Uncanny Valley is IUEO now and the subjective version has been split; cleaning up misuse and ZCE in the process

** One notable (and noticeable) instance of this trope played straight is [[Film/PiratesOfTheCaribbeanTheCurseOfTheBlackPearl Port Royal]] in ''VideoGame/KingdomHeartsII'', where Sora and co. are wearing their regular clothes during UsefulNotes/TheGoldenAgeOfPiracy. ** The prequel trilogy was criticized for its pacing issues (particularly the decade-long TimeSkip between ''Film/ThePhantomMenace'' and ''Film/AttackOfTheClones''), with many important events happening off-screen. ** Some people criticized the fact that none of the characters in the Prequel Trilogy did more about the slavery on Tatooine, especially Padmé as she was actually in some position to make a difference. He came up with the idea that Vyce's attacks were able to hurt it, but -- according to Missingno, at least -- couldn't kill it, but it found being able to be hurt at all such a blow to the ego that it hid out in our dimension so Linkara would defeat Vyce. It was NOT afraid of Vyce; just sufficiently ''annoyed'' with him]].

!!!YMMV/CookieRun
* AuthorsSavingThrow:
** For the longest time, obtaining Magic Candy ingredients was a chore if you got the cookie after the event or ran out of ingredients from the trials, resulting in players having to spend gems and magic dust to obtain them. January 2021's update now has higher chances of players getting item pouches that contain the Magic Candy Ingredients for Cookies who have their own Trials (in other words, you can get them for Dark Choco, Milk and Purple Yam but not Herb, Moon Rabbit or Tiger Lily just yet). This also includes the Magic Candies for Moonlight, Fire Spirit, Sea Fairy, Dark Enchantress, and Wind Archer too.
** Want to get some Rainbow Cubes, Gems, or Coins with the cookie in your lobby? For the longest time you needed a certain cookie to obtain one of the three and would have to search online to figure it out and then swap them out if they weren't your current Lobby Cookie. In early 2021, this was changed so that you can have any cookie in the lobby and choose your reward.
** The Season 6 update bought about a bevy of unwelcome changes (see ContestedSequel below) that massively bought down the gameplay experience for fans, particularly those who don’t spend any money at all on the game, to the point where some threatened to delete their accounts and ''actual trucks'' displaying messages to Devsisters were parked outside their headquarters. Devsisters [[https://cookierunglobal.blogspot.com/2021/07/addressing-issues-regarding-season-6.html?m=1 finally responded]] and rolled back some of the more controversial choices in July 2021. These changes included prohibiting the use of [[ScrappyMechanic Invocation Cards]] in just about every competitive mode, reducing the minimum cookie level needed to use cards from 15 to 12, and making it so that a Cookie's skill starts at the beginning of a run again.
** In the Season 6 rehaul, the UI was derided for making things more complicated. The December 2021 update reverted the UI to the initial interface, but with additional buttons on the top for easier navigation, with [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OAxNUqt5hrY with announcement video]] even mentioning the return was due to fan feedback.
** The Grand Champion League was only for the highest skilled players or those who were willing to fork over 3000 gems to enter. The February 2022 update now reduces it to those who have 10,000 trophies.
** Speaking of Magic Candies, upgrading them for Common, Rare and Epic Cookies still tended to be a chore to do since it requires gathering materials in their Cookie Trials (which was only made worse by [[TheyChangedItNowItSucks the removal of bonus missions]]), which can take a long time, and upgrading Magic Candies only had a chance to succeed. However, the March 2022 Update removed the probability of the success and failure of upgrading Magic Candies, which made upgrading them ''much'' easier than before with or without bonus missions.

* In Creator/GrantMorrison's penultimate arc of ''Comicbook/NewXMen, Planet X,'' [[RefugeeFromTime Holocaust survivor]] [[Characters/MarvelComicsMagneto Magneto]] goes more and more mindlessly berserk as the arc wears on, culminating in his beginning to herd all surviving baseline humans in New York into crematoria. One of his servants even points out that he's acting like a Nazi. This caused a bit of fan outcry, and Marvel execs were so horrified that they '''[[AuthorsSavingThrow immediately said that wasn't Magneto.]]''' This is [[OlderThanTheyThink hardly the first time]] Magneto has been compared to the Nazis, nor the first instance of someone pointing it out to him, or even Magneto acknowledging it himself.

!!!Main/AddictiveMagic
* ''Series/BuffyTheVampireSlayer:'' [[FormerTeenRebel Giles]]'s past as a demon summoner was treated a bit like a hooligan/stoner phase--he himself describes it as an extraordinary high. Willow's subplot in season six was less subtle. It started with her abusing MundaneUtility and getting carried away with her rapidly increasing power. It ended in "[[Recap/BuffyTheVampireSlayerS6E10Wrecked Wrecked]]", with her visiting an actual "pusher" who provided his customers with spells and weird hallucinations. It was later subject to an AuthorsSavingThrow that denied that magic itself is addictive.
!!Fixing a plot hole that people weren't really complaining about.

!!!Main/AWizardDidIt

* In ''WesternAnimation/BeautyAndTheBeast'', the movie apparently takes place over several months, judging by the change of seasons while Belle is at the castle. This creates the problem of just how far the castle is from the village - ranging from several days' travel (the length of time Maurice spends in the forest on his first journey there) to several hours (this is the time during which Maurice is returned to the village) and then a matter of minutes hard ride (the mob's assault on the castle followed by Belle's race to get there). It's also never explained why no one in the village knows the castle exists when it's apparently so nearby. Even taking into account the castle being hidden, magic is the only explanation for these oddities. The 2017 live-action remake '''[[AuthorsSavingThrow goes out of its way]]''' fill these plot holes: it explicitly reduces Belle's stay at the castle to just five days, removes the changing seasons, and instead places the castle in EndlessWinter as part of the curse, and explains that the villagers (including Mrs Potts's husband) had their memories of the castle erased.

!!!Main/AudienceAlienatingEnding
* ''WesternAnimation/VoltronLegendaryDefender'''s final episode is disliked by a majority of the fanbase with some complaints being about the fates of certain characters such as the deaths of [[spoiler: Allura and Lotor]], the former being a major [[TheWoobie woobie]] and the latter being a very deep and compelling villain who many thought would have more to do, [[spoiler: Honerva]] being a KarmaHoudini who gets away [[spoiler: with almost destroying the multiverse]] and for Lance's and Shiro's epilogue with the former [[spoiler: becoming an Altean for some reason]] and Shiro [[spoiler: marrying his helmsman who he barely interacted with]] as a hamfisted attempt at an AuthorsSavingThrow regarding the way they handled the character of [[BuryYourGays Adam]]. Not even a later WordOfGod confirmation that [[spoiler:Allura was not truly dead]] could stem the controversy, as the same source of that confirmation also involved the executive producers [[DearNegativeReader acting openly dismissive towards the outraged fanbase]]. Although one of the creators, Joaquin Dos Santos, apologized on Twitter due to the nature of her death, it was overshadowed because it took over 2 years after the finale's release for any acknowledgement of the backlash, much less an official apology.

* At the end of ''VideoGame/FinalFantasyXIV'''s patch 3.3 story quests, Alphinaud and the [[PlayerCharacter Warrior of Light]] toss [[spoiler:Nidhogg's eyes]] into the nearby abyss -- which predictably end up in the hands of the Ascians by their next appearance. [[AuthorsSavingThrow It wasn't explained until 3.5]] that they were ''expecting'' them to be destroyed in a torrent of eternally clashing wind and water aether that resides at the bottom of the abyss in question. [[spoiler:{{Defied|Trope}} much later, the next time Team Good gets their hands on the things -- Estinien notes that they're completely depleted of aether anyway, but takes no chances and destroys them for good on the spot.]]

!!!/YMMV/AbraxasHrodvitnon
* AuthorsSavingThrow:
** The [=MonsterVerse's=] canon has been criticized for [[TheyWastedAPerfectlyGoodCharacter doing barely anything with Vivienne's character before she was killed off in an unceremonious manner]], plus her characterization was largely confined to the supplementary and spin-off materials. Here, as one of the story's two main {{protagonist}}s she is given much more development and brought BackFromTheDead.
** In the old Toho movies, Ghidorah being DemotedToDragon over the course of the films and becoming the mere tool of {{Human Alien}}s was part of the character's VillainDecay. In [=AbraxasVerse=], [[spoiler:Ghidorah was originally created by human-like aliens as a BioweaponBeast, but it turned on them and exterminated them all with implicit ease]].
** A criticism levied at ''Film/GodzillaVsKong'' was Mark's HotBlooded and less-than-reasonable reaction to Godzilla's rampage, which seemed to some viewers like AesopAmnesia after the events of ''King of the Monsters'' and did nothing to endear him to most of his pre-existing detractors. After the movie's release, Hrodvitnon subsequently showed Mark in ''Abraxas'' and the [=AbraxasVerse=] Timeline developing a more respectful relationship with his daughter due to his CharacterDevelopment during the story (even inserting an opening for him to become just like ''Godzilla vs. Kong'' Mark which Mark and [[spoiler:Dr. Brooks]] then derail), and she portrayed him acting as a much more PlayedStraight example of the ReasonableAuthorityFigure.
** In ''Godzilla vs. Kong'', [[spoiler:Maia Simmons]] is also somewhat considered a case of TheyWastedAPerfectlyGoodCharacter. In the [=AbraxasVerse=], [[spoiler:Maia]] is a more rounded character, and her redeeming qualities and relationship with her father get expansion in the [=AbraxasVerse=] Timeline.

!!!AlternativeCharacterInterpretation/MyLittlePonyFriendshipIsMagic
** Celestia's tendency to do absolutely nothing other than sent Twilight and the gang after a perceived threat against Equestria, along with her utter [[CurbStompBattle curb-stomping]] by Chrysalis the one time she ''did'' try something (granted Chrysalis had a power boost, but you would expect Celestia to have at least been able to put up more of a fight than ''that'') and how Nightmare Moon had her on the ropes in their flashback battle until Celestia brandished the Elements of harmony, have made many fans question her strength. Is she actually powerful and holding back to do behind the scenes work, or just a BadassOnPaper who knows that she does not have the power to do much of anything against a powerful enemy and has to hide behind others? ''The Cutie Remark'' showing that every single future of Equestria without Twilight and her friends is a [[BadFuture war-torn post-apocalyptic nightmare]] only serves to imply the latter. While this means that only one villain succeeded and the rest were defeated, there is no word on whether Celestia or [[EnemyCivilWar the current dominant villain]] was responsible for it. Later episodes have attempted to '''[[AuthorsSavingThrow address this]]''' by claiming she [[WillfullyWeak holds her power back]] out of fear of harming others, but this raises other questions. Does she honestly believe standing by and doing nothing, holding back to the point villains defeat her, and/or only relying on others ''actually'' endangers her subjects less than just fighting back herself?

!!!Reconstruction/Film
** ''Film/IronMan3'' reconstructs how grandiose villains with a thing for theatrics and terror can be adapted to operate in the real world. [[spoiler: The Mandarin, the flashy BigBad adapted from the source material, is actually a fictional character played by an actor, Trevor Slattery, made to distract the public from the real villain, Aldrich Killian, who instead takes advantage of anonymity to perform his manipulative deeds. However, [[BrokenBase after this went over very badly with the fans]], the short film ''Film/AllHailTheKing'' '''[[AuthorsSavingThrow reconstructed the Mandarin further]]''' ([[TheGhost without showing him just yet]]) by revealing that he actually ''does'' exist and leads the Ten Rings, and Killian merely stole his name without realizing the consequences. And then ''Film/ShangChiAndTheLegendOfTheTenRings'' reveals said Mandarin, although a very reimagined version.]]

!!!YMMV/OdinSphere
* AuthorsSavingThrow:
** It has been long held by fans that [[spoiler: Mercedes and especially Ingway received too cruel an ending in the True End of the game when compared to Gwendolyn/Oswald and Cornelius/Velvet. The UpdatedRerelease provides a new screen after the shot of the WorldTree (Mercedes' reborn form), showing Ingway in the Netherworld and a root with Mercedes' signatue flower blooming from it reaching him, which will allow him to be taken to her so they can be TogetherInDeath. [[http://vignette2.wikia.nocookie.net/landoferion/images/1/18/Possible_Reincarnation.jpg/revision/latest?cb=20161016220311 A new piece of official artwork]] takes it even further by suggesting that they were later reincarnated ''as Alice's parents''.]]
** One of the biggest complaints of the game even back when it released was that the battle system was clunky, slow-paced, and an absolute slog to work through and level, especially with the food system. ''Leifthrasir'' completely reworks the system from the ground-up, not only improving the pacing significantly but also allowing for command shortcuts for your various skills, turning the game into a fast-paced action title worth its salt, on top of the streamlining of the extraneous mechanics like food.

!!!YMMV/PokemonRadicalRed
* AuthorsSavingThrow:
** Version 2.3 introduced an Easy Mode, which includes a Switch Mode like the vanilla games (while still requiring more strategic teams, of course). It also introduced Minimal Grinding mode, which removes [=EVs=] from the game completely, which normally takes a while to grind for, and [=IVs=] are all maxed, which would have normally taken a giant $350k MoneySink for.
** As mentioned under ScrappyMechanic, Raid Battles being locked behind daily events was a widely disliked feature. 3.0 removed daily spawns entirely, instead giving the player the ability to respawn Raid Dens via Wishing Pieces, which are fairly easy to get. Additionally, the player can now change the in-game time by talking to an NPC in Oak's Lab, letting the player get time-exclusive Pokémon at any time they please.
** For those who weren't huge fans of the Kanto starters, 3.0's addition of letting the player pick any starter from any generation is a fantastic addition.

* AuthorsSavingThrow:
** Didn't like Aquaman being left out of "''War''"? This movie adapts his most memorable scene from that arc, when he summons the sharks to attack.
** This movie also depicts Superman, Wonder Woman, Green Lantern and Shazam as more mature and responsible. They also give more priority to keeping civillians safe, as seen in the climax: Superman saves John Henry Irons and Wonder Woman saves Lois and Jimmy.
** They also show WHY Aquaman wasn't at the fight against Darkseid; they establish that he is still living in his father's lighthouse and is unsure of himself. He hasn't become a super hero yet, thus why he couldn't help.

* AuthorsSavingThrow: This book is rare in that it gives notice to how the X-Men have recently been failing their students. A common complaint in throughout the years since M-Day was how Academy X kids have been treated like FlatCharacter for writers to either kill or have the X-Men put in their place when they act out in uncharacteristic ways.

!!!UncannyValley/FiveNightsAtFreddys
* A criticism of the gameplay trailer was that Vanessa's initial model looked off and unintentionally creepy. [[AuthorsSavingThrow This appears to be addressed]], as the FreezeFrameBonus in "Freddy & Friends" Episode 4 and a quick shot in the "State of Play" trailer shows that her model has received extra work.

!!!YMMV/MitamaSecuritySpiritBusters
* AuthorsSavingThrow: Early on, Mitama was considered very annoying while Rena was boring and emotionless. By switching their BokeAndTsukkomiRoutine (Rena becoming the unpredictable ''boke'' shaking now ''tsukkomi'' Mitama's view of the world), it balanced their personality traits and made them both more likable. It also helps that they are not stuck in these respective roles and will occasionally switch back and forth to surprise the readers and keep things fresh.

!!!YMMV/StarTrekEnterprise
* AuthorsSavingThrow:
** The Vulcans in ''Enterprise'' (particularly T'Pol) were criticized by viewers for acting very [[NotSoStoic un-Vulcan-like]], nearly indistinguishable from Romulans. This was used as the basis of a three-episode story in the fourth season involving the Syrannites, an orthodox sect of Vulcans (in contrast to Vulcan society which has "strayed from Surak's teachings"), and the discovery of the Kir'Shara (the original copy of Surak's writings). It is said that Season 5 would have tried to explain why T'Pol is more emotional than most Vulcans by revealing she was actually half-Romulan.[[note]]Despite that Vulcans are by nature a ''deeply'' emotional people; their control is entirely learned.[[/note]]
** Another complaint was how the show did nothing to show the formation of the Federation. Again, this was addressed in the fourth season with a three-episode story that showed the beginnings of alliance between Humans, Vulcans, Andorians and Tellarites (the Federation's four founding species) [[spoiler:as well as the formation of the "Coalition of Planets" in the penultimate two-part story]].
** Also, the greatest one of all, "Judgment", which turns the entire Klingon race from a [[{{Flanderization}} gigantic flanderization]] to a retroactive TearJerker that shows that the warrior caste took over the Klingons' entire culture slowly over several hundred years. By the time of ''Series/StarTrekVoyager'', the warriors are all that's left.
** Season 1 had both Archer and the NX-01 constantly [[CurbStompBattle getting wrecked]] by every other threat of the week. Archer from season 2 onward is far more adept in combat and wins many fistfights and firefights, while the NX-01 (after getting its phase cannons) starts winning a lot more ship actions (including against the Klingons), even before it upgrades with enhanced hull plating and photonic torpedoes at the end of season 2.
** Season 4 can be seen as one really long AuthorsSavingThrow; bringing in a new head writer who promptly set the writers' team to cleaning up the mess of his predecessors. It wasn't perfect, but there was reasonably only so much they could do in one season, as well as devoting so much time to retconning the three previous clunky seasons.

!!!Series/PokemonSunday
''Pokémon Sunday'' aired its last episode on September 26th 2010, after which it was essentially renamed ''Pokémon Smash'' with some slight additions to the cast (such as three foreign-language-speaking girls known as the "International Division", and replacing Chimchar and Lucario with Oshawott and Zoroark). '''[[AuthorsSavingThrow Due to popular demand]]''', Zoroark was later [[PutOnABus sent to Russia]] and (re-)replaced by the returning Director Lucario.

* AuthorsSavingThrow:
** After initial trailers received controversy for showing the African-American Disney Princess [[WesternAnimation/ThePrincessAndTheFrog Tiana]] with a lighter skin color, among other questionable design choices that made her appear to be borderline AmbiguouslyBrown, the Disney Princess scenes were reanimated to depict Tiana with a design more accurate to that of her original movie (and her merchandise), where she was unambiguously African-American.
** For Latin American viewers, this is the case with Vanellope, due to the complaints in the previous film regarding her voice, as she was voiced by Maria Antonieta de las Nieves, who was considered too old to voice a little girl anymore, compared with her most famous role as [[Series/ElChavoDelOcho La Chilindrina]]. In this case, she's replaced with Creator/LilianaBarba, a much younger voice actress, and as such, much more fitting for the role.
** With fans growing tired of Disney’s recurring usage of the hidden/twist villain in many of its previous movies, [[spoiler:many are relieved that the movie has no true BigBad, much less a twist villain, unless one counts Ralph’s own insecurities that serve as the FinalBoss.]]
** A criticism of the original movie was its StatusQuoIsGod plot and the fact that Ralph is heavily chastised for even ''thinking'' of wanting to change his bad guy status. [[spoiler:While it may lead to a BrokenAesop, Vanellope wanting more or less the same thing and eventually achieving it certainly addresses this problem.]]

** After various comments pointed out that Linkara never saw the ''outside'' of Vyce's ship, yet instantly recognized it, the next episode has Pollo note this, then Linkara asks who else would have a ship with a giant V on it.
** The very end of the ''Real Ghostbusters in Ghostbusters II'' review features [[spoiler: Jaeris, visiting Linkara via portal, returning the mobile emitter he'd stolen during the Gunslinger arc, thus tying up the loose end left from the AbortedArc of him planning to use it against his then-enemy]].
** During the Sleepwalker arc, Linkara's friends come across as a little ''too'' unsympathetic to Linkara starting to cross lines they're uncomfortable with, treating it as baseless paranoia when there ''is'' an actual and obvious threat that's driving him to such extreme measures. This gets addressed [[spoiler: when they meet 90's Kid again and call him out on working with Vyce, pointing out that they left Linkara because of how far he was going, but 90's Kid is hardly any better for what he's done. !!!YMMV/TwitchPlaysPokemonRandomizedChattyCrystal
* AuthorsSavingThrow: The decision to have Ditto as a starter instead of Unown was criticized by some due to the only thing differentiating it from the latter being that it has even ''worse'' stats. A first BalanceBuff that boosted its stats to put it on even foot with its predecessor received lukewarm reception by players, so a second one restored its stats to normal but gave it access to Transform, allowing it to copy its opponent's stats and typing (although Hidden Power remained its only move once transformed). This was received much more positively, as it both helped to make it more useful in battle and to make it stand out more from Unown.

!!!YMMV/DanganRonpaGalacticMelancholy
* AuthorsSavingThrow: Many of the characters that were hated (if not a BaseBreakingCharacter) are this. They include Korekiyo (who went from a psychotic serial killer to a NobleDemon yakuza) and Celes (who has her personality and life more explored in this fanfiction than the original story). But the biggest example of this is Hiyoko, who underwent some massive CharacterDevelopment starting from the middle of Chapter 3.

!!!YMMV/SuperBomberman
* AuthorsSavingThrow: Patch 1.3 of ''Super Bomberman R'' vastly improves the framerate (at the cost of resolution and graphics), controls, lag, Story Mode camera, adds adjustable difficulty for AI, and adds free stage DLC on top of that. This continued with their second update which not only added even more characters and stages, but a brand new story level and Tournament Mode. In said Tournament Mode, they gave each character their own unique stats and the Bomberman Bros. the option to use the abilities of any unlocked characters.

!!!CowboyBeBopAtHisComputer/Pokemon
** Learning nothing, the Versus Books guide for ''Pokémon Yellow'' was even worse. Item names were combined together, points on the map didn't correspond to the text, there were at least two instances of the illustration of the wrong Pokémon used, and any areas not required to reach the end were completely skipped and never mentioned. Also, [[ComMon Pidgey's]] rarity is listed as "Only One," even though anyone playing the game would encounter far too many right from the start. Overall, it gave the impression that the guide's author considered playing the game a chore and just wanted to get to the end to get it over with, then wrote up the guide to get his check as quickly as possible. '''[[AuthorsSavingThrow They would later disavow this version and just reprint the first guide with information from Yellow added]]''', but still kept all of the original errors.

* AuthorsSavingThrow: Nardole was a widely hated character when he appeared in "The Husbands of River Song", but has undergone some extensive rehabilitation, rendering him more likeable and less annoying in his encore appearance. (This would continue into Series 10.) Even more so, 24 years around the Doctor have reverted him from bumbling fool to ServileSnarker out of impatience and annoyance in putting up with his increasingly tiresome antics and waiting on new body parts.

** ''3rd MIX'' received criticism for requiring a secret code to unlock Maniac/SSR difficulty for ''3rd MIX'' songs, and on top of that once the player enters SSR mode they cannot play songs of any lower difficulty. ''3rd MIX PLUS'' instead allows Maniac to be selected from any mode from the song select.
** ''4th MIX'' was praised for its large songlist but criticized for only allowing the player access to a subset of those songs during a given credit, based on the genre they pick. ''4th MIX PLUS'' fixed this by adding an "All Music" folder.
** Two of the greatest criticisms with ''DDRMAX'' were the total reboot of the songlist (with the only "old" songs being a handful of previously console-exclusive songs) and the removal of the difficulty "foot" ratings in favor of the Groove Radar system. ''[=DDRMAX2=]'' and the American [=PS2=] version address this by bringing back songs from previous games as well as putting the foot ratings back alongside the Groove Radar.
** ''Supernova 2'' received critical backlash for downrating some their newest songs 1-2 difficulties lower (i.e. Paranoia Hades Difficult 8 being harder than Max 300 Expert 10). Knowing that the 10 rating can no longer be contained, this finally forced them to scrap the outdated 10 rating with the newer X rating (generally old rating multiplied by 1.45), re-rating them properly and actually paying attention to patterns in doubles.

** Captain Marvel's speech in issue #7 finally has her admit how badly she screwed up during ''Comicbook/CivilWarII'' and how her recent behavior made her less popular and allowed Steve to more easily manipulate her. This seemingly is a nod to the readers who had grown to find her unlikable after her actions in ''Civil War II''.
** Initially, the explanation was that the Supreme Leader was ''the'' Captain America that fans had always known, but corrupted into a fascist monstrosity, while the Cap that appears to stop him at the conclusion was a "remnant" constructed from Kobik's memories of the original. This was later retconned and it was revealed that Supreme Leader Cap came from an alternate timeline similar to a "What If?" while Kobik had subconsciously preserved the Cap we all know and love.

** A big one for the character of Boba Fett. For years after the original movies, his status as a badass was almost entirely a meme, and his actual actions in the films regarded as little more than a joke. But here? Boba Fett is actually a badass, a really scary OneManArmy even without his armor.
** Last season, a lot of fans were outraged at Ming-Na Wen seemingly being wasted on a rather dull one-off villain. But not only is Fennec still alive, her character is greatly expanded alongside Boba, and gets an extended action sequence establishing her as a OneWomanArmy.
** One of the more controversial retcons that ''WesternAnimation/StarWarsTheCloneWars'' made was the revelation that Jango Fett, and by extension his son Boba, were not real Mandalorians. Granted, this claim came from [[CorruptPolitician Prime Minister Almec]], who's not the most trustworthy source, and the New Mandalorians were clearly trying to save face, so EpilepticTrees suggested that Almec was lying about the situation, but this episode restores the Mandalorian status of the Fetts and suggests that Almec was wrong[[note]]This was largely an accident. When the Clone Wars episode came out there was a comic series covering Jango's life and involvement in the Mandalorian civil war, where he fought against the faction Almec is secretly in league with explaining why he would lie. Then when Disney reset the EU but left the series intact all that was left was Almec's lie. This episode brought back Jango's backstory in BroadStrokes.[[/note]].

Finn himself admits that he's not too bummed about this, because he feels like this was always meant to happen.

** After many complaints that Disney was ignoring the prequel era, the novel (alongside the [[UnCancelled renewal]] of ''[[WesternAnimation/StarWarsTheCloneWars The Clone Wars]]'' and the release of ''[[Literature/StarWarsMasterAndApprentice Master and Apprentice]]'') has been welcomed as fresh change of pace in the ''Franchise/StarWars'' franchise.
** The prequel trilogy was criticized for its pacing issues (particularly the decade-long TimeSkip between ''Film/ThePhantomMenace'' and ''Film/AttackOfTheClones''), with many important events happening off-screen. The novel being [[{{Interquel}} set between the two films]] expands much upon Padmé's transition from the Queen of Naboo to the Senator of Naboo.
** Some people criticized the fact that none of the characters in the Prequel Trilogy did more about the slavery on Tatooine, especially Padmé as she was actually in some position to make a difference. ''Queen's Shadow'' reveals that before she was asked to become senator, Padmé had seriously considered dedicating her life to eradicating slavery on Tatooine. After becoming a senator, she attempts to bring up the subject in the Senate and even [[spoiler: sends Sabé to Tatooine to try and locate Shmi Skywalker]].
** There was some confusion over the exact dates the Queens of Naboo took and stayed in office over the course of the Prequel Trilogy and ''The Clone Wars'', due to the belief that a full term constituted four years. ''Queen's Shadow'' reveals that canonically a full term is actually ''two'' years, which subsequently clears up a lot of continuity issues with the queens. [[note]] Padmé reigned for four years (two consecutive terms), a [[RememberTheNewGuy previously never-mentioned queen]] named Réillata was elected after her and reigned for two years, Jamillia (the queen in ''Film/AttackOfTheClones'') reigned for two years, Neeyutnee (the queen in ''The Clone Wars'') reigned for another two years, then Apailana (the queen in ''Film/RevengeOfTheSith'') was elected. [[/note]]
** One criticism of ''Film/ThePhantomMenace'' was that we didn't see much of the negative effects of the Trade Federation's occupation of Naboo, which lowered dramatic tension. Here, we're given details of the occupation that makes it clear it was terrible; many people died resisting the Trade Federation and they also tortured a ''[[WouldHurtAChild twelve year old]]'' handmaiden for information, resulting in her being permanently scarred.

!!!NinetiesAntiHero/VideoGames
** Dante and the ''DMC'' series are either an AffectionateParody of the gothic anti-hero supernatural genre or another edgy trope from Creator/{{Capcom}} that needed a radical 90's type of anti-hero who lived in a satanic nightmarish world filled with leather-clad gothic babes, a DarkerAndEdgier twin brother who was the evil foil, and a one-liner-spewing half-human half-demon rebel without a cause with a tragic backstory and the most edgy weapons this side of a ''ComicBook/{{Spawn}}'' comic. The series leaning heavily into RuleOfCool and all the {{camp}}y elements as time went on, along with a stronger focus on character and narrative, makes it harder to argue in favor of the latter viewpoint, particularly since it was '''[[AuthorsSavingThrow a response to]]''' Dante's [[TheStoic stoic]], no-nonsense depiction in ''VideoGame/DevilMayCry2'' ([[ExecutiveMeddling brought about because]] several members of the development team didn't understand and/or care for [[ClassicalAntiHero Dante's portrayal]] in [[VideoGame/DevilMayCry1 the first game]]).

In this show, while he remains the ButtMonkey, he's always the one that brings his misery onto himself, making the slapstick he endures more hilarious and cathartic than cruel.
** Trudy doesn't physically abuse Oscar the way she used to in the original show (many fans did complain about the blatant DoubleStandardAbuseFemaleOnMale that Oscar used to suffer in the original show). In fact, their marriage is a lot better in this show than it was in the original show (one scene even hinted that they were ''having sex'').
** Fans that hated Penny's friends for being fake and backstabbing were pleasantly surprised to find Dijonay at the very least behaving like a much better friend, having more moments when she would stand up for Penny instead of leaving her in the dust. On top of that, some of Dijonay's selfish decisions are made for more complicated reasons, such as her trying to take care of her siblings.
** Fans who considered the Chang Triplets stereotypical AsianAndNerdy characters were relieved to find them absent (so far). That said, other fans who miss the triplets wish they could've been included and had their stereotypical traits removed.
** Ever since the episode "Love Thy Neighbor", [=LaCienega=]'s foot size wasn't properly conveyed in subsequent episodes in the original series where she's shown barefoot and her feet are shown to be either small or normal-sized. ** The franchise took some heat for the Clone Wars displaying such BlackAndWhiteMorality despite the claim in the opening crawl of ''Film/RevengeOfTheSith'' that there were "heroes on both sides". ''[[WesternAnimation/StarWarsTheCloneWars The Clone Wars]]'' only takes a couple minor steps to showing more sympathetic Separatists. ** While many accepted the inhibitor chips as an explanation for how so many of the Clones suddenly turned on the Jedi despite their much more fleshed out relationship in ''The Clone Wars'' (and adding a layer of tragedy in their character arcs), there was also some concern about the chips eliminating all moral agency on the Clones' part in carrying out Order 66, potentially shooting down some interesting storylines. Throughout the first season, [[spoiler: we not only see other "regular" Clones (who didn't have their chips removed or otherwise disrupted) visibly questioning their orders and/or defying the Empire, one of the big reveals at the end of the season is that Crosshair, who was presumed to be under the influence of his chip, had his chip removed sometime between the beginning and end of the season (presumably after he got burned on Bracca), giving moral agency to his FaceHeelTurn.]]

* AuthorsSavingThrow:
** Any fans disappointed with how the Man in Black was killed off in the books may find some enjoyment in the film's climax, where Roland has a final showdown with his lifelong nemesis.
** Those who were pissed that Jake died yet again in the novels (along with ''all'' of Roland's companions either dying or departing to an alternate Earth by the end) can relish him finally surviving til the end of the story.

!!!YMMV/OlafsFrozenAdventure
* AuthorsSavingThrow: Perhaps in response to criticism of the ''Frozen'' attraction shoved into [[Ride/DisneyThemeParks Epcot's]] Norway Pavilion, it's implied that Arendelle is located in Norway rather than being a straight-up FantasyCounterpartCulture.

* AuthorsSavingThrow: At long last, the show lets go of trying to convince us a completely normal guy is a worthy BigBad for Team Arrow who's constantly able to escape entire well-armed teams, as Diaz gains SuperStrength.

** There are two versions of Chapter [[spoiler:71]]. Only one is canon.
** Chapter [[spoiler:102]] is either this or an AssPull, but either way it was definitely [[WhamEpisode something]].

!!!YMMV/FatalFrameMaidenOfBlackWater
* AuthorsSavingThrow: This game went out of its way to portray any human sacrifice occuring in the rituals to be willingly done by the sacrifice and considered to be an honorary service to be chosen for, contrary to previous games having characters like [[VideoGame/FatalFrameI Kirie]] or [[VideoGame/FatalFrameII the twins]] being forced into participating in rituals that ended in their deaths. ''This one is commented out''

* RememberTheNewGuy: In Season 3. Season 2 implied that his brother Michael '''([[AuthorsSavingThrow or Patrick]])''' was the eldest of Eli's eight children.

* AuthorsSavingThrow: Though the look wasn't disliked, Sam's 'perky' look remains far more popular than her eventual 'nerdy' appearance. The sequel has her let some hair down while still pulling it back, combing elements of both.

!!!YMMV/AvengerGoddess
* AuthorsSavingThrow: WordOfGod explains that a key reason for the AgeLift of Thor and his immediate family was so that it would make more sense for Earth to have worshipped him as a god a thousand years ago.

!!!Main/AbortedArc
Or maybe the writers just realized it was a lousy idea that was cluttering up the plot, or just lost interest in it. This weighs rather heavily on the WillingSuspensionOfDisbelief, but [[Administrivia/TropesAreTools sometimes]] the best way to execute an '''AuthorsSavingThrow''' and get rid of an element that isn't doing the story any favors is to just [[CanonDiscontinuity pretend it never happened]]. ''Trope description''.

!!!Main/AntiFrustrationFeatures
Can overlap with {{Authors Saving Throw}} if the feature is added to address a common complaint. See also {{Acceptable Breaks from Reality}} for when it is the rules of reality that are changed.

!!!Main/NoSavingThrow
Do not confuse with {{Authors Saving Throw}}.

!!!Main/HeroesFrontierStep
In some cases, this may purposely act as an AuthorsSavingThrow, if a work's character is supposed to be the hero from the start, but has [[DesignatedHero not been doing a particularly good job at their role]], the writer may try to inflict this to make unambiguously clear they are the good guy.
