* HospitalVisitHesitation: Stan is reluctant to head into the hospital to see a dying Kenny, fearful of the state he'll be in. Thanks to Chef, he eventually gets the courage to go in... only to find that he was too late and Kenny had already passed on. To twist the knife further, Kenny's final words were asking where Stan was.

Added DiffLines:

* DramaticIrony: Kenny also dies in nearly every episode prior to this, yet it is suddenly being treated dead (no pun intended) serious here. Also, unlike his other deaths, where he usually comes back in time for the following episode, this death lasts for the next 17 episodes.

* InternalDeconstruction: This episode serves as such in regards to Kenny's deaths. Normally, Kenny gets killed in a very over-the-top fashion, with his friends reacting with mild shock at best and utter apathy at worst, and he returns the next day no worse for the wear. This time, however, Kenny dies from a realistic circumstance, his friends (including [[TokenEvilTeammate Cartman]]) are completely devastated by it, and his death ''sticks'' up until the season 6 finale.

* UnexpectedlyDarkEpisode: While the comedy is still there in some instances, this is the first episode where the tone is mostly dead serious. While Kenny's deaths were always PlayedForLaughs in previous episodes, this death is played ''completely straight'' and Kenny gets KilledOffForReal, at least until the end of season 6.

Normally, Kenny gets killed in a very over-the-top fashion, with his friends reacting with mild shock at best and utter apathy at worst. This time, however, Kenny dies from a realistic circumstance and his friends (including [[TokenEvilTeammate Cartman]]) are absolutely devastated by it. When Kenny dies, Stan doesn't react with his usual apathy or shock, but with absolute ''despair'', especially since he missed being there for him in his final moments. Also, while Kenny usually returns the next day no worse for the wear, this time his death ''sticks'', at least until the season 6 finale.
