Downplayed; Mordecai and Rigby end up signing Benson's rules at the end because no matter how weird or arbitrary they may seem, living without any rules is not any better. However, they are able to play things into their favor by getting rid of the "no video games" rule, which Benson can't remember because he had written and added so many other rules and Mordecai and Rigby act dumb by pretending not to remember.
*BatterUp
BatterUp: While struggling to find a place to sleep, Mordecai and Rigby rest on a bench, only to nearly get beaten up with a bat wielded by a big, tattooed guy named Günther.
*BothSidesHaveAPoint:
BigNo: The No Rules Guy yells this when the "no video games" page ripped out from Benson's rule book lands on his lap, [[PuffOfLogic causing him to explode]].
*BrickJoke:
BorrowedCatchphrase: After Mordecai and Rigby leave the No Rules World, the No Rules Guy grumbles to himself "hmmph, hmmph" as he proceeds to play video games by himself.
*CallBack:
BothSidesHaveAPoint: The "Rules vs. No Rules" argument. The rules that inconvenience Mordecai and Rigby are there for good reasons; people can't have two guys sleeping outside their businesses and even some of Benson's odd rules make some sense since he's had bad experiences with prank calls, Unicorns, and people playing punchies and rock-paper-scissors. However, Mordecai and Rigby are right that the new rules are mostly targeted at them, such as no food on the table in the living room and no video games. And while the No Rules Place is an awesome place to live, it attracts obnoxious people who can't be stopped because there aren't any set laws. At least until Mordecai learns that there's no rules against rules...
*CarFu:
BrickJoke: Mordecai and Rigby decide not live the house anymore because of Benson's additions to the rule book, such as no video games. [[StatusQuoIsGod They come back at the end]], agreeing to Benson's new rules, ''except'' the no video games one, which they ripped out and left in the No Rules World.

* CallBack: Some of Benson's new rules refer back to previous episodes:
** The "no punchies" rule was possibly made in response to Rigby's rampage in "[[Recap/RegularShowS01Ep04DeathPunchies Death Punchies]]", which left the park wrecked and several people injured.
** The ban on rock-paper-scissors (or quartz-parchment-shears) was because of Mordecai and Rigby summoning a inter-dimensional monster because they kept tying 100 times in a row during their rock-paper-scissors battle in "First Day"

Mordecai and Rigby are given an updated version of the house rules by Benson, only to find that many of the new rules target and inconvenience them in some fashion (they can't put their feet up on the coffee table, put food on it, and they can't play video games anymore). When they argue with Benson over the rules, Benson tells them that if they don't sign off on the new rules, they can't live in the house, so the duo decide to move out, vowing to live without any rules. However, just because they want to live without any rules, doesn't mean that it'll stop others from enforcing their rules upon them and later find out that living without any rules sucks when people take advantage of the anarchy.
