Mike enters the gym and hears something moving through the door to the boy's locker room; aiming himself with a mop, he searches the room only to be surprised by Max. Mike demands to know what she is doing here, and she answers that she also searching for Dart. Mike begins to leave the room as tells her to just go home, prompting Max to ask why he hates her. Mike answers that he doesn't hate her, as you can't hate someone you barely know. Max points that it is pretty clear that he doesn't want her in the party. Mike says that she is correct, saying they doesn't need another partymember, as he is the team's Paladin, Will is the Cleric, Dustin is the Bard, and Lucas is the Ranger, and El is the Mage. Puzzled, Max asks who "El" is, Mike that she is just someone who was in the party but she moved away. Undeterred by Mike's overt hostility towards her, Max points out that their party could always a "Zoomer", which Mike says is not a real thing, but Max starts driving her skateboard in circles around him, saying that she is clearly Zooming right now. She continues to drive in circles around Mike, who tells her to stop doing that as it is making him dizzy. Max cheekily answers that she will stop if she can be in the party. Her persistence starts to impress Mike, and in spite of himself he cannot but give her a genuinely warm smile as he chuckles at her antics. Unfortunately, Eleven just then walks up to the doors to the gym, and sees Mike and Max through the door windows. Noticing Mike smiling at Max, she thinks the two of them are flirting, and is utterly crushed by the sight, but that quickly gives way to anger, and she uses her powers to pull Max's skateboard away from under, causing Max to land on the ground with a thud. Mike quickly helps her up, while Eleven watches on the verge of tears. Mike asks what happened, and Max says that it was like a magnetic force grabbed her board from her. Max realizes that it sounds rather familiar, and runs out the gym to see if there is anyone there, but the hallway appears empty.

She see Mike and Max together and thinks they are flirting.

Joyce watches a tape from Halloween night when Will had an episode about the Upside Down and see an image of Will's vision.

While searching for Dart, Will finds the creature in one of the school bathrooms. He has another episode where he is in the Upside Down facing the shadow creature. Taking Bob's advice to stand up to his fears, Will confronts the shadow monster, but it forces a tentacle down his throat.

She see Back at school class is finished, and most students are beginning to head home. Mike and Max together and thinks they are flirting.

Joyce watches a tape from Halloween night
asks Will if he wants to be there when the others show off Dart to Mr. Clarke. Will had an episode then tells Mike about his suspicions about Dart being a creature from the Upside Down. In the class room, Dustin boasts about his discover to a very interested Mr. Clarke, and is about to show it off, before a frantic Mike, followed by Will, bursts into the room and takes the trap containing Dart within, making a quick excuse to Mr. Clarke that the whole thing was just a prank. Dustin are rather upset about Mike shutting the whole thing down, but Mike just tells him and the others to meet him and Will in the AV room, they follow him, leaving behind a very confused Mr. Clarke.

Outside school, Billy is waiting with a new girlfriend for Max. but when the girl says to him that it seems like his sister is not going to show, Billy declares that she can skate home if she is going to make wait like this, before sharply telling the girl not to call Max his "sister", as ''not'' his sister.

Back at the AV room, the boys has left outside the door, something she none too happy about, as she pounds on the door and demands to be let in. The boys ignore her, as Dustin asks Will if he didn't tell about his suspicions earlier, but Will answers that he wasn't sure then, but now he is convinced that he heard creatures like Dart when he saw
the Upside Down yesterday. Lucas and Dustin are confused by this as Will hasn't physically been to the Upside Down since last year, but Mike suggests that due to his experiences back then, Will might have acquired something like True Sight, a skill that allows one to see into the ethereal plane, and that the things he has been seeing lately aren't flashbacks at all, but rather stuff that are happening for real. Lucas says that they need to take Dart to Hopper, which Mike agrees with, but Dustin protests, saying that Dart will be as good as dead if Hopper sees him. "Maybe he should be dead," Mike tells him, upsetting Dustin quite a bit, to which Mike points out that Dart is from the Upside Down, but Dustin protests that it doesn't necessarily means he is bad, insisting that he feels a bound with the creature. Both Mike and Lucas are rather sceptical about that claim, but Dustin keeps protesting that he and Dart have an image understanding, which is interrupted when Darts suddenly starts stirring and screeching inside the Ghostbusters trap, which shakes violently in response.

Meanwhile, outside the AV room, Max is getting frustrated over the boy's continued refusal to let her in. She takes out a set
of Will's vision.

While
lockpicks from her and starts using them on the door. Inside the room, Mike crabs the microphone to use as a weapon. Dustin begs him not to hurt Dart, and Mike quickly promises that he will only do so if Dart attacks them. Lucas orders Dustin to just open up the trap already, which he reluctantly does. Dart falls sideways out of the trap, revealing that he has grown quite a bit bigger since last time, much to the boys' shock. Dart then screeches loudly as he sprouts a pair of hind legs, and Mike moves to clobber the creature, but Dustin jumps between them allowing Dart to drop down from the table. Just then, Max succeeds in picking the door open, and Dart immediately runs past her as she stares in utter disbelief at him. Mike frantically takes up the pursuit of Dart, saying they need to find the creature as quickly as possible.

At the Wheelers' house, Jonathan and Nancy comes home, much to Karen's surprise. She tells Jonathan that it has been a while since he last visited and that it is nice to see him again, and she notices that Nancy has brought something at the Radio Shack. Jonathan and Nancy quickly excuses themselves, claiming they need to study for a test tomorrow. In Nancy's room, Jonathan, with some trepidation, asks Nancy if she sure about what they are about to do, to which Nancy answers that she isn't, before she picks up the phone and makes a call to Barbara's mom. With some hesitation, Nancy apologetically tells Mrs. Holland that she hasn't been entirely honest with her about Barbara's disappearance, but she can't tell her what she wants to say over the phone, asking her instead meet her in person at Forrest Hill Park tomorrow morning and to not tell anyone she called. Meanwhile, the phone is picked up at listening post at the energy lab. As Nancy hangs up, she looks at Jonathan with a worried expression.

Back at Eugene's pumpkin patch, Dr. Owens and his science team is out in force, taking samples of the soil and the plants. Owens admits to Hopper that the whole thing does indeed seem rather strange, but he still doesn't want to jump to any conclusions before he has the test results back in a day or two, asking Hopper to just keep the general area clear of people in the meantime. Hopper asks Owens just what kind of cover story he is supposed to tell, but Owens merely answers that is confident he will figure something out. Hopper gets a call from Powell, who is out with Callahan interviewing the mother from earlier about the incident with Eleven, saying that they have received a strange report about a girl that sounds like the one Murray Bauman has been talking about recently. An extremely alarmed Hopper tells them to stay right where they are, quickly jumping into his car and driving out.

Eleven reaches the school and recognizes Mike's bike; she grabs onto the handlebars, apparently trying to locate him psychically. Meanwhile, inside the school, Mike and the others are searching the hallways and class rooms for Dart, coordinating their effort trough their walkie-talkies. Dustin passes by Mr. Clarke who is on his way home, and the two exchanges a quick salute, while elsewhere, Lucas decides to play action hero and kicks in a door, only to startle a teacher inside the room.

Mike enters the gym and hears something moving through the door to the boy's locker room; aiming himself with a mop, he searches the room only to be surprised by Max. Mike demands to know what she is doing here, and she answers that she also
searching for Dart, Dart. Unfortunately, Eleven just then walks up to the doors to the gym, and sees Mike and Max through the door windows. Max realizes that it sounds rather familiar, and runs out the gym to see if there is anyone there, but the hallway appears empty.

Joyce calls the school, asking to speak to Mr. Clarke, as Will mentioned he had AV class with him today. The secretary, however, tells her that Mr. Clarke just left. Joyce promptly hangs up the phone and jumps into her car, driving off in a hurry.

Back at the school,
Will finds the creature Dart in one of the school bathrooms. He has another episode where cautiously watches the creature, as he calls in its location to the others over the walkie-talkie. He then quietly tells Dart that he is not going to hurt him, but the creature screeches at him in response, causing him to panic and run out in the hallway. The lights in the hall start flickering, and Will is once again in the Upside Down facing Down. He notices some tendrils of thick black smoke starts rolling down the shadow creature. Taking hallway in his direction, and he makes a run for it as the smoke chases him, herding him towards the exit to the school courtyard.

Dustin is the first arrive at the bathroom, and he finds Dart who trustfully jumps up into his hands. He then quickly hides the creature under his hat before the others show up, and claims not to have seen him when they do, telling that maybe Will has taken him with him. Mike then asks if anyone knows where Will actually is.

Will as runs across the dark courtyard, he starts to remember
Bob's advice to stand about standing up to his fears, fears. So Will confronts stop up and turns around to see the the shadow monster, monster over him. Like Bob advised him to, he shouts at the monster to go away as it advances on him, but unmoved by his yells, it continues towards him. With increasing desperation and tears in his eyes, Will starts screaming at it as it places one of it tentacles over him. Being enveloped in smoke, Will stands utterly paralyzed in fear as the creature forces a tentacle several tendrils down his throat.

** When Dart escapes from the AV Club room, the ''Film/{{Gremlins}}'' theme song starts to play.
** Dustin names the Pollywog [[TheThreeMusketeers d'Artagnan]] after his favorite candy bar, 3 Musketeers. D'Artagnan is likely Dustin's favorite musketeer because he, like Dustin, is the "fourth musketeer" (Dustin is implied to have moved to Hawkins long after Mike, Lucas, and Will became friends).
** Dustin's turtle is named [[Creator/DrSeuss Yertle]].

Nancy points that Will at least came back, but Jonathan says that Will hasn't really been the same since then, and he is unsure how to deal with it, having a strange feeling that things can never go quite back to the way they used to be. Nancy asks him if that doesn't make him angry, pointing out that the people who ruined their lives as well the lives of their friends and family got off pretty much scot-free. Jonathan assures that the people behind what happened are dead, but when Nancy asks if he really believes that, he doesn't answer. Nancy is then distracted by a walkman playing loudly and gets an idea. She asks Jonathan about Bob, remembering that he works at the local [=RadioShack=]. Jonathan asks her if she is planning something, but Nancy just asks if he is willing to skip the rest of the school with her.

Walking through the forest, Eleven passes by a mother playing with her child on a swing set. Moved by the sight, Eleven flashes back to Hopper reading aloud for her from ''Literature/AnneOfGreenGables''. When Hopper gets to a passage about Anne describing being an orphan and losing her mother, Eleven asks her about her own mother. Hopper gives her sad look and explains in an apologetic tone that she is "gone". In response Eleven softly cries as Hopper resumes the story. Eleven is then brought back to the present, as the mother tries talking to her, asking her if her parents are around. Eleven doesn't answer her, instead asking her for instructions for how to get to the school. The mother gives her some directions before, worried, asking her again about her parents' whereabouts. Eleven distracts her by using her powers to make the swing move and pulls off a StealthHiBye when she isn't looking.

Eleven leaves the cabin to look for Mike, ending up at the school. She see Mike and Max together and thinks they are flirting.

Hopper reports his findings about the dying plants to Dr. Owens, who at first jokes about the aesthetic quality of the psychedelic pattern on the map Hopper has drawn up, and asks Hopper what it has to do with the lab. Hopper accuses him of treating the matter too lightly and reminds him that all signs clearly points towards the lab to be at the center of whatever is happening. Owens assures him that they are burning away the portal to the Upside Down with regular intervals and believes that the whole thing is contained and that possible leak is unlikely, prompting a frustrated Hopper to demand that Owens and his science team at least take a look at the infected areas to make sure it is not the case. Owens is nonplussed at Hopper giving ''him'' orders, but Hopper reminds him that their deal is that he has the police force making sure that the work at the lab remains secret and Owens keeps what is happening at the lab out of the town; he already has done his part and he insist Owens must do his.

Joyce meanwhile goes home to investigate Will's video recording from Halloween night. When she cannot figure out how to get the tape to play, she calls Bob for instructions; Bob is bemused by her struggling with the technical aspects of getting the tape to work, and tries explaining in it LaymansTerms the best he can. After following Bob's instructions and getting the set-up to work, Joyce, fully occupied by finding out what is on the tape, hangs up on Bob before he can ask her what her plans is for tonight, and starts watching it. When she gets the part where Will starts calling out for Mike, she notices that the outline of ''something'' has burned itself into a frame on the tape. Grabbing pen and paper, she sketches the outline, and immediately realizes that the figure is the same as on Will's drawings.

She see Mike and Max together and thinks they are flirting.

In the present, Eleven is still angry with Hopper for breaking his promise from the night before, and sulks in her room, but Hopper manages to lure her out with promises of Eggos for breakfast. Over breakfast, Hopper, seeing the TV inside Eleven's room, asks her if she paid a mental visit to Mike last night, which she confirms, telling him that Mike said that he needs her. Apologetic, Hopper says that he is aware that she misses him, and promises her that she will able to be with him again soon, referring to making progress with Owens and his team. Frustrated, Eleven tells that "friends don't lie" and reminds him that she has heard the word "soon" many times before. Hopper said it would "soon" on Day 21, and on Day 205, and now he is saying it again today, which is Day 326. Hopper, disturbed that she is counting the days like that, ask her if she feels like a prisoner. Eleven doesn't answer and demands that he tells her when "soon" is. When Hopper can only with vague promises of "when its not dangerous anymore", she grows increasingly angry and finally uses her powers to push the contents of the breakfast all over his lap and uniform. Hopper is upset by this, but Eleven just repeats that "friends don't lie" and storms into her room in a huff, slamming and lock the door after her.

As Bob drives Will to school, he asks if it was him who was walking about the house late last night, and Will answers it probably was. Bob asks him if he had another nightmare, but Will tries to deny this. Bob then relates to him the story of "Mr. Baldo", a clown that scared the living daylights out of him back when he was a child during a visit to an amusement park. Bob tells how he had terrible nightmares about being hunted by Mr. Baldo for several months after the incident. But eventually he mustered up his courage and instead of running from Mr. Baldo in his dreams, he instead stood his ground against him and then the nightmares stopped. Bob advises Will to do the same if he wants to conquer his own nightmares, and Will, greatly encouraged, takes his advice to heart.

Alone in the cabin, Eleven is about to go into the void again, but decides against it. Instead she walks up to the front door and stares at it, and remembers when Hopper first took her here. Hopper apologizes for the dusty state of the cabin, explaining how it was his grandfather's and nowadays he most uses it for storage (quietly and quickly packing away a box with his daughter's name on it as he explains this), but now it is to be Eleven's new home. Over the next weeks, Hopper and Eleven fixes up the cabin together, while he teachers her Morse code and how to set up and maintain tripwire traps around the cabin's perimeter. He also establishes her some ground rules, which he calls the "Don't Be Stupid Rules", namely: always keep the curtains drawn, don't walk outside, only open the door on Hopper's secret knock, and finally, ''never'' go outside alone, especially not in daylight. Back in the present, Eleven proceeds to break all the rules and walks outside into the sunlight.

When Nancy is still confused, Steve tells her about the stuff she told him in her drunken state, including how she thought their relationship is "bullshit" and that she doesn't love him any more. Nancy defends herself by saying that she was drunk and didn't mean it, prompting Steve to demand that she tells him right here and now that she loves him. Nancy is about argue something, but she interrupted by one of Steve's teammates who wants him to come back to the game. Steve then leaves, telling Nancy "I think ''you''[='=]re bullshit."
