang then came to one conclusion: That the technology he made, and by extension himself, had no value if it had no immediate use let alone the capacity to change the world. He soon went off the deep end after being forced to destroy his work in a Concept Incinerator to prevent it from being taken and coming across the emerging technology of K Corp, culminating in him selling them out for his own ends.
*** He soon found himself working for K Corp and in discovering the dark secret behind the Ampules, he used Glass technology stolen from the League to hasten tear production. What was once technology that brought simple joy was soon appropriated for nightmarish ends. Dongrang would soon rise to be the Branch Manager of K Corp's Food Resource Development but despite such status and being surrounded by awards he knew in his heart such trophies were hollow and even as he craved more the guilt from what he became threatened to consume him. This guilt wouldn't last, however, as he soon embraced his ambition and wish to head towards the future with his first act being to kill Yi Sang to finally escape from the League's shadow. Alas, Yi Sang would put him down first, having soared with the wings filled with the memories of the League while Dongrang failed to even take off and was embraced by the shadow. Dongrang's work in advancing his status would also be for naught as following his death K Corp would use him as a scapegoat for the incident involving the Technology Liberation Alliance.

* Carol, self-declared Murderer of Miracles, was originally the daughter of an alchemist named Izak living in medieval Europe. One day, a plague hit the village the two lived in, and out of goodwill, her father used his knowledge of alchemy to save them. Unfortunately, the villagers didn't take kindly to it and repaid their savior by burning him at the stake. Before dying, Isaac's parting words were for his daughter to not bear any grudges and experience the world but Carol twisted it into a quest of dissecting it in its entirety instead, having been consumed by vengeance and a burning hatred towards all miracles. To accomplish this, she intended to use the Château de Tiffauges to dissect and deconstruct the entire world using its leylines, literally bringing about the apocalypse on the planet.

** Elfnein, a homunculus copy of herself created to assist Carol, opposed her as she believed this wasn't what their father intended which led to her banishment. Before leaving, Elfnein took with her pieces of the cursed sword Dainsleif to stop her original. While Dainsleif allowed the Symphogears to attain newer forms this, in truth, only helped further her goals and was an intended outcome. The Autoscorers slain by the "cursed songs" of Dainsleif would only help her dissect the planet. Despite this intricate plan and putting up a hell of a fight even after the Château's destruction, Carol was ultimately defeated and left an amnesiac from abusing memory-burning alchemy before lending her body to a dying Elfnein. Elfnein herself would continue to assist the Symphogears alongside S.O.N.G. while also trying to bring back Carol. Her efforts would be rewarded when Carol reemerged during the conflict involving Noble Red and Shem-Ha Mor though the ancient alchemist would ultimately perish for good in the final battle against the latter, finally joining her father's side in the afterlife.

* Elfnein would be the first of the two to ascend, having been brought along some time after Genjuro Kazanari had ascended to assist the present Symphogear users. She ended up taking a title pertaining to yies due to Carol's usage of hopping to newer homunculi bodies with her memories copied and pasted over with Elfnein being one of them made for a separate purpose. Said memory transferring was also how Carol saved Elfnein's life and would be how Elfnein would reconstitute Carol later on. The small homunculus wasn't the type to clamor for a position in the Pantheon though she accepted not just to help her friends but also clinging onto the possibility of it being a way to meet Carol once more. It didn't happen immediately, but while walking with Hibiki she managed to catch a glimpse of a familiar face within a crowd. Her intuition is proved correct when after some searching she manages to reunite with her other self who was presently with her father. Carol was caught off guard when Elfnein rushed over to hug her but reciprocated the gesture. As a celebration for the two reuniting in the Pantheon they spent the next few days reconstructing the four Autoscorers.

** While Elfnein continues to assist her newfound friends, Carol is content with living the peaceful life she once had with her father before her quest of destruction with the bonus inclusion of her Autoscorers this time around. While Carol would like it if Elfnein live her own life, if the situation calls she will help out her other self at her word. And a word of warning: Don't force her to take the stage herself by threatening those she cares about. She will show people that the Murderer of Miracles isn't just a fanciful title she chose for herself and just why she's one of the most dangerous people the Symphogears ever faced.

* Contrasting the Symphogears, Carol uses a Faust Robe whose Relic that serves as a basis is a harp. Specifically the harp of the Daga, Dur da Blá (more commonly known as Uaithne). But unlike the harps like King David's or Princess Zelda's, the Slaughtering Harp is used for more destructive ends making it more closer to the guitar Haruko Haruhara uses. It not only amplifies the alchemy Carol uses but she can also use the strings of Dur da Blá for a variety of purposes either forming it as weapons, entangling things, or outright slicing them to ribbons. Being the wife of the Dagda, the Morrigan was not pleased with Carol and the appropriation of her husband's harp.

* In the Pantheon, the two exist as different people though Elfnein still possesses the body Carol left behind for her. Aside from their demeanor, eyes, and the length of their ponytails, the two are otherwise identical, more so than when they did have "different" bodies, and one would even be forgiven for mistaking the two as twins when they're both around. Even the Autoscorers noted this upon being reconstituted by the two in the Pantheon and just decided to roll with the fact that they have two masters now who are nearly exactly alike though they never differentiate from the two to both Carol and Elfnein's confusion. Izak found the situation more bewildering but has already long accepted Elfnein is, in a way, another daughter of his. Fitting, since Elfnein certainly cherished him as much as Carol did, enough to convince her to stop rather than pursue her revenge. If anything, one could consider Elfnein to be the little girl that Carol once was before everything went wrong.

* At the behest of Elfnein's friends and some prodding from Carol's father and Elfnein herself, the two went out of their way to make new acquaintances in the Pantheon. As it turns out the two are far from the only homunculi here. Carol clicked with Illyasviel, a homunculus created by the Einzbern family created as a vessel for the Holy Grail, whose anger also stemmed from problems involving her own father albeit for the opposite reasons. It helped that she was already familiar with Hibiki, who in some ways reminded Illya of her brother Shirou Emiya, and the Wielder was happy to help the two of them get along well enough though not with some light bickering here and there. Elfnein connected more with the other Illya, who became a MagicalGirl, and she thought much of the same. There was Irisviel, Illya's mother, who was also a homunculus created by the Einzberns for the same reasons, and she ecstatically met the two upon hearing that her Illya(s) made new friends. Hearing of their story one day moved the woman to tears and embraced the two of them, much to their shock (and annoyance from Carol). Since then, the two frequently meet up with the Illyas, even hanging out around Iri and Kiritsugu's temple. Kiritsugu found the homunculi to be peculiar, or rather just Carol really given her history but decided to let it go since regardless his daughters are happy. That being said, he doesn't know what to think about the Autoscorers who sometimes tag along Carol and Elfnein.
-> Irisviel: Oh, it's quite late out now. If you want, I can drive us all-\\
Carol: [Brandishing a teleportation gem and grabbing Elfnein's hand] That will not be necessary. Thank you for your offer, however.\\
Prisma!Illya: H-Hey wait a second!\\
[Carol smashes the gem onto the ground, warping herself and Elfnein away in a magenta light.]

* Carol took after alchemy like father and in the several hundred years following his execution she has far surpassed him in sheer knowledge, even managing to discover how to create Autoscorers and homunculi. Said knowledge was what helped her become so strong to take on the world in the first place. Her strength even surpasses the Bavarian Illuminati's top brass barring Adam, a SuperPrototype to humanity, though more heavy usage of her alchemy comes at the cost of burning her memories. Elfnein, while not possessing any fighting capability of her own, is still capable in her own right through the alchemical knowledge she inherited from Carol. It's because of this she remains a crucial member of S.O.N.G. as she has been a help with not just on alchemy but on heretical technology in general. Such tech was lost to history and kept secret but those who do know but no such secrecy exists in the Pantheon, which is as fantastical as it can get with many gods having knowledge in alchemy and many other technological fields and sciences for that matter.

** One day, the two were approached by the famed Edward and Alphonse Elric who wanted to meet with Elfnein and Carol. Part of it was because they hailed from a universe where the practice of alchemy was seen as normal barring the more sinister arts but it was also motivated out of a concern regarding Carol. They know about the general details regarding the Magical Girl Incident but wanted to learn more. Elfnein was quick to vouch for Carol, accepting that while she had committed many sins Carol also came through for her multiple times and even helped save the world from Shem-ha with no strings attached, even if it came at the cost of her life that Elfnein spent so much time trying to salvage. The two were more at ease with this situation, especially Ed despite there being enough similarities for him and Carol to clash as he eventually gave up the ability to use alchemy for good to save Al when he gave up himself to save him from Father. While brothers left on agreeable terms with both (though they were closer to Elfnein) their allies from back home, however, were obviously quite distrustful of Carol. Not helping things is Carol herself not being in any hurry to try and convince them otherwise. For what it's worth, they do share a common enemy in the form of Father and his followers such as the Homunculi (barring Greed) and Dante, as well as other malicious alchemists like Relius Clover.

** Elfnein clicked with the likes of Shulk and Tails almost immediately given their pechants for machinery. Shulk admits her curiosity and focus on work reminds him of himself as well as his son Nichol while Elfnein was surprised hearing that early on in his life he of all people swore bloody revenge on the Machina following their attack on Colony 9, being reminded of Carol's own growing hatred after seeing her father burn at the stake before her very eyes. Unlike Carol, however, he never quite lost himself in his rage as his resolve became conflicted when the truth behind the Machina's invasion slowly revealed itself culminating in him choosing to not kill Egil after beating his Machina, Yaldabaoth, and successfully talked him down. When it comes to Tails is reminded of his own role and contributions to Sonic and his friends as well as the confidence issues he once held when pairing his skills to theirs before finding his own footing. She has his full support against the nefarious Dr. Eggman.

** Carol herself would meet with Plague Knight and Mona during a trip to the beach with the Autoscorers (her father and Elfnein each had their own commitments) where Leuir and Micha helped fight off a Daimyo Hermitaur and blowing it up and somehow also cooking it to perfection. Plague Knight and Mona bore witness to the whole ordeal and after an offhand mention that Carol was an alchemist like the she was dragged into an extensive conversation about explosives over some lunchYes, the Daimyo Hemitaur ended up becoming said lunch. By the end of it the two suggested helping pitch in with the fireworks show later that day, making a note of wanting to upstage the store bought fireworks with something more authentic. Carol was apprehensive but Leiur and Micha were and dragged their master into it anyway. Upon finishing and seeing their collective handiwork in action begrudgingly admitted she actually had fun with their little project. It's said Carol pops up every now and then to help with whatever plan they're concocting next.

* The Pantheon is home to a number of fantastic beings, homunculi and other artificial clones being among them. There were of course the aforementioned other homunculi under Father, for one, who menaced the Pantheon under his command. And though it may not be apparent at first glance Grima himself is a homunculus created by the late alchemist Forneus who experimented on divine dragon blood and Grima became the result. Alm and Celica originally defeated him within the depths of the Thabes Labyrinth but he would meet his end at the hands of Chrom and Robin. Surprise surprise, neither of the two are fond of the dragon for damning the world in the BadFuture where it took over Robin. When it comes to clones there was Sophie, a copy of a witch who also suffered betrayal in the past despite the good she did for Elsysadr and used the opportunity of coming back to have her revenge. This commonality between her and Carol was not lost to either and intensified after Carol caught her harassing the FIS Symphogears with Sophie opening fire on her as well. This ended poorly for Sophie as she was caught by Dur da Blá's strings before being nailed with Elemental Slaughter which should have spelled the end for the cloned witch but she miraculously survived and limped all the way back to her allies. She has not forgotten the humiliation set by Carol and promised to take revenge and come back with an army at her side. Carol matter of factly stated she'd still stomp her and every last one of the goons she brings into the ground. As a precaution, she also gave Elfnein and the rest of S.O.N.G the information that her Autoscorers gleaned from their spy missions following the debacle with Sophie.

* Emperor Belos in his insane quest to rid the Pantheon of the non-human gods and any humans "corrupted" by their influence has set his sights on many gods and goddesses. Elfnein and Carol were of course included, citing their nature as homunculi and the stunt involving the planet's dissection. The feeling is more than mutual given not only his past as a witch hunter but also the many, many atrocities he committed against the Boiling Isles including an attempted genocide. What also stuck out for the two, however, was how he treated the Grimwalker clones of his brother, Caleb, whom he originally struck them. As a matter of fact, he continuously slaughtered said clones over the years. Elfnein was horrified by this, and Carol, even as someone who manipulated Elfnein, found him beyond deplorable. Elfnein quickly alerted her friends of the threat Belos posed while Carol noted that he is one of the few people she will rally against in spite of not wanting to be involved with. To her, he's on the same level as Shem-ha.

* Carol did a double-take when she saw the hero known as Momotaro in the flesh while walking home. No, it wasn't because of seeing him in person: Being from a world with Relics blunts the emotional impact of such an idea. Rather, it was because she once dreamt of Elfnein being a similar figure but rather than be associated with peaches it was with shrimp. It was a really weird dream.

* One day, Elfnein came home to their temple with a mysterious young woman with a sentient stuffed rabbit on her head. The woman introduced herself as Eirudy and she asked Elfnein if she could visit for a while being not only curious of the alchemy they're familiar with but also fascinated by the Autoscorers as she dabbled with dolls with her magic. Unlike the Autoscorers, none of them were able to speak as she originally would have liked and was surprised to hear they directly drew from different facets of Carol's personality. Hearing that Eirudy's dolls were made to be her friends made Garie chime in that Carol held affection for them as well. Carol refuted that she of course cherished them given that they were integral for her original World Dissection plan but Elfnein and the other dolls commented that she also intended for them to receive a proper burial after coming back to life and holding off Noble Red for Elfnein. Tsundere Carol wasn't particularly amused by that but Eirudy had a good chuckle over it having confirmed they're pretty close at the end of the day. The deity since then has popped up every now and then in the future.

* Carol's memory burning alchemy intrigued the other members of their Hall, Kaiba and Jonas especially. For the former, his world processed memories into chips with similar fluidity to how memories were processed between Carol and Elfnein. For the latter, the roles of Receiver/Giver require them to secretly hold onto the memories discarded by the Community for the sake of their utopia. Should either of the current holders die, the memories are dispersed onto the populace. On their end, they hold an interest in the fact that Time Lords can store large amounts of their memories onto a personal possession to the point they become different people without them. Elfnein in particular would like to inquire the Doctor for more information but she hasn't been able to get in touch with any of their incarnations. You know how they are.

* They frequently go to the House of Pantheon/Food as eating at home isn't much of an option. Their father Izak, while having improved somewhat during his time in the Pantheon, is still very bad at cooking. Perhaps not quite LethalChef levels, especially to other gods who hold such a dubious honor, but that's hardly a praise and a low bar. The Autoscorers don't have that great of a track record either. Aside from Phara who is the only one to produce normal results, Garie's creations are spicy to a sadistic degree, Leuir's dishes are all flash but no substance or taste, and Micha's are outright inedible, poisonous purple smog and all. Thus, they resort to eating out or having take out. If not Shirabe's cooking then someone else's. Passerbys should beware when they do the former as the Autoscorers may get the idea, since they can't actually eat, to use their memory-stealing kisses to plunder memories of eating food and their tastes for themselves.

* It can be said that Carol's runs contrast to that of the Family Madrigal's. Whereas Izak met his end at the hands of the community he saved who regarded his use of alchemy as "a miracle that shouldn't have existed" thus leading to his daughter nursing a hatred for them, the family's matriarch Alma and her three children were saved by a miracle and after gaining powers from it they put it to good use serving the community. Their generosity paid off in the end when after Casita crumbled and the miracle faded the very same townsfolk they helped stood by their side and helped them rebuild. With that being said, none of the members have actually gone on to meet Carol herself as the title of "Murderer of Miracles" was not exactly an inviting one.
** As far as similarities are concerned, Carol's vengeance against the world bears similarity to the one that Lord Dracula of Castlevania harbored after losing his wife to a WitchHunt. Lord Dracula, however, was a more persistent threat to the world which necessitated a whole lineage to battle him throughout the eras though like Carol he did in a way find peace with his reincarnation, Soma Cruz, who after his adventure lived a good life with Mina Hakuba (who is hinted to be the reincarnation of Dracula's original love, even). The two are separate people in the Pantheon and Dracula continues to be a threat which neither Elfnein or Carol will take lying down though the former harbors some hope of him changing his ways one day. Such a thing did come to pass in one timeline.
