* MsFanservice: Upon encountering a river, Octavia immediately strips down to her underwear and goes for a swim. Her companions commence to [[EatingTheEyeCandy oggle]].

* TwoFaced: The first animal encountered by the 100 on the ground is a two headed dear.

* AllCrimesAreEqual: On the Ark they are. Unless you are under 18, at which point you are merely imprisoned until you turn 18 and get a trial. Usually you are still executed. The 100 are a group of teenagers who have either just turned 18 or are underage, and thus deemed expendable. Abby is later nearly executed for breaking the law by using too much blood and anesthetic to save Jaha in surgery.
* AlmightyJanitor: Literally with Bellamy, who was a janitor on the Ark before attempting to assassinate Jaha and stowing away aboard the Ark.
* ApologeticAttacker: Kane gives a half-hearted apology for arresting Abby in public, although it's clear he takes absolutely no pleasure in having her executed. It's just the law, and he views her breaking a law as a threat to the survival of the human race.
* AssassinationAttempt: Bellamy shot Chancellor Jaha privately before sneaking aboard the Drop Ship with the 100. Nobody on the Ark noticed for a while due to the commotion of the launch. Abby is eventually able to save him in surgery though, at nearly the cost of her own life after she breaks the law and uses too much spare blood and anesthetic.

* ArtifactTitle: Probably the quickest to become an artifact in history. There are less than a hundred by the ten minute mark.
* TheAtoner: Wells seems like this, deliberately getting himself sent to the ground the help Clarke, after his apparent betrayal led to the death of her father.

* EarlyInstallmentWeirdness: The dialogue is very clunky in these early episodes, laden with exposition, and the characters aren't quite fully formed, being mostly cliche stereotypes. Needless to say, ItGetsBetter.
* EstablishingCharacterMoment: All of the main characters get these.
** Clarke is shown to be a talented artist, mourning her deceased father, and badass enough to fight off three guards and escape from her cell.
** Abby is a loving mother, but also paradoxically is ruthlessly pragmatic yet dogmatic in her morals. She also has a major case of ScrewTheRulesImDoingWhatsRight.
** Wells is a devoted friend of Clarke, despite their falling out, and despised by the other delinquents, due to the SinsOfOurFathers.
** Finn is a flirtatious daredevil.
** Bellamy has a major case of BigBrotherInstinct, but is also plays TheCorrupter and TheHedonist, although it's implied he doesn't actually believe the philosophy he is spouting with the other two.
** Octavia is an immature hothead with a devotion to Bellamy, and a bit of a ThrillSeeker.
** Murphy is a DeadpanSnarker with a propensity for violence.
** Jasper is a bit of TheDitz with hints of IJustWantToBeBadass.
** Monty is TheSmartGuy with a knowledge of at least some of the local fauna, courtesy of growing up on Farm Station.
** Kane is a ruthless ByTheBookCop, with a case of PragmaticVillainy and a bit of RulesLawyer. He is most certainly a WellIntentionedExtremist.
** Jaha is a ReasonableAuthorityFigure combined with TheDeterminator. He also has a bit of ScrewTheRulesIMakeThem.

* FakeKillScare: Bellamy convinces most of the hundred to pull this on a massive scale by removing their wristbands, making the Ark think that they have died. Later, he forcibly removes Wells' at gunpoint.

* TheHedonist: Bellamy successfully convinces most of the 100 to follow this. It isn't very difficult, as most of them are repressed horny teenagers. However, it's implied he doesn't actually believe what he is saying.

* LittleStowaway: An adult version with Bellamy, who disguised himself as a guardsman in order to sneak aboard the Drop Ship and accompany it to Earth, in order to protect Octavia.

* MyGodWhatHaveIDone: Two. Finn has a minor one when he realizes that inspiring two other delinquents to remove their seatbelts got them killed.
* MrExposition: Nearly all of the characters are this, with a dose of AsYouKnow, courtesy of the EarlyInstallmentWeirdness.
* MsFanservice: Upon encountering a river, Octavia immediately strips down to her underwear and goes for a swim.
* OnlySaneMan: Clarke and Wells trade this role throughout the episode. Clarke spends the entire episode trying to get the 100 food and supplies, and avoid the very very real dangers of Earth. Most of the others treat her as a nuisance. Meanwhile Wells tries to maintain peace in the camp.
* PopulationControl: Clarke initially suspects that all the prisoners are being floated to help control the population. Abby clarifies that no, they aren't being deliberately killed, only sent to the ground.

* ScrewTheRulesImDoingWhatsRight: Abby breaks the law by using more than the allotted blood and anesthetic to treat Jaha for his bullet wound. This nearly gets her executed until a recovered Jaha pulls a ScrewTheRulesIMakeThem and pardons her.
* SeaMonster: More like river monster, and combined with SnakesAreSinister. Octavia is attacked by a giant river snake while going swimming. Some quick thinking on Clarke and Jasper's part end up saving her.
* SecretlyDying: Clarke reveals that the entire Ark is this, as the Oxygen system is failing and might be beyond repair. Her father Jake was the engineer that discovered it and tried to go public with it, but was floated before he could and Clarke was put in solitary.
* ShoutOut: Clarke and Bellamy arguing whether or not to open the Drop Ship door is one to a similar scene in ''Film/GalaxyQuest''.
* ThisIsForEmphasisBitch: Octavia's pronouncement when she sets foot on Earth for the first time:

* ThoseTwoGuys: Jasper and Monty are introduced as such.
* ThrownOutTheAirlock: Standard of method of execution aboard the Ark. Abby is nearly subjected to it, before being saved at the last moment by Jaha pardoning her.

* TragicKeepsake: Clarke's father's watch is established as such. She gets quite upset when the guards remove it in the opening scene.

* YouKilledMyFather: Murphy blaims Wells for Jaha executing his father.
