She explicitly tells the female agent that she wouldn't sleep with Tony for a hidden agenda, and she tells Tony that it's nice to have him, considering what her father was like. Tony also mentions to Dr. Melfi that he is a father figure to her, especially after her father ran away. The episode couldn't be clearer on why she is drawn to him.

* WhatDoesSheSeeInHim: The various FBI agents express extreme disbelief that Adriana (whom at least the male agents classify as a "10") could possibly be attracted to the portly, balding Tony, whom one likens to Barney Rubble from ''WesternAnimation/TheFlintstones''. Given the difficult circumstances she's in, she could simply be seizing the opportunity to seduce the Boss of the family in the hope that this might [[ScrewTheRulesIHaveConnections protect her from mob retaliation]].

There's not the slightest hint at that. He is a decent guy and realizes the conflict is bad for all parties, so he wants to smooth things over.

Not at all clear, other than that they were going to get cocaine. The whole episode is a discussion about the situation and never is it hinted that they were going to have sex, not even by Tony in private or when talking to Dr. Melfi.

* JerkassHasAPoint: Chris goes straight into DomesticAbuse and attempted murder to deal with the Adriana/Tony situation, but he isn't wrong to be suspicious. They were clearly going to Adriana's dealer in the middle of the night to score some coke and have sex and were only prevented from doing so by the accident. The fact that they didn't get to consummate their affair due to outside circumstances is treated by both Adriana and Tony as if it instantly absolves them of any wrongdoing, the hypocrisy and BlatantLies that follow from this only infuriates Christopher more.

Disturbed by how close he came to cuckolding his own nephew, Tony resumes therapy with Melfi. He discusses his sexual attraction to Adriana and briefly fantasizes about "starting over" with her, but admits that this would be disastrous for his family. Melfi believes Tony is making progress by resisting the urge to sleep with Adriana. Meanwhile, Adriana brings up the topic with Agent Sanseverino, who encourages her to get closer to Tony for more information, but [[WhatDoesSheSeeInHim makes fun of Adriana's attraction to Tony]] with her fellow FBI agents. That night, Tony returns to the Crazy Horse, and after it closes he and Adriana decide to visit her drug dealer in Dover to score some coke. Adriana is caught off-guard when Tony asks about her friend "Danielle", who was actually an undercover FBI agent, and she makes up an unrealistic story about how Danielle drowned at a picnic. Moments later, a raccoon runs into the road, and Tony swerves to avoid it, totaling his car. He and Adriana are both hospitalized with minor injuries. Tony visits Adriana and tells her they will have to prepare for the story of the car crash spreading, and how bad it will look.

* CallBack: Both Adriana and Tony spend the first half of the episode trying to obscure each of their recent medical histories from everyone else. It mirrors how Uncle Junior had similar fears over developing [[Recap/TheSopranosS3E5AnotherToothpick stomach cancer]].

* InnocentlyInsensitive: Genuinely curious about his health concerns, Tony asks the hospital doctor if he was thorough enough in his post-accident examinations and says he's willing to pay for extra tests just in case. The doctor gets defensive and sensitive about his qualifications as an African-American doctor and goes on a tangent about the contributions his family has made to medicine. Tony realizes he's touched a nerve and drops the subject.

** Both Adriana and Tony are afraid to let their conditions (Irritable Bowel Syndrome and Squamous Skin Cell Cancer respectively) become public knowledge, fearful that the knowledge would diminish their status in front of the rest of the family.

* ToughLeaderFacade:
** Tony doesn't tell anybody the real reason he got a bandage on his forehead is because he recently had to get treated for squamous skin cell cancer, instead lying about it being a random injury. Him letting this down around Adriana becomes the start of an almost-affair.
