While One Small Step does have less tension and conflict than BTB 7, these movies still have the same fun, lighthearted tone as usual

* LighterAndSofter: This special, being the second TVMovie, is much tamer compared to "Back to Bortron 7", the first one. While "Back to Bortron 7" was very dark in some places and even had some adult jokes, "One Small Step" has no peril except for when Jet and Sunspot go missing and when the kids crash land into Little Dipper Lake and nearly drown, but both of these are made softer when it was revealed that Jet and Sunspot were just building a mini-golf course, and when Mitchell saves the kids with his rowboat, respectively. Plus, all the jokes are clean for kids.

* ImStandingRightHere: The kids have a brief 'moon monster' scare, and when it turns out to be fake, Sean says that it would be scary to find an actual alien lifeform and Sydney says it would be weird-looking. This is all said in [[AlienAmongUs Jet]]'s presence.

Jet and the gang have a fun night planned with a sleepover in Jet's backyard, mini-golf, and star-gazing-after all, it's the 50th anniversary of the Apollo 11 moon landing! When Jet reveals that he's built a brand new super saucer that can take all the kids (and Sunspot) to the Moon, they HAVE to test it out. After a rough landing, the kids realize that a part of the saucer is broken. With Celery and Carrot's permission, they decide to have their sleepover on the Moon, but after falling asleep they notice Jet and Sunspot have disappeared! Sydney stays behind to work on the saucer while Sean and Mindy venture out to find their friends.
----
* AmbiguousSituation: Towards the end of the special, the kids land their saucer in Little Dipper Lake, where Mitchell is rowing a boat. When the kids are rescued by Mitchell, Jet explains that they built a super saucer and went to the moon. Later, Mitchell is invited to the kids' slumber party, where everyone, including Mitchell, sings about how hard it is to get back to Earth from space. It's really made unclear if Mitchell knows that the Propulsions are aliens or not.
* BigDamnHeroes:
** Sydney and Jet 2 get their moment when they fix the super saucer together, allowing the gang to head back home.
** Mitchell also gets his moment when he saves the kids from drowning in the lake.
* CrazyPrepared: A RunningGag involves Sunspot conveniently packing a lot of items the kids need and pulling them out whenever they needed. He packed food, Mindy's teddy bear, a moon rover, a parachute, and more.
* {{Fanboy}}: Even though Sean was already established to be a huge Neil Armstrong fanatic, he truly shows his fanaticism here. The special can best be described as Sean gushing over the Apollo 11 mission for 60 minutes.
* {{Foreshadowing}}:
** During the song "Super Saucer", the kids sing about how it's easy going to space, but hard getting back. Later, the gang has trouble getting back to Earth from the moon because Sydney used the landing gear crank to fix the saucer. The gang ends up using a parachute and crashing into Little Dipper Lake, where they almost drown but Mitchell rescues them.
** At one point, Jet 2 presents Sydney with a mysterious object that Sydney thinks is a robot arm. She asks Jet 2 if they will need it in the future, and he says no, so Sydney uses it to fix the saucer. It turns out that the "robot arm" was the landing gear for the saucer. Without the landing gear, the landing will be difficult. So, the kids end up using a parachute and crashing into Little Dipper Lake back on Earth instead.
* FreeRangeChildren: Jet, Sean, and Mindy share one when Mindy and Sean find him.
* HiddenDepths: Sydney's knack for engineering and mechanics, first implied in "Sydney 2", are greatly shown here, as she was able to fix the super saucer.
* IWillFindYou: Sean and Mindy become worried when Jet and Sunspot go missing. At one point, Mindy even thinks that a "moon monster" got them. So, Sean and Mindy make it their mission to go and locate them. Along the way, they learn about the Apollo 11 mission. When they finally find Jet, they share a GroupHug.
* KissingTheGround: Sean kisses the ground towards the end of the movie, then spits out sand.
* LetsSplitUpGang: When Jet and Sunspot go missing, the gang splits up: Sean and Mindy go to look for Jet and Sunspot, and Sydney and Jet 2 stay behind to fix the saucer.
* LighterAndSofter: This special, being the second TVMovie, is much more tame compared to "Back to Bortron 7", the first one.
* MiniGolfEpisode: Mini-golf is a major plot point in the movie. Mindy is very eager to play mini-golf at the sleepover. The reason that Jet and Sunspot went missing is because they were building a mini-golf course on the moon. The kids then play mini-golf there. Towards the end of the movie, Mitchell and Mindy play mini-golf together.
* TheMovie: The second TVMovie after "Back to Bortron 7". Jet builds a super saucer and takes the kids to the Moon for a slumber party celebrating the Apollo 11 mission. However, the saucer has a rough landing, and Jet and Sunspot go missing. Sydney and Jet 2 stay behind to work on the saucer, and Sean and Mindy look for Jet and Sunspot, while Sean teaches Mindy all about the Apollo 11 mission.
* MsFixit: Sydney was able to fix the super saucer with general ease, with the help of Jet 2, of course.
* SlumberParty: The main one is Sean and Mindy looking for Jet and Sunspot after the latter two went missing, and the other one is Sydney and Jet 2 fixing the super saucer. There's also a tiny subplot involving Mitchell doing his spying as usual.
* TimeForPlanB: When the gang is heading back to Earth, Sydney reveals that she used the landing gear to fix the saucer. Jet says that it's time for Plan B, and Plan B involves manually deploying the landing gear himself.
* WaterIsDry: When the kids land in the lake, they don't seem to be wet at all.
* WrenchWench: Sydney is shown to be an expert mechanic, fixing the super saucer with ease.
