With the formation of the Neo Diamond Cutters after the ''[[Recap/SonicTheHedgehogIDWUrbanWarfareArc Urban Warfare]]'' arc, Tangle and Whisper have been busy training together and going on missions, and the beetle laments how she might have been forgotten now that their jobs are so different. Deciding the Restoration leader needs a break, Sonic, Tangle, Whisper, and Jewel take the day day off and spend it at the beach. * HuddlePower: When Team Sonic find themselves behind a few points in the Beach Volleyball game, Sonic brings everyone together to give them a pep talk... about chilling on the beach. Sonic manages to get Jewel's spirits up again, after she had been internalizing how she felt she wasn't contributing much to the game and competition.

This includes the Rogues' sand sculpture being one of him, while the Beach Volleyball game has her teammates taking advantage of his attitude and trying to make him feel left out when he doesn't get to hit the ball.

While on a trip to Restoration HQ to pick up a part for Tails, Sonic finds Jewel overworked and feeling underappreciated, what with Tangle and Whisper busy doing Diamond Cutters training and all. Afterwards, Sonic promptly pulls the three aside for an "important mission": a relaxing day at the beach! Although things start out fine, the group find that they aren't the only ones sharing the beach, as the Babylon Rogues are here too (for surfing, naturally). Both sides find that the other ruins their vibes, so Wave proposes a fair way to determine who gets to stay: a tournament! Will Sonic and co. come out on top? Will the Rogues get to surf in peace? And most importantly, can Jewel push past her own insecurities and enjoy her day off in spite of it all?
This issue is one of four "Endless Summer"-branded one-shots published by IDW on August 30, 2023, with the other three being issues taking place in the worlds of IDW's comic series for ''WesternAnimation/TeenageMutantNinjaTurtles1987'', ''WesternAnimation/DungeonsAndDragons1983'', and [[Franchise/MyLittlePonyGeneration5 Generation 5]] of ''[[ComicBook/MyLittlePony2022 My Little Pony]]''.
!!''Endless Summer'' contains examples of:
* BeachEpisode: The plot in a nutshell. Sonic takes Tangle, Whisper, and Jewel to the beach for a well-deserved day off, only to wind up competing with the Babylon Rogues at various beach activities to determine who gets to use the beach.
* BreatherEpisode: Much like the simultaneously-running ''[[Recap/SonicTheHedgehogIDWMisadventuresArc Misadventures]]'' arc, things are ''substantially'' calmer compared to the drama-heavy sagas that preceded it. The only "conflicts" here involve Jewel getting to enjoy some time off with her friends (and getting over her own personal issues) and whether or not Sonic and friends can come out on top over the Babylon Rogues (and even then, it's not an actual fight and [[spoiler:both sides agree to share the beach in the end anyway]]).
* TheBusCameBack: Wave and Storm finally return, having last appeared at the end of the Metal Virus Saga in ''[[Recap/SonicTheHedgehogIDWOutOfTheBlueArc Out of the Blue]]''.
* TheCameo: Lanolin and Mimic (disguised as Duo) appear during one of Jewel's flashback panels at the volleyball match.
* ContinuityNod:
** Jewel brings up Tangle and Whisper's missions and training exercises with the Diamond Cutters, which we witness in one plotline of the ''[[Recap/SonicTheHedgehogIDWMisadventuresArc Misadventures]]'' arc, with an editor's note specifically calling out issues 63 and 64.
** Sonic's pep talk with Jewel has him mention that he's saved the world 900 times, a nod to the ''[[Recap/SonicTheHedgehogIDW900thAdventure Sonic's 900th Adventure]]'' one-shot, which was still forthcoming when ''Endless Summer'' was published.

* {{Crossover}}: ...''Kind of''. Four of IDW's comic series each got an "Endless Summer" one-shot, with each series getting a connecting VariantCover that, when you combine all four, depicts the protagonists of each series on the beach together. One consistent element among all four covers is actually Sonic himself, who's depicted running on the cover for his one-shot, with his dust trail appearing on the other three covers and at least one character reacting to Sonic suddenly speeding by. This technically means Sonic, Jewel, Tangle, and Whisper encountered the heroes of ''WesternAnimation/TeenageMutantNinjaTurtles1987'', ''WesternAnimation/DungeonsAndDragons1983'', and ''[[ComicBook/MyLittlePony2022 My Little Pony]]'', even if only in a for-fun, non-canon capacity.
* MythologyGag:
** Sonic's beach attire consists of a pair of white sunglasses with blue-tinted shades, fittingly taken from the post-credits "FIN" image for his story in ''VideoGame/SonicAdventure'', which also depicts Sonic relaxing at the beach.
** The other VariantCover for the issue depicts gumball eye ice cream bars of our heroes' heads, all modeled after (and in Sonic's case, based ''directly'' on) the infamous, iconic, decades-old Sonic the Hedgehog ice cream bar by Blue Bunny.

** When discussing the Babylon Rogues, Tangle brings up the time they accidentally kidnapped Jewel (from the [[Recap/SonicTheHedgehogIDWAnnual2019 2019 annual]]), Whisper brings up when she "kidnapped" Jet's calzone (from the [[Recap/SonicTheHedgehogIDWAnnual2019 2022 annual]]), and Jewel mentions that they did help save the world (towards the end of the Metal Virus Saga, in ''[[Recap/SonicTheHedgehogIDWAllOrNothingArc All or Nothing]]'').
* MythologyGag:
