Updated and paraphrased several Square-Enix entries. Also, the FFX entry was removed, because it isn't as notable as the other entries.

** Released in 2001, ''VideoGame/FinalFantasyX'' is the first ''Franchise/FinalFantasy'' game to have voice acting. Since then, several characters from that game made appearances in other games and their respective voice actors reprise their roles. The latest example would be the appearance of Tidus, Jecht, and Yuna in ''Dissidia 012: Final Fantasy'', where they're voiced by Creator/JamesArnoldTaylor, Creator/GreggBerger, and Hedy Burress, respectively.
** Creator/YumiKakazu is the only seiyuu for a ''VideoGame/FinalFantasyVII'' character to appear in the 1998 game ''VideoGame/{{Ehrgeiz}}'' that reprised her role (as Yuffie, by the way) in all future titles to date. Everyone else (such as Creator/NozomuSasaki as Cloud and Creator/ShinichiroMiki as Sephiroth) was [[TheOtherDarrin darrin'd]].
** ''VideoGame/FinalFantasyTactics: War of the Lions'' for the [[Platform/PlayStationPortable PSP]] features Balthier from ''VideoGame/FinalFantasyXII'' as a OptionalPartyMember. He appears in a single cutscene that doesn't last for more than 2 minutes. That didn't stop the casting direction from hiring Creator/GideonEmery to once again voice Balthier.
** The biggest case of role reprise comes in the form of ''VideoGame/WorldOfFinalFantasy''. Every voice actor who has voiced a character in a past voiced ''Final Fantasy'' or any other Square Enix title reprises their respective roles... [[TheOtherDarrin except for]] [[VideoGame/FinalFantasyIX Vivi]], who was voiced by Melissa Disney in ''VideoGame/KingdomHeartsII''. Melissa was replaced by Creator/KathSoucie in ''World of Final Fantasy''.
** ''[[VideoGame/DissidiaFinalFantasy2015 Dissidia Final Fantasy NT]]'' boasts a 100% role reprise rate, with voice actors from the previous ''Dissidia'' games reprising their roles, plus returning voice actors from their respective games for the newcomers (e.g. Creator/PhilLaMarr reprising [[VideoGame/FinalFantasyTactics Ramza]] after ten years). This is especially significant, since [[VideoGame/FinalFantasyXIV Y'shtola]]'s voice actress is British.

to:

** There's also Ingrid Hunnigan, a character that Hunnigan debuted in ''VideoGame/ResidentEvil4''. She has been 2005's ''VideoGame/ResidentEvil4'' and was voiced by Salli Saffioti, who went on to reprise the role in ''[[Anime/ResidentEvilDegeneration Degeneration]]'' (released in 2008), ''VideoGame/ResidentEvil6'' (2012), and ''[[Anime/ResidentEvilDamnation Damnation]]'' (also in 2012). For a time, Ingrid was one of the very few ''[=RE=]'' characters to make multiple appearances and not go through a recast. That changed with [[VideoGame/ResidentEvil4Remake the 2023 remake]] of ''Resident Evil 4'', where Raylene Harewood takes up the role instead. However, only a few months later with the release of ''[[Anime/ResidentEvilDeathIsland Death Island]]'', [[TheOriginalDarrin Saffioti since said game.once again returned as Ingrid]].

Added DiffLines:

** Once Capcom began to steadily allow more Japanese dubbing for the ''[=RE=]'' franchise's media, there are rarely any instances of role recasting. As two examples, Creator/HirokiTochi and Creator/AtsukoYuya have both consistently voiced Chris and Jill respectively since they gained the roles in 2005's ''VideoGame/ProjectXZone''. The 2021 film ''[[Film/ResidentEvilWelcomeToRaccoonCity Welcome to Raccoon City]]'' is the only exception so far, as it recasts everyone on the Japanese voice cast, with Creator/SubaruKimura taking the role as Chris, while Creator/MiyukiSawashiro voices Jill. In Jill's case, the only other Japanese actress she had prior to Yuya was Creator/KikukoInoue in the 2004 game ''Under the Skin''. Other than the latter examples, you'd be hard-pressed to find official media where Tochi and Yuya ''aren't'' reprising their roles.

Examples of RoleReprise where the actor returned to voice the role in a video game - these include any cases where the role was originated in a different medium (e.g. animation or live action).

'''There is a [[Administrivia/NoRecentExamplesPlease minimum time gap]] for most examples'''. To qualify for the trope, the gap between appearances (based on release date) should be '''5 years''' or more. There's no such waiting period for actors who return to a HistoricalDomainCharacter or PublicDomainCharacter in a new, unrelated production - even if it's based on the same work.

For the purpose of this trope, variants such as AlternateUniverse and AlternateContinuity versions are treated as the same character.
